  1. OP needs to install (or upgrade to) a higher edition of Win2000 such as Windows 2000 advanced server, which does support 4 cores (though up to 8 CPUs or 8 cores) unlike the Pro edition blackwingcat is using Win2000 advanced server edition on one of his computers as I noticed on his web site Only server editions of Win2k will handle at least a quad-core CPU; Win2k Pro is only good enough for 2 CPUs or 2-core CPUs https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_2000 server = 4 CPUs w/ up to 4Gb of RAM advanced server = 8 CPUs w/ up to 8Gb of RAM datacenter server = 32 CPUs w/ up to 32Gb of RAM
  2. should be working with at least build 107 of MBAE on XP now
  3. Palemoon 28 officially released a few days ago. yup, official PM 28 does not support Vista - oh well https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=19988 https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=19937 https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=19524&start=20 {reaction} --- wait for it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QRZMISgDJ0
  4. be more specific. what kind of wired intel card? use Speccy (and look in the Network section) to determine the network adapter model.
  5. I kinda hate having to change ownership & permission of files/folders back and forth so another alternative is to integrate/slipstream the KB4284880, KB4103720 or higher cumulative update onto installation media as discussed in this MDL forum thread. Slipstreaming those updates and performing an "offline" install of Win10 home/pro x64 on my PC with the KB4132216 & higher CUs already integrated seems to work around the problem. I may consider installing a "higher" edition of Win10 v1607 like education or LTSB, overwriting my Win10 v1607 pro OS.
  6. which is simply performing an "offline" installation of Windows 10 and not setting up an internet connection during setup
  7. it "updates" MCE. my old friend's Gateway/eMachines T5048 media center PC comes with XP MCE 2005 w/ SP2 and updates fine after installing SP3. I just don't slipstream it.
  8. you i5 3xxx CPU is of Ivy Bridge generation (3rd gen). My family's Dell Inspiron 620 uses an Intel i5 2500 CPU (a little older than yours) & Win7 with the newest Meltdown/Spectre updates installed. Dell is planning to release a new microcode bios update for that model but no timetable as to when that will actually happen. perhaps you should try doing the tests on older gen of Intel CPUs like Sandy Bridge (2nd gen) or even Clarkdale (1st gen) to really notice a significant difference. the older the CPU the bigger the impact. yes you are using Intel based processors, but what kinds or what generations (or series) of Intel CPUs were you testing them on?
  9. how did you replace the wcp.dll file(s), halohalo? I think that file is stored somewhere in a subfolder inside the WinSXS folder.
  10. be careful halohalo. June 2018 updates KB4284880 & KB4284833 (and later CUs) include the windows10upgrade.exe file stored in the \Windows\UpdateAssistantV2\ folder and may run at anytime and unexpectedly upgrade your v1607 home system to newer release w/out any user intervention when KB4023814, KB4023057 & KB4056254 updates are installed. do not be caught unaware of this "sneaky" trick by Microsoft block/hide the KB4023814, KB4023057 and KB4056254 updates using wushowhide.diagcab or WUMT (Windows Update Minitool) also delete the windows10upgrade.exe file or the entire UpdateAssistantV2 folder from the Windows folder after installing either KB4284880 or KB4284833 update
  11. vista support in palemoon is limited as admitted by the creator maybe palemoon v28 may drop vista support
  12. The KB4019276 update has been superseded / replaced by KB4056564 security update for Server 2008 (download here) so KB4019276 is no longer needed
  13. new CU for v1607 - KB4284833. only KB4133216 is safe to install under Education, Enterprise & LTSB 2016 versions of Win10 v1607.
  14. also, no specific Meltdown & Spectre patches will be made for POSReady 2009 XP as noted in MS KB article 4073757 (on FAQ question - My operating system (OS) is not listed. When can I expect a fix to be released?)
  15. unless microsoft finds a new security flaw in silverlight, there are no new versions of it. I'll uninstall it on any existing PC that I have.
  16. fyi for Jody T, the Meltdown/Spectre patches for Win8 Embedded Standard and Server 2012 R0 (the "server" version of Win8.0) started in March 2018 with KB4088877 and KB4088880. I have only noticed a minor slowdown on my father's Toshiba Satellite C55Dt-A laptop using AMD A6-5200 quad core APU with the Win8.1 June 2018 KB4284815 rollup update installed.
  17. I'm afraid you will have to uninstall KB4132216 (the hard way) and install previous SSU - KB4093137, halohalo. However, on my Win10 v1607 Pro system, I have KB4093137 SSU installed and newer updates like KB4103720 & KB4103723 complete 100% successfully. Use wushowhide.diagcab to hide KB4132216 and newer servicing stack updates.
  18. right, wyxchari. You don't need to worry about this until Jan. 2020. You can also view the contents of the MSU files for Win7 using 7zip, which I do almost frequently. I've also checked the new updates for Windows 8 Embedded Standard Edition and they have the similar "ApplicabilityInfo" for all editions of Win8.0, including the non-supported "Client" versions.
  19. sadly the ASUS A7V8X-LA Kelut on the old Compaq computer died a few months ago. So I no longer have any "single core" CPUs left to use, except maybe an old hyperthreaded Intel Pentium 4 prescott (524) 3.06Ghz processor but that will require a different motherboard which I did find a few years ago and have installed a different board & the Intel P4 onto the Compaq computer. Edit 6/21: And it looks like new Win7 updates in 2018 will not be compatible with CPUs without SSE2 support (aka. Intel Pentium 3s, AMD Athlon XPs, VIA C3s) as Microsoft will not even attempt to make them compatible with non-SSE2 processors. Article on Computerworld about Microsoft "quietly" cutting off Win7 support for older Intel CPUs.
  20. wow Markokk888. you did not mention the KB3172614 update in any of your posts, which permanently fixes the Windows Update Client problem under Windows 8.1 (MS support KB article 3163023). Fix was first included in KB3161606 and later included in KB3172614. manually download and install the KB3172614 update from the MS Update Catalog site (need either KB3021910 or KB3173424 servicing stack update installed first) and reboot. after Win8.1 reloads, run Windows Update.
  21. read this (updated June 2018) https://www.computerworld.com/article/3199373/windows-pcs/windows-by-the-numbers-sanity-returns-as-windows-7-sheds-user-share.html
  22. use an old PS2 style (non-USB) keyboard as the GA-Z97P-D3 board allows it
  23. Microsoft removed a bunch of MUM files needed to install on Home/Pro editions of Win10 v1507 starting with KB4025338 and later cumulative updates and only install under Win10 v1507 LTSB 2015, which I use on one of my old PCs. LTSB rules and never gets any feature updates 🙂
  24. Dalai is no longer maintaining it for Vista. the guide from the MS answers forum for Vista is great - I was actually missing the KB3205638 user32.dll security update on my Vista machine even though I already had KB4012583 and other updates installed. after installing that user32.dll KB3205638 fix along with having the latest gdi32.dll/gdiplus.dll & win32k.sys fixes installed, I did a WU scan and it took nearly 30 minutes to show available updates [almost 200 of them] for Vista instead of taking several hours. KB4048970 is replaced by KB4056944 (Jan. 2018) and KB4015380 (atmfd.dll) is superseded by KB4056941.
  25. that's bad. a bent pin means a hardware problem and you need to take your mac pro laptop to a professional computer repair shop to have it fixed.
