hmmm just asking, is 't a stage 2 unatenden ghostfile way easier than this? /run PE wint dianostics and support tools, if it doesn't fix it, select a re-install option, formatting the disk and puting the windows2000-Stage2.ghost file on the computer, (or stage 3 if you prefere) now there are 4 stages in a windows setup ... stage 1 (textsetup - ather partitioning and coppying the install source), stage 2 base setup - ather basic setup and $oem$ cmdlines.txt is complete) stage 3 ater driver install and and final reboot, stage 4 ather a complete windows install, software installed and a sysprep is aplied.

Oke here is nice Q: > Does office shrinker also support other MSI(-like) packages, (open office for example) and if not, why, and how mutch would it take to add support for it, i already have been able to work out the MST file to auto setup OOo to leave out components, leaving it out could well save me about, 40 to 50mb please advice
-
true, but it also removes IE5. OE.5 and al lot of other stuff that it superseads, Just like i said, it does NOT add, -- but replace files, to get it done, (juist like windowws with SP4 isn't 136mb lager than windows without it)... also it may (or may not, i dont know), remove any last remaining files from the MSJVM (mircrosoft's java) package...
-
nope it should even be a bit smaller, (because, it doesn't add files but rather replace them), thats why its called slipstreaming...
-
uses the 5.1 release, after that, you only nead 2 updates - a MS-Spyware-removal-tool (run once process), and could update to NET1.1 and 2.0 and dx9c after that you ara just about completely up 2 date
-
will look into both of your posts...

you rigth but like zip support (should just be ripped, and since winzip and winrar (are NOT free or gpl -ware) that just leave 7z as legaly posebility... must of the rest should probebly be intregrated from $OEM$ folder, there is this great utill called wait that doesn't nead VB runtime, i think i also has a default option to add to reg RunonceExec (would be real nice for those who use partial-unattended (for example leve blank pc name / user name / serial nr. ) who could now also select software to install) in that case it could work as a kind of component selection probebly could be a supproject for the EE edition, like the 2k version of driver packs (witch gurgle hopes for)....

yes it could be, BUT, many of the options dicused are (or could be) Operating System Improvement, for example, it could be desides that, the standard archived folder option is outdate and/or to unstable to meet our likings, in that case it would be better and save a lot of space on YOUR system if we'd replace it instead of letting it reside (un-usefully) on your harddrive. for those kinds of options - it is conciderend to intergrate them into the OS rather than as optional (installable components), BUT as soon as the 5.5 (extreme edition will be avail) ill concider making a selfextracting $oem$ folder to use with the uSP5.5 source and where you can select wheter you want to isntall about a dozen of aditional inprovements un-attended or be presented with a list to pick options (at windows setup). That $OEM$ folder will at least contain, TCPIP.sys --> simutainious conection hack SFPC.dll (is that correct???) --> fileprotection disabled dmadmin.exe / dmboot.sys / dmconfig.dll --> enable software raid in windows.2000 profesional (requires: 2+ harddisks for raid 0 and 1 or 3+ for raid 5) ntoskrnl.exe --> modified bootscreen hack and perhaps some other hacked win2k filess sbe.dll / sbeio.dll / wmvcore2.dll (Windows XP SP1) --> required filed to turn windows 2000 into a mediacenter-enabled OS ntdetect.com (from windows xp (or 2k3)) --> fixing slow windows bootup on many systems. and perhaps 1 or 2 other hacked files. NOTE: (meaning of the colors) > Files comming from the original windows 2000 OS, but a hacked, or modyfied for beter performance of adding cosmetics to your system, "hacking windows files is concidered illigal in most countries" > Files taken from other, operating systems, Like windows XP or Server 2003, You should have a valid licence for the newest OS you have taken a file from, and could use downgrade rights for the rest... Hacking an OS is Allways illigal, but if you have a licence for all the files used (windows licence for the OS from wich the files are taken, - And if you do not use it commercialy, MircoSoft may let you off the hook, but do note it is still always at your own risk and should mind that you will in all cases lose support, or anny warrenties...

not just 'an' idea but THE idea. - sorry im not going to try and find his orriginal post about this in the 62pages counting USP5 thread of where it al started . - but yes it is exactly to prevent it from messing up windows update as wouldn't validate your windows and thus not update it.
-
its apreaciated, - (and i think i can speak on behalf of /G as well), Thanks..... your TOP GUN

have you checked correctly because there are (if im not mistaking 2 downloadable versions on softpedia for example - befor you start downloading check twice if your downloading the usp51.zip (hope the name is right, - been a will since i downloaded it) LOL IE6.1 is already included in the usp51.zip download, and it contains dx7 Dx9 and dotNET 1.1 and 2.0 are (if in not mistaking planned for the 'standard edition'-release of the uSP.5 for a compleate release features list... check THIS POST

what exactly is your domainname. if had this problem myself, 1 time and not (completely) understould what it was, that exactly caused my problem (but than again im not authorized to change any networkwide policys, or even have access to them..... but i do know that in some cases Unatanded Add-domain options fail to resolve the DNS records for a domain, but instead of ::: [ for example] using the full domain name: Like: users.mysite.company.lan ( using the old netbui ... name (dosname????) Like: shortname seams to solve many isues... hope this helps anyone...

How can I create a custom W2k SP4+ Updatepack
-I- replied to muchlux's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
what language version of windows ar you using. if your are using the english version, you might want to look at the hotstream project (also here on this forum), if ist a german version (or other non-enlish), it would be posible to build a localized service pack (if you can suply al the update, from a sertain list that is.... ). -
gurgle is right - make a list of the files that get naged and tel us what USP version (5.0) (5.0sr1) or (5.1basic) and also let us know if maby you jused something like Nlite or so... or other tweaks ...
-
im also thinking of rewriting the welcome to windows stuf, that appears on startup with new users... but only if enouth people would like such a thing (or think it could be usefull). it probebly would be containing: > a link to this support forums, > links to other usefull resources (for windows 2000), > some notes about the updated files. and of caurce the - where not liable, and this may brake the MS EULA for your product. etc. etc.
-
Reshack can do that to, - just instead of in the resource-map (icon) or (bitmap) go and replace it in icongroups, - (most win binairies have such a folder... if you replace it there all sizes of a single icon are replaced instantly.
-
have to dis-agrea here, in short = ms Malware removal tool IS NOT a securty patch but a 1 time only self-deleting program, so there is in fact nothing to be slipstreamed - there is 1 possible litle trick you could pull, you could create a dialog (with a windows critical warning, that they should run MS-MRT from the windows update site
-
the blue 98 logo rocks, its way better than the official M$ one
-
havn't seen the - release note yet, - an no reply on a last q either, so lets xmass-party first and do windows later - Merry Xmass.
