ALL affort are worth it...
2. linux is open source: - and has many good distributions: some example: [*]Fedorra Directory Server (based on Redhat): a good Network server (like MS Directory Services) [*]Complete Webserver (CWS) A verre good Out of the Box Webserver installation [*]Zenwalk linux Small Lighweight Desktop linux, with just 1 aplication for every task its enought to get the job done. also there is Open Solaris, and windows 3.11 for workgroups
3. *skipping the 'Peace on earth' bullcrapp (because we wont get that anyway) And since im not into politics: > Angela merkel, (pri minister of Germany) > George W Bush (pres of the US) > Jan Peter Balkenende (pri minister of the Netherlands) to all get brains (at last), is also not realy an option, So i guess im in for the 'white xmass' thingy, and the saving of a few square miles of rainforrest. *sighs*
4. I voted 7zip. 256 dictionairy size. max for 7zip but my single core Atlohn 1100 - with just over 300 SDram: dies on it. Use it with an athlon 64FX (HTT bit enabled), and 1gb ram and it will kick the hell out of winzip or winrar, Strong point: It uses litle memory to extract, Realy high compression, Open Source (and free as well), Weak points: Compression takes about twice as mutch (resources) as others. Its Interface looks like sh*t. It doesn't auto-register itselfe with archives, It still hasn't got the Self-extracting archive things right (to get working commands after extraction) - you nead a weird work-around to make those...
5. I know im not your avarage Windows Guru, Im probebly not even in the Top 500 most frequent posters, Im nowhere near the user who helps the most people, But I am a user who likes to help others (if i can), but scrolling the board in search if people to help, i have came accoss about 10 unique posts about, how to get past Genuine check, windows Activation, (or whatever other kind of s***), So here I am, spending about 1 or 2 hours a day on this forum, waisting my time on reading a post about illigal stuf, that i dont want to help people with. Even though its in the posting rules and forum rules lots of those jack-asses, just dont read those, and i've had it, I realy think that such a user rating would help me to not attend the problems of people who dont read or follow the forum rulles, (it would certainly give me some extra time for users who DO deserve the help) any thoughts??? Note to any user who thinks im a hypocrit... I do run windows on 2 computers, XPpro on a desktop, and 2k server on an old AMD K6 500mhz The xp pro is only partly legal, (its an OEM-licence for my laptop but running on desktop instead), The 2k server - is running non-productional use (but for education only) but ligaly im not a student anymore at this moment, but still am using it to studdy for a MSP (im going to attend next year). on my laptop im running linux with Free versions of OSS only... on both my windows machines there is no 3rd party sofware w/o licence,
6. do you have fisical access to the machine??? if so there is a cd for these kinds of problems wich is call EBCD (emergency boot CD) it has a tool to blank any windows password, that means you can NOT retrieve it, but only set it to a blank log in (just hitting the enterkey) Don't forget to set a new password as soon as you are logged in (hitting <ctrl> + <alt> + <del>). Even though i have done this so many times myself, I dont recommend it anybody, (unless there is no other option) (It Could Cause Unrecoverable Damage to your Operating System) CAUTION: This Method ONLY works with local computer accounts, This does NOT work for Active Directory Users.
7. strange, - because Firefox 1.5 has nothing to do with Removing of any windows components, and so Gmail should just work. for IE i could emagine even though i wouldn't know why... did you use nlite - if so you should add your last_session.ini
8. Mircrosoft has patched 2 leaks today, both patches aply to windows 2000, and should be included in the v5.1 release.... Internet Explorer 6: Critical: Remote Code Execution Windows 2000: High Risk: Elevation of Privilege Both are exploitble, and IE-fix even marked as Critical.... Please update before release...
9. the only way id concider helping somewone with whas to fix incompatebilitiy issues. (the reason i wouldn't even start testing on disintergrating SP2 - is because 1 it isn't safe (and i dont want to get to be 'the one who never told us about the risks on this matter') 2 i think its a wast of time, because, its virtualy un-doable (as far as i know) 3 its just way easier to fix the bugs he has with sp2 - than to fix those hell get after disintergrating it).
10. folders??? i tried and it didn't work - strange - also tried "mplayerc.exe /add d:\music\* " and it didn't load any of the files forom the music folder or any of its subfolders.... pretty anoying... unicode build 6.4.8.4 - anyone with same probs????? // the - add folder (and its subfolder) of BSplayer (also included in the klite mega pack - seamned perfect, but i find it to be less stable than MplayerC.

even though i thought of it before and also posted about it a few months back, i realy dont know of anyone who is capapble and willing to - do such kind of work, - i am still looking for a programmer who has the skilles to download the 7z sourcecode and redesigne its shell, but if you know someone, - or are that someone - id love to read about it.

