  1. jaclaz has a good point, dencorso. during dsclient9x installation, instsec.dll gets renamed to secur32.dll when dsclient setup detects certain DLL files that have 128bit encryption something I (and many other 9x users) wasn't fully aware about instsec.dll (when renamed to secur32.dll) is 83,456 bytes in size [according to the DSClient (v5.0.2920.5) KB323455 hotfix package that I have] KB323455 hotfix still exists but MS KB article 323455 doesn't exist anymore
  2. yup. both old and new versions of the dsclient w9x package have that instsec.dll file which would then get renamed to secur32.dll during setup. so indeed as Joe said a 128bit secur32.dll file does exist. it's just that Microsoft hid it so well and changed the name of that file. clever guy MS...
  3. The WinME version of SECUR32.DLL is v4.90.3000 dated 6/8/2000 AND is 56bit. I know because I have an actual WinME system. File description of ME's secur32.dll file says "Microsoft Win32 Security Services (Export Version)" the sch128c.dll file is just a renamed schannel.dll file, Jake. that one has 128bit encryption.
  4. But what about MS10-074, WildBill? Can't you at least make an attempt to make an unofficial MS10-074 MFC patch for Win2000? Otherwise, I will find someone else who can since it's so easy to make one and it only involves just the updated MFC*.DLL files from the XP version of MS10-074. You can do MS10-083 later on. Priority should be MS10-074, I think; and many applications depend on those MFC*.DLL files.
  5. that's because the 128-bit versions of IE 5.01 SP, IE 5.5 and IE 6.0 install 128-bit versions of the RSAENH.DLL & SCHANNEL.DLL files and NOT the 128-bit version of the SECUR32.DLL file. Installing/upgrading to the 128bit encryption edition of IE does not upgrade the SECUR32.DLL file to 128-bit version. I don't think there is a secur32.dll file for Win9x that has 128-bit encryption. It's more likely that it's a myth to me. The stuff from Microsoft KB article 239869 is somewhat convoluted and not entirely accurate. If a 128-bit version of secur32.dll does exist, it's probably for NT-based OSes only. if dsclient for win9x doesn't install the correct version of the secur32.dll file, you may want to read the following Annoyances.org thread: http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/win2003/t1128901046
  6. are you sure? the June 2010 DirectX redist package seems to also work under Win2000, even though the download info page does not mention Win2k. I've recently tested the June 2010 DX pack under Win2000 and its setup program works.
  7. excellent. I've recently removed Vektor's shell32 fix and have applied Wildbill's win2k shell32 V3 patch. so far, no problems with the V3 shell32 fix.
  8. understandable error, duffy98. it happens sometimes. hopefully the creators of K-meleon 1.6 should be able to release Beta 1 soon, at least before the year 2010 ends. good thing I can run latest KM 1.6 pre-beta on a 98se or ME OS w/ latest KernelEx installed, though I have to set the k-meleon.exe file on KernelEx's Compatibility tab to run in either Win2000 or WinXP SP2 compatibility mode for the KM 1.6 EXE program to work properly.
  9. unfortunately, recent versions of Sun Java JRE (1.6.10 and greater) require at least Windows Installer 3.1 and that version of MSI doesn't work under Win98/ME. I know this from experience. Tried to install JRE 1.6.22 recently under Win98/ME & latest KernelEx; doesn't work.

    Netbeui

WARNING: If you have installed the 301453/329128 (ndis.vxd, pppmac.vxd & vip.386) hotfix for Win98 and have the NetBEUI protocol installed, the next time you start up your Win98 computer, it will lock up for good. MDGx and I are aware of this "conflict" between Win98's NetBEUI protocol and the 301453/329128 patch for Win98. Quote from MDGx's Software Essentials page in the Windows 98 "Multicast Packets..." Patch section:
  11. uh hello duffy98. K-meleon 1.6 has NOT yet reached its first beta yet. official and latest KM 1.6 download I see here is alpha 4. and where's the link to download the so-called KM 1.6 beta? heck, it's not even a beta.
  12. this is also true for avast! server edition, O&O Defrag server edition and AVG Antivirus File Server edition. the client or workstation edition of these apps may not install nor run under server versions of Windows.
