  1. @gurglemeyer, you said, that slipstreaming is terrible, oke here i must agrea, but even though it might be slower and compresion might be worse, wouldn't it be an idea to create 2 packages, sp5 (you done that part) and sp5.1_extrame but also, reactive exe files that install a windows component with the /silent parameter, what that does is, anable us to run full cumulative installs from cmdlines.txt (outside of the servicepack.inf files) even though it might take some extra space and install time it also would alow to leave out certain components, (i for one dont look forward to first updating all ie-files and than removing them with Nlite, - cuz im probebly not confident that Nlite wont screw me up with it). Anyone for comments??????
  2. Or not having to download, USP5 2 timen because you dont want IIS update files on youer windows 2k workstation, and dond want media player 9 on your advanced server. (see my point?)
  3. actualy dont know why, but my up-speed stays teribly low, - with U-torent. whats up with that????? Update: went from 0.1kb to (about 4.4Kb now) at this rate im not even going to make use of All my datalimit - btw - there seams not to be any Total Upload limits (just a bandwidth limit).... is there any client that does have a (stop seading after x GB has been served) option??? slippykillsticks - PM me on how you want the file (download method) and How or IF you'll be able to share it with others...
  4. look in the - close thread, - the Rollup pack is actualy in the file excapt for 2 files something about MS releasing a new Driver model support ... Gurglemeyer didn't want to include a new (half in beta) feature witch would probebly not work stable anyways so he left the file out... He also said it was recoment it NOT to install .... BTW: - would it be better - to NOT make diferent release versions, but non-cumulative feature packs instead... and end up with a couple of files that u should intergrate to get a Extreme Edition setup... id gues for > W2KUSP5_Base.exe -------- (basic windows security updates) > W2KUSP5_Runtime.exe ---- (MSI3.1 + DX9 + NETFX1.1 and WSH5) > W2KUSP5_IExpl.exe -------- (IE / OE) > W2KUSP5_Mplay.exe ------- (wmp 9 + win movie maker and all media stuff). > W2KUSP5_Serv.exe ------- (IIS and ALL windows server compontents + updates)
  5. 1: So what you are saying is this, - id love to chat with the people who do this kind of BRILIANT work, 2: But I shure as hell aint going to put in my share. I realy think of it like this... Im still a student, and money isn't something i can spend lightly, Usualy i even get to live the last week of the month without even as mutch as 2cents left in my pocket. > But i DO have my internet conection with a 10GB up/download limit. most of the time though, i only use about 5 or 6 Gigs a month - (that would leave me 4 unspend Gigabytes of lost data). counting at about 5 USdollars per gig would mean Im troughing $20 worth of bandwidth out in the trash. now lets ask any-one of msfn / ryanvm / or the hotstream project, how usefull it would be if just 100 other MSFN-users like me would do the same. actualy we would donate to them, nearly Half a TeraByte of extra download, (without it actualy costing us anyting (or perhaps a few cents extra to the energie bill). I realy think it isn't just a good idea but should be concidered our DUTY ..... But than again, most of the poeple are just TO lame to see this
  6. so why not run it from a free torrent tracker (in stead of running one urself). also - running trackerless (to me) seams not the best idea since there's also no real error-tracking left and getting / finding and Asking for / sources wil be a lot more dificult.
  7. password protected tracker???? - makes it nearly impossible to get and sead the file.. Gimme gimme - im dying for it.
  8. war59312 Get the torrent up, n running n please let some seeders get hold of the file.. so we can start sharin it.. YAY for Gurglemeyer, ITS TIME TO Share. UPDATE going to seed full 9days and 8.5gigabytes in total just recieved note a error caused my isp to screw upt some stuf and they gave me `1month 10gb extra datalimit. -
  9. whaha CEWL so cewl - lots of thnx in advance to the softpedia guys...
  10. Here's a question for gurglemeyer what about Future updates, the thing is, its a 220Mebs download, but also a 220megs upload (for those who share it). Im willing to share the file with 20users a month ( about 4GB of files). So now im asking, is it posible to make it so that IF any changes should be made, to NOT repack the whole fill but just make a small fix for it to insert after the main USP file... bandwidth cost a awfull lot a money, so i guess we all whant it to be wel-spend. Take care and, - if anyone gets the torrent thingy up. let me know...
  11. the thing is, I acualy cant understand that MSFN doesn't already HAVE its own torrent tracker, after all, it IS hosting a couple of great projects, (just an idea though),
  12. those exe file - are just cumulative installers (like ms update thingie) shame though that the /intergrate commands isnt workin. so it would imply you have to just /silent instead and rom from either runonce of some like that... Still it save quite a lot of updates afterwards... dont know if its the best way though, but at leas something while G hassn't compleated his USP 5.1+ pack
  13. Gurglemayer, hase made a perfect ms-update like cab files with all updated versions of DX9 IE6 and Data-Access component - with the latest updates include. (even though they dont support the /slipstram command they might work with the /silent command from unattend.txt (not perfect but realy usefull)>.. if you want them, - PM me your Gmail-addy. and ill mail 'm to ya...
