[RELEASE] Boooggy's WMP 11 direct integration solution
erpdude8 replied to boooggy's topic in Application Add-Ons
the links to obtain KB970159 on there have expired kinda recently. therefore the KB970159 downloads no longer exist. darn -
it's a rollup specifically for Win2000's COM/OLE components. KB922667 is a must have for anyone using Win2000 in today's computing world. MDGx has a copy of it on his web site. Edit reason: Updated the list wow. I know at least one of the XP hotfixes can't be normally obtained by usual email/phone methods. that one would be 977073 as that one requires a paid custom support agreement with Microsoft. there was some talk about how to obtain 977073 here in thehotfixshare forums but it's very hard to get it.

excellent, dencorso; just like the versions blackwingcat and I have. i'll try out ricktendo64's revised WU installer packages for both x86 and x64 versions of Windows XP later tonight (and yes, I'll test out the x86 version of his installer on a Win2000 computer). I give ricktendo64's WU installer packages a letter grade of "A" while I give mcrip's WU installers a letter grade of "C-" because they don't work on XP/2003 computers and only under Vista/2008/Seven.

I just visited the Windows Update site on XP just now 6/21 and it installed brand new WUA ActiveX controls, which seem to be WUA 7.6.7600.256. blackwingcat had just mentioned in his recent blog here: http://blog.livedoor.jp/blackwingcat/archives/1682805.html he has wuweb.dll version 7.6.7600.257 dated 6/4/2012. newer than the one ricktendo64 packaged in his unofficial packages. but all the other WUA files are version 7.6.7600.256. I now have version 7.6.7600.257 of the muweb.dll and wuweb.dll files installed on my XP computer. ah see, my waiting and patience has finally paid off.

I don't see that in any of the CABS? From KB2720211? Also, how did you get the "self-extract" portion of the Package (hex-out the front-end?)?@-X- (and anyone else...) Attached is my "work in progress". Feel free! you should read the following threads: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-windows_update/why-doesnt-my-windows-update-agent-update-to/283f4edf-aab6-4348-907d-984a1661e2a7?auth=1 http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_update/is-the-windows-update-agent-listed-to-be-updated/2c15f15b-15ae-495f-be21-834b37f2d827?auth=1 yes, it may be rolled out via WSUS Servers BUT not everyone's getting it at the same time. that avoids the WU servers being overloaded. the KEY WORDS are "OVER TIME" if WUA 7.6.7600.256 isn't offered to me yet, than I can wait for it. some people will get it, others won't. Until Microsoft themselves update ALL their WU servers with the latest WUA, I don't need to rush in for the latest WUA update.
-
either that or MS hasn't made WUA version 7.6.7600.256 available through Windows Update yet, especially in my area. guess we'll have to wait. I can wait patiently for an MS standalone WUA 7.6.7600.256 download rather than use third party WUA 256 installers. nope Glenn9999. WUA build 256 hasn't come through on my Vista and Seven computers either.

Future versions of Firefox on Windows 2000
erpdude8 replied to ppgrainbow's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
yeah right. I don't see any VC++ 2010 SP1 downloads there...or here. and I'm not sure if blackwingcat made the unofficial KB2565063 (MS11-025) MSVC++ 2010 SP1 security patch and/or the unofficial KB2565057 (MS11-025) MS Visual Studio 2010 SP1 security patch. The KB2565063 & KB2565057 patches were revised 8/9/2011 to fix the problems found in their respective patches which were originally released 4/12/2011. so far, he didn't make those for win2000, yet. not happening at all, ppgrainbow. Seamonkey 2.10 is version 2.10.0 and not going to be renamed to 3.0. Seamonkey 2.10.0 beta 1 was released about a week ago. and the next versions of Seamonkey will be 2.11 & 2.12 as noted on the MozillaWiki Releases page. -
Why Windows Vista (SP1+) is Better Than Windows 7
erpdude8 replied to UltimateSilence's topic in Windows Vista
only for Vista SP2. if you're using Vista RTM or SP1, DirectX11 can't be installed on those versions. IMHO, Vista was barely a PR nightmare in early 2007. a couple of SPs for Vista afterwards, seemed to have ironed out some of its serious problems. I still use Vista but with SP2 on my mom's Dell Inspiron 640m laptop and it runs fine. maybe adding anohter 1Gb RAM stick to her laptop (to make it 2gb) will boost the performance since it came with 1gb of ram installed -
not exactly. if the "repair" installation uses Vista RTM files, you'll have to install SP1 first and then install SP2. Vista SP2 requires SP1 installed first and refuses to install on Vista RTM.

only for a brief time Q282901 was available in english language but they've revoked it a long time ago due to unforeseen problems. Microsoft is NOT always correct in which languages they provide certain hotfixes when they mention them in certain KB articles. they have not always been consistent in that, LoneCrusader. no, he did not have it in english. Petr didn't specficially state which language he has those updated files, so I'm not convinced that he has all those files in english language. if he did had the files from Q282901 in english, he would have told me & sent them to me a long time ago and I would have included them in the SP already - all which never did happen.

yes the OSR2 SP project is still alive but except very infrequent or few updates to it. I may plan to release an updated service pack near the end of 2012 when I find time. when I do provide a new version of the SP, it will not be mentioned here in this topic. it will have a separate thread. Version 4.00.1114 of configmg.vxd file is available in Japanese language only and is NOT available in English language as I was told by MS. I don't remember exactly where I found build 1113 of the configmg.vxd file but I must have found it in an update package for certain old IBM laptop machines with pre-installed Win95 OSR2.x.