  13. Hey Windows 7 users. I want your thoughts on the following page that compares the Windows 7 menus with the Windows XP menus: http://www.askwoody.com/2010/winxp-menus-versus-win7-menus-cartoon-for-askwoody-by-sethness/ agree or disagree with what was presented there
  14. ok. take your time WildBill. you may want to create an unofficial Win2000 MS10-074 Mfc40.dll/Mfc40u.dll/Mfc42.dll/Mfc42u.dll patch since that one is relatively easier to do. Just use the updated MFC*.DLL files from the XP (2387149) patch.
  15. hi WildBill. how about making an unofficial Win2000 MS10-071 Cumulative IE patch? MS10-071 replaces MS10-053. also, can you make a Win2000 Wordpad MS10-083 patch as well?
  16. sorry WildBill, dead link to your V2 patch (now produces error message "invalid or deleted file" at mediafire site). please post it on another download site. in the meantime, I'll use Vektor's patch instead.
  17. All 32bit OSes except Win95. See MS Reader's System Requirements from the Downloads page: http://www.microsoft.com/reader/downloads/pc.aspx System requirements of MS Reader do not mention Win95. are you absolutely sure, NoNameNeeded? Can you install MS Reader on your Win95 computer and see if Cleartype works on it? confirm what kind of Win95 machine you use here.
  18. and NT4 had lack of TRUE plug & play support (don't tell me about the plug & play service in NT; I already know about that and it's lame compared to the plug & play features of Win2k & higher), which means more difficult times to resolve resource conflicts and setting/configuring devices in NT4. Also, NT4 lacked a built-in defrag tool; Microsoft corrected that big mistake with Win2000 and higher by including a defrag program. I had been forced to convert my aunt's Win2k computer to WinXP earlier this year in order to use IE7. The company she works for requires minimum of IE7 to access its web site. But the computer my next door neighbor has will remain having Win2000.
  19. what about newest KDW and Safari 5.0x, blackwingcat? also, is there any chance of implementing XP's "Cleartype" feature into Win2000? A bunch of Win2k users were wondering how to get Cleartype into Win2000 and so far nobody has the solution. Cleartype has been added (unofficially) into the Revolutions Pack 9.x for Windows 98 & ME. where is that unofficial Win2000 LNK patch, WildBill? I cant find it.
  20. I know this is an old topic but sometimes I wish Tihiy found a way to revise his old Win2000 Revolutions Pack and add Cleartype support into it, just like he did with recent versions of the Revolutions Pack 9.x for Win98/ME. RP9 for W98/ME has support for Cleartype and it does work. Otherwise, I don't see anybody else attempting to put cleartype into win2k.
  21. Do NOT try this with old Intel graphics chipsets (such as Intel 810/815). These old and crappy Intel video cards DO NOT SUPPORT 32bit COLOR. Some of my old computers use these lame Intel graphics chipsets and can't handle 32bit color icons and 32bit color schemes! Only Intel 830m, 845g and higher graphics chipsets can properly handle 32bit color. Note: If your computer uses either Intel 82810 or Intel 82815 graphics chips, you'll need to install a video card that can handle 32bit color.
  22. it would be nice if Xeno86 would add Seamonkey support into KernelEx 4.5. After I installed KernelEx 4.5 RC4 onto my WinME system, the Seamonkey 2.0.8 browser suite setup program didn't continue saying it needed Win2000 or better. I had to right-click on the "SeaMonkey Setup 2.0.8.exe" file, choose Properties and on the Compatibility tab, I had to set it to run in XP SP2 compatibility mode and save changes. Ran the SM 2.08 setup program again and installation continued as expected. But when I launched its seamonkey.exe file, the program was missing most of its icons and menu bar labels in the Seamonkey 2.08 browser window. However, when I had to manually set the seamonkey.exe file to run in either Win2000 or XP SP2 compatibility mode, Seamonkey now works perfectly with all the icons and menu bar labels displayed. Please add (or even set) either Win2000 compatibility or WinXP SP2 compatibility automatically into the seamonkey.exe file and its executable setup program in KernelEx so I don't have to set them manually.
  23. the web site that was supposed to host the Daedalus project is dead (or perhaps has moved to another site I dont know about). link to the page now shows a blank page. main site shows "database error" message.
  24. looks like so far, nobody has been able to make an exfat driver for win9x/me, not even a read-only driver. tough luck on that one. however, there is a possible DOS driver that may read exfat formatted volumes. check it out here: http://www.bttr-software.de/forum/mix_entry.php?id=7861
  25. try installing the latest RC version of KernelEx 4.5 and see if the shutdown problems are fixed there.
