Neither recognizes the GPT format. GPT Partition scanning code would have to be added. It would be easier to replicate the GPT Partitions into an MBR replacing the dummy bridge MBR normally used in GPT Drives. and GPT based partitions require 64bit operating systems! they won't work on 32bit OSes speaking about the 2TB hard drive limit, FAT32 and NTFS can support up to 2TB volumes and no greater than that

Or you can download older versions of Firefox from either OldApps.com or FileHippo.com

I concur with Benoitren as win95a and orig. win95 is slow and problematic (and has no usb support and no DMA option for hard drives & CD/DVD drives for faster performance). I know from experience with an old NEC computer that bundled a pre-osr2 version of win95. Anyways, there is a way to install Win95B (osr2.0 or osr2.1) or Win95C (osr2.5) without installing the embedded IE files [link to the instructions to install Win95 OSR2 without IE]. I've tried it a few times on an old machine and Win95 SR2 worked great.

uh frogman, Mozilla dropped support for FF 3.0 in March 2010 after FF 3.0.19 was released. and Mozilla plans to end support for FF 3.5 after FF 3.5.19 was released. also, Firefox 5.0 beta 1 will be available on Mozilla's Beta channel coming May 17 and the final release of FF5 is scheduled to be released on June 21. you may want to stick with the FF 3.6 series as there will be an upcoming FF 3.6.18 release once FF 5 goes final.

dencorso is right on when advising to install NUSB. This Sony Microvault 4Gb USB Flash Drive my mom bought a few years ago worked flawlessly under win98se with the NUSB drivers installed.

speaking of Spybot S&D, version 2.0 beta has just been released today. http://www.safer-networking.org/en/news/2011-05-11.html can you guys check to see if Spybot S&D 2.0 beta works under Win98/ME? I know its help file still mentions Win9x/ME.

have you tried uninstalling/removing shockwave player 10 before installing shockwave player 11? read my latest post in this shockwave player thread. and make sure the GDI+ DLL file (gdiplus.dll file) is installed under win98se. I think Shockwave Player 11 requires GDI+.

[SOLVED] KB981957 (MS10-073) may cause XP BSOD 0xC000021a
erpdude8 replied to dencorso's topic in Windows XP
just wondering, guys, does this problem happen only under AMD Athlon CPUs and not Intel processors? I'm not getting any BSODs on my XP/Vista machines with the latest win32k.sys files installed. perhaps all my computers are using Intel CPUs. -
uh, not if you can "slipstream" them. I've also done "repair" installations of XP with integrated/slipstreamed SPs/updates on a few XP computers and I had no huge problems with them. sure some personal settings may get resetted but it's no big deal.

not only that, using 1024x768 screen resolution on a 15' monitor at 60hz can sometimes cause headaches along with eye strains, actual physical headaches which I have to take some Tylenol to relieve them. my eyes hurt sometimes when using 1024x768 resolution at 60hz, seeing the monitor flicker like that. I'll eventually replace this old hp pavilion mx50 15 inch monitor and get a bigger one where I can use the 1024x768 resolution at least a 70hz refresh rate. many web sites today require a mininum of a 1024x768 resolution for them to work correctly.

not much you can do but you can try mentioning the problem in the Dell Community forums for laptops: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/default.aspx
-
perhaps the PD552 USB speaker dongle drivers don't allow you to control the volume with Windows Vista, which is why you have to adjust the volume on the actual speakers themselves rather than using the software volume controls in Vista. check the PD552 manual (if Comodow supplied one either on paper or on the CD) and see where or how to adjust the volume controls.

only problem is, it only enables "partial" Aero support on Vista basic. I know from actual experience since I do have a Dell Inspiron laptop with pre-installed Vista Home basic edition. Important quote from the WinVistaClub page: sure, you'll get some Aero support on Vista basic with those tips/hacks, except for the Aero "Glass" feature.

yeah I guess, but without those essential menu bar and menu options. personally I prefer using sumatrapdf 1.x w/ kernelex and with the menu options on an old 98se machine. using sumatrapdf under 98se with no menu bar & no menu bar options looks so awkward.