FS drivers These filesystemdrivers are posted here because, they are good filesystems, (not just for linux but now can also be used for windows), Aspecially 'Reiser FS' - (wich for now still in beta), is actualy a better filesystem than NTFS - Even though NTFS supports journaling (the thing that prevents nt from crashing the disk after an unsafe shutdown (like window 98 did)), Reiser is, in most cases, concidered more stable, but also supports larger files, and is, in some cases, thought to be faster than NT. (I posted it because may just wel be a feature that poeple, would want to try) Bootscreen True the bootscreen is all black-n-white, and isn't even what i would call amazing. But im ablsolutely not the tipical 'phoposhop guy' - comment I was just hoping people would respond and post some more goodies, - sharing goodies little tweaks and modyfied files that should never become a part of the uSP but are a 'nice to have' so anyone who can build an (official) 'uSP5 windows-blinds theme', or a nice wallpaper, or whatever they think could be a nice complimenting goody - please post.... lets have some fun here people
13. nead i note its not just one of the first for XP64 - yet also is one of the best scanning engines out there.
14. yes windows 2000 uSP-5 Xtreme Edition. should be concidered 'destop only' (even though we may invite users to start a topic on a server project, I'm thinking maybe we could start thinking of a single hotfix (or SP) for IIS-related patches, to be slipstreamed after usp5.1) yes windows blinds has inproved over the last year or so, but I'm not convinced it should be intergated into the servicepack, but rather as add-on (unattendedly installed as service) it still bloated my system (1.7ghz celeron with 256rm ram) at startup. but this probebly goes for all 3rd party add-one, I'm voting for creating setup-packages and a configuration-file (with the most tools and utills we want to have in uSP 5 Xtreme Edition) and create 2 ways to install, > A fully automated batchfile, > And a Setup-selection tool. and distubete it as a pre-build $oem$ folder.
15. love to get my hands on im realy up for it, going to give full atention to: > Windows 200 Profesional > Windows 2000 Server > Windows 2000 Advanced Server If all goes well, (and I do have some realy good expactations), I'll post about it on this, and probely most of the other websites as well. Anyone who is willing, and has the 'right' skills, is more than welcome to review and test the 5.1 version, If indead its a GO I will advice 'corporate users' to start testion compatibility with thair systems, so it may even become stable enougth for 'corporate use'
16. Yes you can format just 1 disk, even just 1 partion on a disk (for example, the first partion called C:\ ) A filles on the other disk or partion will work as soon as you have rinstalled the right aditional software like Office, Media Player or Acrobat read, (and whatever else you had installed befor). note: You can not mess with the other partions or diskdrives, do not: 'format', 'change size' or 'delete' other than: 'C:\' to reinstall windows // Edit: lol, we actualy posted at the same time
17. webserver-edition ofcourse since it has even fewer, but why would you, it costs triple as mutch as, win XP (witch, if enlite-ed, runs just as good),
18. I realy have no idea about how this would be dnone best, BUT, if i had to build sucht a cdrom, i would do the folowing. A: Create administrative installe point. and update to the laste service pack for office B: Create office auto installer (*.mst files) per component like: word.mst exel.mst access.mst onenote.mst etc. C: Use office shrink proccess to create install sources for all the compoments. your going to use. (but dont 7zip them like proposes in the tutorial). D: Coppy all the install sources to a new folder (either, to the same or to a supfolder) example: [office] --- [word] > word.mst setup.exe word.* --- [exel] > exel.mst setup.exe exel.* or even [office] > word.mst exel.mst setup.exe word.* exel.* etc.Just depends on what you want. E: As a last step just create a front end for your cdrom, either with a HTA (hypertext aplication (OOBE)) but for this id rather recomand Wait note: wait is a project that once came forth from the msfn forums but seams to be abandonware, im not the author, i dont have the source code and cant, n'or will be able to support, or fix buggs for wait. (if it doesn't work dont use it). wait was build by: bryanh
19. quite amuzing to be astunisched it realize gooogle finaly did what it was suposed to be doing al along (auto-deleting trash) by the way if im not mistaking there is a thunderbird gmail-like UI extention, so you can use gmail the way gmail looks without loging in through the website.
20. Answers: 1> Downloading windows Is illigal, and I, n'or anyone else on this board, neither should, n'or will, help you with problems relating to this. 2> Windows Activation, is Microsoft's protection mechanism agains those **** idiots who try to pirate thair software, talking about ways to iliminate it, is against the MSFN forum rules, thus shall i report your post, 3> If you even would have bothered looking at other posts about installing windows, you would have been able to read that, auto-boot from cdrom or dvdrom, is a bios-setting, Yet since you already, made me verry p***ed at you by, insulting all of msfn members by talking about cracking windows, i have absolutly no intention of helping you any further or what so ever.

How about native linux filesystem support (ext 2 / 3 ) and reiserFS (if your not scared for pre-release versions. It works just like any normal windows filesystem drivers, FAT / FAT32 and NTFS (but Installable File System)-drivers. from now on your can share, linux volumens, with win NT/2K/XP for example mount '/home/user1/desktop' as '%userprofile%\desktop' or whate ever you like, - complete control. Link to Ext driver Link to ReiserFS dirver
22. i wouldn't believe my eyes if the would, but than again there is always that obnactious tweaker who ports the MS setup from vista to install windows 2000 on a system (just by editing the inf files and stuff... wow - wouldn't that be great ,
23. Nforce 2, - WILL work on windows MCE and ARE compatible with Dx9 also if im correct its even natively supported with driver.cab on your windows cdrom, if not, use your windows xp drivers.
24. you could disable the windows native cdburning service - wasn't that IMAPI (or somthing ? ) how about looking at google..
25. on every machine, that has spect below 266mhz and 64MB (or less) ram, and harddisk up top 5gb any systems with higher spect will either be running NT4 (if either ram is more than 64, or cpu more than 266mhz) and from, 450 + 128mb ram and at least 6gb harddisk - choice on either windows 2000 or slackware linux. but i realy am confused seeing people, run 9x windows versions on any system with more than 2gh or even 512mb ram, - dont you guys know windows ME is only cabable of efficiently using up to 128 per thread and mutithreaded tasks are NO option for such an OS... i do find it BOLD though
