  1. wrong forum - ask this question in the Nlite forum and add your prefs.ini (or settings.ini - im not sure about the name) to your post.
  2. few questions: From what source did you create ur, bootdisk.. doesn't your bios support cd-boots? have you tried bootdisk.com
  3. this is a board on software & computers, not on ur kinky sexlife but realy no nead to team up cuz. ryan vm's updates already are instableble by nLite, and also you can use nLite to tweak a instal source containing his updates. Same goes for gurgle's sp5. [build 11] but the thing is, if we actualy want to get tweaks and 3rd party software or components from other os's, its probebly a good idea to team up with nLite maybe to come up with a specialized usp5 tool (based on nlite?) and only distributed on the sp5.iso (in the tools folder).
  4. yes the would..... using a link like: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en would enable them to require genuine check. [EDIT] this would btw, require windows XP (or 2003) te be installed on a machine, when creating our win2k sp5 [extreme] cd, to be able to download the required hotfixed, but you could of course also manualy extract the files from your windows cdrom (what ever you chose, In that case, the wizzard should probebly also indicate the files, that you'd have to extract to your c:\hoxfixes folder (instead of the extracted hotfixes (like shown in the example).
  5. Yep - entirely TRUE. Nope, because: Changing (hacking into) MS's files is also considered illigal, As wel as redistributing MS's files without prior written 'concent' (is that actualy the right word?) Another illigal thing is to publicly release 'beta-hotfixes'. and 'non-public hotfixes' And besides the 3 prior reasons, there might be dozens more to think of. So the questiong here, should probebly NOT be, is this ligal (because it already isn't), but rather, how far do we want to go here, and how mutch will MS alow us to stredge thair, EULA? in my opinion it goes about somthing like this. For a while now, MS has introduced a new windows update site with the 'genuime windows check', right??? That means that you should have a valid windows machine at the time of downloading the optional windows xp files. ntdlr and stuf. so lets stick to that part, (not in any way, release xp files), but since for now, USP5 only contains windows 2k files, and it is released on serveral mayor websites, i think it is safe to say, that MS wont mind it to mutch, (or they would have contacted you already), so lets stick to JUST windows 2k files. So how to get the XP files into our USP5-EE? here is 1 option, lets build some sort of batch file, or wizard that completely explains how to get it done. the next wil be an example of what it could look like...
  6. hmmz have to get that one at my work's - dont have a copy @ home lol, (i think)
  7. zip-folders id rather not, (especaily not the ME one, PLEASE), id rather have 7zip pre-configured, and pre-installed, i migh just even be crazy enouth to ask some-one to re-compile to to look (exactly) like expler - the thing is thouh that A: its more stable B: it supports more file-types / extentions C: It is free (and opensourse) D: >>> there are probebly as much as 26 resons why... Borrowing files from other os's To go here ist that mutch of a problem, the thing is, I for one just have a dutch version of windows XP pro, while using my rights to downgrade to windows 2K pro, im also switching language to US-English, so if you would want a xp version, id probebly have to download a US- hotfix containing it. so the moment im doing so, would force me to stredge the eula a real bit (to far??) because im downloading a file thats not ment for MY version of window xp. besides that, id just say, - scew 'm (ive paid loads for 95 / 98SE and XPpro licences)... but if i want these features (wich id probebly do , lets at least, get a good list together of how to get the file if your localized version (dutch in my case) wont suit the job. id have some serious issues if id have to download 300mb just to get 1 or 2 files from the english version of winxp-sp2-enu.exe
  8. il have to try this on my laptop machine tommorrow its runne sp5 [build 11] and i could use a bit of a speed-up LOL
  9. Would this be a nice 'add one' to the extreme edition?? 'd like to try it LOL.
  10. -I-

    USP versions

so whats its value anyway??? - will it JUST improve the icons in 256color-mode? cuz realy (who uses that any ways).
  11. -I-