Flash Player 10.2.153.1 has been released several days ago. frogman, go to the following sites to test the correct versions of Adobe Players: Adobe Shockwave Player http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/ Adobe Flash Player http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
-
The 10.2r23 version number should be for Adobe Shockwave Player only, not for Adobe Flash Player. Latest version of Flash Player currently available is 10.2.153.1. I think there's some confusion here. Flash Player and Shockwave Player are two different things. The Adobe Shockwave Player 11 files should be installed into the \Windows\System\Adobe\Shockwave 11\ folder. If you truly have Adobe Shockwave 10, those files should be installed into the \Windows\System\Macromedia\Shockwave 10\ folder. As for Adobe Flash Player, those files are placed in the \Windows\System\Macromedia\Flash\ folder. check these folders carefully, frogman, and see if you have the correct files. Also, make sure you have removed/uninstalled Shockwave 10 first before installing Shockwave 11. Installing Shockwave 11 ontop of Shockwave 10 can cause version number confusion, which is why you're probably seeing different versions of Shockwave Player when visiting the Shockwave Player test page. The Shockwave Player plugin file for Firefox should be called np32dsw.dll. Look for this file and check its version number. For Flash Player, look for either flash.ocx, flash10.ocx for IE browsers OR npswf32.dll for non-IE browsers and check their version numbers. BTW - to test the Adobe Flash Player plugin (not Adobe Shockwave Player), go to the following page: http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ AND be sure to have the GDI+ DLL file (gdiplus.dll) installed under win98se as Shockwave Player 11 needs GDI+ to work correctly.

but then again, who's gonna actuallly implement a so-called "FAT40" file system into a win9x system? not a simple thing to do.

i realize that this is a very old thread but one of the files included in wmi9x.exe that's important to me is the smbdpmi.exe file. SMBDPMI.EXE is the SMBIOS DOS driver as posted in the description in the SMBDPMI.PIF file, also bundled in wmi9x.exe. In Win95/98 after running WMI9X.EXE and installing the WBEM 1.5 files, run the SMBDPMI.PIF file to make smbdpmi.exe create the smbios.dat & smbios.eps files. Those two files contain info about the computer/motherboard brand & model and the kind of BIOS it uses. I found out that the DirectX Diagnostic tool (dxdiag.exe) from at least DirectX8 gets the "System Manufacturer", "System Model" and BIOS information from the smbios.dat file and attempts to identify the kind of computer you are using.

Opera has formally dropped support for Win98/ME starting with Opera 11. The setup program for Opera 11 will NOT run under normal Win98/ME OSes telling you that it requires Win2000 or later. Even running the Opera 11 setup program on 98/ME systems with KernelEx installed (any recent version of KernelEx) fails bigtime. Attempted to run in WinXP SP2 compatibility mode, setup program extracts files but silently quits and doesn't display an installation dialog box; no Opera files get installed (aw, bummer). Attempted Opera 11 setup program to run in Win2000 compatibility mode, install dialog box is displayed but installation fails with error message "Failed to obtain write access to installation folder. Error code: 6" after clicking on the Agree & Install button. Sorry folks.

hey guys. The final release of Opera 11 is out: http://www.opera.com/browser/download/?os=windows&ver=11.00&local=y one good reason why I have disabled Opera's ability to save login passwords. maybe this is fixed in version 11.

Windows 98SE and Newer K-Meleon Browser v1.6 preBeta
erpdude8 replied to Monroe's topic in Windows 9x/ME
though official K-meleon 1.6 beta was released on November 14, duffy98. test this first beta and see if it works on your win98se computer. -
ah, so you are still skeptical. that's alright. jaclaz, how do you respond to this? States literally, in p. 9: that kind of information of checking between the "export" version and the 128bit version of the secur32.dll file from that PDF file is not entirely accurate, dencorso. Note to PROBLEMCHYLD: Dsclient does not include nor support WinME as mentioned in MS KB article 276472.
-
not necessarily, wsxedcrfv. at least WildBill has posted an unofficial Win2k KB2286198 SHELL32.DLL LNK (MS10-046) patch here: at least Win2000 users aren't totally in the dark.

reinstalling 98 on a triple boot (98/2K/XP) system
erpdude8 replied to the xt guy's topic in Windows 9x/ME
when it comes to re-creating a new copy of bootsect.dos, try this TweakHomePC page: http://thpc.info/dual/bootsectdos.html major bigtime help with that page when dual-booting w2k/xp with w98/me