@PROBLEMCHYLD: You should remove this patch from your list because Microsoft discovered some flaws with the mfc42.dll & mfc42u.dll files from the KB2506212 security update mentioned in MS KB article 2584577. You may want to create an unofficial KB2584577 patch for Win2000 when you get the chance.
-
PROBLEMCHYLD: Do NOT include the WINDOWS2000-KB2506212-X86-ENU.EXE in your list anymore. The KB2506212 security patches contained flawed MFC42.DLL & MFC42U.DLL files. Microsoft has made the KB2854577 hotfixes to correct some problems with the KB2506212 (MS11-024) security updates. 2584577 - FIX: An application that uses objects that are derived from the CArchive class may crash after you install security update 2506212 You may want to consider creating an unofficial KB2584577 patch for Win2000.

Future versions of Firefox on Windows 2000
erpdude8 replied to ppgrainbow's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
The change will effect all Mozilla-based apps, including Firefox, SeaMonkey and Thunderbird. Plus, developers are in the process of removing the now dead-support code for Windows 2000 from Gecko since MSVC 2010 is incompatible with Win2k. more specifically, Thunderbird 13 and Seamonkey 2.10.x will start using MSVC 2010 code, which will officially drop win2k & pre-XPSP2 support. -
@blackwingcat, how to run Realplayer SP (12), 14 or 15 under Win2000 using KDW / FCWIN2K (if possible)?

Win98 FE SP1 was the only official SP released by Microsoft around mid-1999, a few weeks before Win98 SE (4.10.2222) was released to the public. The Win98fe SP1 file was called wucsp.exe but it's no longer available from Microsoft anymore. and yes, I'm still in charge of making unofficial SPs for Win98fe and Win95 OSR2.x (and maybe for WinME later on). I do plan to release updated versions of these unofficial SPs sometime between early summer and late fall of 2012. a longtime friend of mine used to have a custom-made computer with pre-installed Win98fe (4.10.1998) with a BCM KR632 motherboard, Intel Pentium 2 (333Mhz) processor and 192Mb of RAM back in the late 1990s and it was good. though several years ago, he's using a WinXP machine using an AMD Sempron 2500+ CPU and 768Mb of RAM. I may set up my next door neighbor's Dell Optiplex gx100 computer as a dual-boot system booting Win2000 SP4 and Win98 FE and later SE. I had some experience setting up dual-boot systems and they're pretty good.

Windows Installer 4.5 seems to be a prerequisite for recently made programs out there. you may also want to install the Windows Installer 4.5 KB981669 update to fix some application compatibility problems with MSI 4.5.

office 2007 slipstream problem
erpdude8 replied to ata4you's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
here are updated instructions on how to slipstream Office 2007 with the newly released Office 2007 SP3 update: http://www.howto-outlook.com/otherprograms/slipstreamo2k7sp.htm -
blackwingcat, read the following on Mozilla ending Firefox support for Win2000 & WinXP RTM/SP1: http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/asa/archives/2012/01/end_of_firefox_win2k.html the upcoming Firefox 12 release will be the last one to officially support Win2k. Firefox 13 nightly builds and greater are created from MS Visual Studio 2010 and will require WinXP SP2/SP3 or higher to use. even with the latest version of KDW used under Win2k, the current FF 13 nightly builds may not work on Win2000.

build 1113 never existed, not even through a win95 hotfix. Benoitren will have to retrieve v4.00.1111 of the msgsrv32.exe file on the dutch osr2.5 cd that's sometimes the problem when devices have to share IRQs, whether using either a win9x/me or win2k/xp system. I'd try removing the network card driver in device manager, shut down the computer and remove & re-insert the network card in a different PCI expansion slot (which means unscrewing the computer cover after disconnecting all the cords connected to the computer). Placing the network card in another pci expansion slot may allow win95c or the bios to re-detect the network card and assign a different IRQ that won't be shared with USB. USB devices work best when the USB controller doesn't have to share IRQ resources with other devices.

I had a similar experience with using Crystal CS4299 WDM drivers on a 98se/ME system. Certain versions of it (v6.13.10.4140 and earlier) seem to support 98se/ME/2000/XP. anything higher than that one (like 6.13.10.4141 or greater) would only work under W2k/XP and not under 98se/ME.

and Firefox 3.6 will soon be EOL'ed after Mozilla plans to release FF 3.6.19 later on as I read on the Google Groups site. And with Firefox 5.0 final being released a few days ago, FF 4.0.1 may suffer the same fate as FF versions 3.5 & 3.6.

although Anolis Resourcer requires MS .NET Framework 2.0 or greater for it to work.