    USP versions

Cewl.. hope it will check out OKE.
  12. nope, vertual host setting isn't the best way. mode rewrite would be way better (But it would also disable the posebilities for setting subdomains.. have a look at hos mod_rewrite worsk on apache.org
  13. to anyone who might me intrested in running asp.NET on Apache/win32. Go Here> http://httpd.apache.org/cli/introduction
  14. Say again???? - Active Directory where introducte in 'Windows NT' (i just dont realy know, what version probebly NT-4.0 (or even as early as 3.5) but still running any server type of aplication on a dedicated worstation, can be done, and wont make a real diference unless; You are running a dual-core or dual cpu machine, You go go past the 10 simultanious conections Your memorie requirements go past the 1gb of RAM. in those cases, I would start asking myself whether or not to use a windows-server-OS
  15. Yes it is possible to update win2000 to sp4 + rollup pack. but it leave some realy nasty stuff (kernel mode driver's and other) Id realy cecomend instead using GurleMeyers (unofficial service-pack 5) it includes well over 400+ hotfixes and probebly even about a 100 that MS dint release to the public, (it will work on ALL - 'US/English only versions' of windows 2000 profesional and server)
  16. Can be done, BUT requires some (ore even a lot of) files to be hex-edited...
  17. i dont know but do know, its a badly scripted (not even programmed) piece of code, i would not even bother to think about using it. it would involve way to many security-risks, (i guess tech, kinda would be better of asking, for a way to run that specific app on windows 2k SP4, instead of asking how to degrade to sp1). but thats just my 2cents
  18. @cluberti - If i was the jury in a GOOD-Thinking prise for IT-Maganagement I'd certainly nominate your solusion, GOOD thinking -*Thums Up*- @all Running any kind of system migrations in a VM system is nearly always a good idea, things like snapshots and stuf like that alow us to test evry last bit of an operation that could get quite tricky,
  19. Pro's and cons. (from p o v of win2k). Pro: its lighter, and faster, than XP, its more stable than ME 9x, its security features (for files and folders ar equal to xp) and better (more avanced than 9x) it has many security features, its muti-user base (like xp), it requires less diskspace than xp, and les ram-memorie. Con; it has, no intergrated visual styles (even though it make the system faster, its less pleasant to the eye). it has, no sercurity center, or system-level security (like xp sp2 / sp3) it wil not support new features (like IE7 / office 12 / MP 10 and kernel mode drivers) bugs wil not be fixed unless its a security risk, it has less support for /run as $user or compatebility patch. so when should you run win2000 instead of XP, 1> if you have a computer slower than a 1ghz CPU with less than 256mb ram.(pleas i know xp runs on slower system i even got it to run quite fast on a 64mb edo-ram, - but dont bother trying its not that funny). 2> if you dont realy nead all the fancy looking stuf, and the newest software versions from ms-office, or other aplications like, autocad, or paintshop (or those alike). 3> if you dont mind not al of its features are avail from a nice looking stuctured interface, 4> if you want a smaller windows installation that is highly tweakable 5> if you know enouth about software alternatives to replace things like IE7 and office 12 and MediaPlayer 10, 6> if you have a valid windows 2k licence and dont want to spend aditonal money on an xp-licence, 7> if you can think of many other reasons why you shoun't be updating to XP.
  20. What about a colorsheme, - its not Realy like a theme but at leest some thing to make it look a tiny bit better...
  21. i do know whats it about, - its the same blue thing with the default blue background at winlogon (in win2k) - try a search for custom background with winlogon, (is as simple a renaming one file to. *.bmp - modify it and renaming it.... - good luck finding 't (cuz i forgot, WITCH ).... sorry cant help you any further...
  22. or if you can set dosinitated to 'yes' you migh be able to load a dos based low resolution 'generic' sound-driver - but i shure as hell wont garantee anything ... ive never tryed before.
  23. I have sucressfully slipstreamed it on a win2k (profesional) SP2 (us-eng) with but Nlike 1.b4 / 1.b6 / 1.0 R2 - downloaded it from the torrent... and worked like a charm... if you look at the oficial download thread, - you should fine a hash key of the file (to check for errors). Good luck...
  24. have you tried its checksum???? of the downloade file to see if its correct, Also, better tel us what version of Nlite you are using, also you could try using the commandline with the /intergrate option... hoped to be of help.....
  25. @ gurglemeyer... you sayd an 'ALL-IN-One' download right??? so whats upt with that? wil it be an iso-file, that has more than one installer (but nog compiled to an exe. or wil it be a (custom made) installer with options to choce what version youd like. tell me, im quite curious.. @anyone who might know- Is it likely that Nlite will stil be able to remove IE/OE from a USP5.1 CD???