  14. thing is though? - how the F* can we get this any smaller in size :S - because current is just way to high to actually get it spread. (anyone up for a better idea) > maybe, using, some file downloading sites, > as well as sending it with - 22 emails to a gmail account. - > and ofcourse a Torrent tracker would help, (if only i knew how to set a torrent share on my box with a 5GB/month data-limit) id sure like to help spread this.
  15. Do you have such a machine to compress it? my working maince is a single core athlon XP 1400+ with just over 300 megs of SDR pc133 RAM and i dont hav actual -phisical accees to my dual Athlon MP 1800+ 1gig machine, and i realy dont wanna do this with a non-secure vnc conection.... did it once and got hack so f* bad.. im dont ever wanna do it again....
  16. thats a GREAT idea... - why dont we setup a torrent share. my bandwidth limit isn't worth mutch but gladly would help out a couple of people..... the thing is im wondering if HIGHER compression Could be an option... Maybe Some here running a Dual core Athlon and at least 1 GB of RAM would like to try what the results would be to Compress the USP5.exe in 7z utra-compression. (or any other Archiving format that does a better job..
  17. I wouldn't dream of going for vista, as long as there is. A > no Winfs, B> no Full OPEN-GL support, C> no SRP-1 to fix the first 300 security isues. I have to realy say, Ill stick to windows 2000 as long as i can, and probebly migrate to linux as soon as my windows box does no longer sufice... would probbebly be arround the time of the full kernel support to NILFS
  18. Great work... and about the server part, (i absolutely didn't know - WOW - but no i do have to ask... how does a hotfix check whether its a supporterd os or not... does it check for; 'Microsoft Windows Service Pack 4 build 2600' or does it rather pick: "windows nt v5.0 build 2600" and leave the screen name alone. like i said, and especialy in larger networks it would be pleasant to be able to distinquis the regular SP4 computers and the USP 5 computers. or am i wrong here???? / BTW im looking SOOOOO forward to it... and ofcaurse to what (later on) usp 5.1 will have in store for us...
  19. How about, installing: USP5.0b (and add DX.exe, DA.exe, and IC.exe to the cmdlines.txt file (if they support an ua. command), You will probebly, have to install some, aditional hoxfixes afterwards (just dont op rolup-pack - inpite what M$-update says, you already have it). but i still think its the best way to go for now....
  20. Branding it, (with a logo), seems, to be one better way to check if a system is running USP5 (.1) for changing the version nr. one should probebly know where it is defined. - im thinking: build (an optional) branding.exe to do this it should probebly run about in the same manor as - the xpize.ua an other good thing comes from this, (if the version check doesn't get through, WinUpdate also cant f*** up the finetuning of the os, - for wich Gurglemayer has put so mutch work into this, - also BTW this wouldn't comleately screw up updates. it would be always possible to look at the updates, and if they were good, - we just hade to change the - works on build, ..... defenition ... in any case it would alow checking whether the update would even fix somthing instead of braking something down.... Is usp5.1 actualy working on the server versions of Windows 2000??? and further more, how wise is it to, actualy run any server on patches that where / are concidered Beta, (on a production server - for pete's sake). hmmz I guess. - I'd kill you anyways, with or without logo's
  21. WOW LOOK AT THIS. GREAT WORK if you make the feet and beak of the puinguin black. (instead of yellow), and add (in (realy) small print): "based on: MicroSoft windows 2000" I realy would like to ask, what should be done with original versioning nrs. one for instance COULD say, make it identify itself als Windows 2000 USP5 (build: xxxxx) and i ask you, why not, - msn isn't planing on releasing any updates to it anyway, so why even bother keeping windows update happy... I Would tell the poeple, if you are scared about, using Windows 2000 without the 3 or 4 updates. M$ might, release, (and i realy dont believe it will be more than that). > you should either migrate to XP (because MS sure as hell wont be bothered anylonger if 1 or or 2 security risks will accour. > of you should be using a good n stable - antivir / firewall / anty spy solucion. just a though.
  22. Im Looking at it now, and thinkin - co have been way better if i had curled the - win2000 test - to the shape of the circle - and make it look like a cdrom... maybe even remove the monitor picture and making the (cdrom) look bigger, (just an idea)....
  23. hosted by: imageshack just made this in my free-time... but im not good a paintshop so if you would like to have a fullscale model better build one yourself (this is just to give an idea how to show poeple that they are actualy using USP5. of windows 2K). [edit: Maybe some-one who actualy is good with PSP or what ever, like to have a play with lots of windows 2k resources, to make a set of windows 2K USP5.1 logo's and icons to intergrate in the system /]
  24. have installed windows 2000 - NL - SP4 + MSRP-1_NL v2 i realy must tell U is HELL . so what im goin to try is, using my original CD (2k-SP4) and look at that one. But i realy MUST tell you guys, - I allready rather use the English version myself. BTW: - When is the USP5. RC1 comming up. and do they include, the IE / DA / and DX components. (and if not, when is the best time to run them - UA - CMDLINES.TXT - sounds best to me, but will they be able to run already at that stage of setup?).
  25. ntoskernel.dll explorer.exe and lots of other files as wel, ## but if you realy want theme-soport, >> take uxthem.dl form windows-xp SP1 >> also take, explorer.exe system32.dll and perhaps 1 or 2 other files from XP as well, and put them on your windows 2000 install cd, (hav fun hunting for bsod's and buggs), and tell us if it works
