  1. What do you mean by "does not stick"
  2. Hi Guys, I'm pre-patched for now. Woody reports out-of-band kb4483187 IE update causes crashes on Newer systems. Anyone have spotted any IE misbehaviour on XP after applying recent patches? https://www.askwoody.com/2018/reported-crash-with-the-new-out-of-band-ie-fix-on-win7-kb-4483187/
  3. Don't you, or one of your homemates, use anti-tracking software, that SPAM's Google with dummy requests? I had similar problem when I used trackmenot! browser extension.
  4. It makes me wonder why someone uncovered topic from February and makes it another "My beloved system is the best!" argument. There are plenty of dedicated topics, where all the points you are making were already said...
  5. Alternatively, leave your XP machine looking for updates for 24 to 72 hours, depending on your internet and 1st CPU core speed.
  6. Horovitz is always good. Like the man. Good guy tinfoil hatter, and writes in interesting way. Much more fluent than mine
  7. So called "Avast! MP#3player" thanks to its UI
  8. Firefox 45 ESR by roytam1?: https://rtfreesoft.blogspot.com/
  9. As jaclaz already said, DD https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dd_(Unix) If you are not Linux savvy, or in general not experienced with command line, I guess jaclaz would recommend you DMDE free. https://dmde.com/download.html (as he did reccomend this for me 2 years ago). If you really need something with a simple UI, you might check out if any of the popular backup software companies, like Macrium, Acronis or Aomei, has a free of charge software that can create an exact image, or other ways, clone the disk, and then mount it or browse it some way. DO NOT look for simple tools to back-up and mount drives, as they usually are designed for fully-functioning disk and Windows installations. Your search might include companies that were closed or quit the market, because any "disk cloning software for Windows 7" should work now the way it was at a release date, I suppose.
  10. I updated today certs and windows and Office. All went smoothly via Windows update. I have only TLS1.2 enabled in internet options. Fun fact - recently I changed my monitor for XP machine, from damaged 17" ACER to used 19" Dell bought for a bargain price. Dell also can serve as a US hub. What surprised me is that Windows update actually found drivers for that and provided as optional hardware update. Drivers are dated back to 2006, which means they ain't throwing old stuff away from their servers yet :)
  11. Avast recognized recent Basilisk.exe from Roytam1 as malware by heuristic engine. I reported that to Avast as false positive.
  12. Up to my experience, rather not. Most "Facebook apps" you can find for the system will be just a web wrappers, simply an IE11 limited to displaying Facebook page.
  13. @kitaro1 Did you try polish language pack for BasiliskXP? Does it work smoothly?
  14. Wrong topic, please read and ask any questions when in doubt
  15. Thanks for fulfilling my curiosity
  16. Actually not by the company that sells 'Security', as the paper itself looks professional, but by the clickbait-driven Mass Media that refer to it, all of them linked the first post.
  17. Thanks for giving an answer proposal, but we both know I wasn't asking you The difference is that you posted some uses of such adapters, while Original Poster didn't... well, actually he asked for them, which makes your cases differ at a crucial point
  18. I'd start from asking, why have you bought such a device, without knowing what it can be used for? A hobbyist, collector of mysterious converters and adapters, or you just felt sad for 'em cables laying around useless and lonely?
  19. Soon seeing live again: https://tidesfromnebulaofficial.bandcamp.com/track/tragedy-of-joseph-merrick-2 If you are wondering how it sounds and looks live, our beloved govs decided to sponsor a site that posts footages of polish bands. See and listen: https://ninateka.pl/film/tides-from-nebula-made-in-polska But actually, all that I've been to sounded better than this one
  20. Don't forget Basilisk for XP, also by Roytam1 ->author of NewMoon
  21. Askwoody.com reported windows 7 update had issues when not installing Servicing Stack Update from 2016. It was optional back then, now It's mandatory. also, Microsoft took down and re-uploaded KB4462923 security Rollup, because there were some bugs in it. https://www.askwoody.com/2018/win7-monthly-rollup-kb-4462923-updated-and-rolled-out-again/ What I'd try, is to use System Restore Point and roll back to the point form before October 2018 patches were applied on your machine. After that, re-run Windows update, it should find updates automatically. I hope it should. If you don't have a restore point that Old, try to uninstall November 2018 and October 2018 patches and try to update your system again. Obviously, do a full backup before playing with Windows Update. use any program available and they should work... Even the one embedded into Windows 7 should do it's job ------------------------- +1 There are three groups of people: Those who do a backup, those that does not, and those that are about to learn they are doing their backups badly. Hopefully, when the need came, I found myself in group #1, which makes me a bit proud.
  22. It's like in Pokemon - become a champion and dare others to challenge you! So no, this is a recurring event
  23. Don't be so shy, you can find a lot of people calling themselves "IT Proffesionals" who can't do a thing with any hex editor Hope you'll have a good time in here
  24. Do I Win now?:
  25. Probably got lost in database error, sometimes called as "MSFN Board memory hole".
