  1. this is NOT true, you may only install an OEM licence on a the OEM- computer, even if youd deside to install linux on that machine you cant install your XP on another (OEM's are NON-transferable), as soon as you upgrade the mobo (outside of warenty, you lose the licence) if you want to transfere (or be alowed to do so in the future) buy a Retail licence
  2. that explaines why you didn't have any sp installed after repairing... good luck with making the new cdrom...
  3. gurgle WB - nice to know your (about) OK,
  4. sorry i didn't reply sooner.... i have 1 question for you - when you repaired your windows did you use your SP5 slipstreamed CD or a (pure widnows w/o any SP's) anyway for a quick fix id recomand you to either re-install (or if you cant or dont want to) re-installle the uSP5 If you stil have the exe (win2k-usp51.exe) just run in on your machine, that should help......
  5. than you also dont use a virus scanner... - there is nothing you can do about this.. - maybe there is an option to disable NOD-Update - but its not recomanded - and since you should have bought this product FROM nod AV .inc , (or what-ever thair company name is, and als them if there are redistrubutables, of the antivir database but realy why would you even concider a virus-scan if people dont have access to the internet... i mean, with diskettes or usb devices - the content should alread have been scanned by the other computer (at work)..
  6. or beter yet.... decompressing edit config ini setuptype (change from normal to silent... change desination dir (if you wish)... and in the file 'browser.xpi' there is a folder \bin\extentions (or something like that) where you can add extentions (as xpi-files) witch will be installed ad first run (with user beining able to delete some of them i think) - also in your langruage_code. file (mine is NL-NL.xpi you can go to the folder bin/search and add your fave search pluggins too... // NOTE - im not the one who found out about this method but cant rembeber where i heard about this... (so credit goes to whoever did this the first time)...
  7. or better yet... download nlite and add the tweak directly to your installation infs ... and may i at the same time reccomand the SP5 updates - from Gurglemeyers (only if on a US/UK english version) or HFSLIP on other versions and MUI installes will save you a lot of updating later (on every install)
  8. Tommix you are an id***.. and if anyone stil nead this, id say... make somesore of aplicating (for example in C with some code like, check registry if key HKLM\software\oem\warrently\ exists and a subkey like $agrea$ is "yes" do nothing else pop up a window display a area-element loaded with c:\windows\oem\oemlicence.txt and an accept and decline button im not good at the actual code, - but it should work probebly with only 100kb of compiled code and be easily run from the windows config (either form HLML\software\Microsoft\windows\run or somthing simular.
  9. hmmm in that case either install a windows server OS (or a proxy service), or instead check your broom closet for that old IBM 80486 DX (with 16mb ram and a 100megz of diskspace) and install a linux router, there are quite a few and many also support USB modems... // Edit Release notes: IPCop v1.3.0 stable (dated april 2003). * Linux 2.4 kernel and iptables support * New supported hardware includes: o ECI ADSL supported modems o Alcatel Speedtouch 330 modem * Updated software includes: o Speedtouch 1.2beta o Snort 2.0.0 o Super FreeS/Wan 1.99 kb2c * Improved portforwarding interface: o Support for port ranges o Support for PPTP (GRE) [*]Versionnumber: 1.3.0 stable [*]Operating Systems: Linux, Linux x86 [*]filesize: 21,91MB [*]Licencetype: GPL
  10. yup sounds like a brilliant idea DUHHHH....
  11. OEM - how about - reducing size or images... A it screws the forum layout. B is almost big enought to require scrolling BTW what the .... is wrong with thumbs... :??? and looks even as if id seen the wall paper befor on a win2k theme, it is yours?????
  12. i wil forward a recomandation i read about at ryanvm's XP updates.... they seam to add a regkey to [htkey_machine\software\Microsoft\windows\updated_by\] name "Unofficial Service Pack 5.1 basic edition" version "uPS.51.b18" by "Gurglemeyer" special-thanks "http://www.msfn.org" How about that?????

iv seen some msi files word on w2k from svspck.inf < like openoffice) .... so not al msi-exec commands near gui (corrent user)....
  14. 2 ideas, 1 use checksum on the w2ksp51.exe - might be a corupted download..... 2 retry the slipstreming....
  15. NO at this mom i dont have a list of all the fixes included into this... SP. but you migt try looking at release date 15december 05... youd know that no later hotfixes than that could be included into the SP.... NO it is NOT possible to change the windows version to windows 2000 SP5 (well actualy it is, but it would brake-down any future windows updates)

    USP versions

the msfn board have been down and - i havent seen G online for ages :S mind i tell all of you who are desparate to include dx9 and NET into your os, that in the intergrate software section of the Nlite forums are good and up to date switchless installeres ( id recoment decabbing them, and putting the exe files in c:\install and run them grom the [GuiRunOnce] section in the winnt.sif file. (witch is running better than the hlfslip.inf files ... just only untill /G is able to release a better working SP build for them...
  17. Here is a q im wondering about... many of the OEM's Like DELL and Compaq have created Restore partitions, and i realy cant believe that no-one besides them know how its done, but looking on google i found about 2mln ways to delete one and not even 1 to create one, i know its done easily with a bootable cd (or more than one), but i somewhat dislike the idea and rather create a hidden partion with a 'dos menu' some systools and a ghost image - any sugestions A: how to create a hidden partition B: how to access a hidden partion from a flopydisk. C: how large it should be (about, to contain a ghost image of a 9gb windows partion... D: any other info that might come usefull
  18. oke... first of all lets get somthing clear.... what do you mean by uninstalling messenger ..... for windows 2000 doesn't have windows messenger like xp has, and the msgr service (windows service) is not un-installeble other than by hacking the hell out of windows.... (wich you can still do, just create the install cd with NLite add servicepacks - select USP51-basic.exe and do all stuff youd want to do after that... second of all unless it is to protect users, not any service pack should ever contain treaks that degrade usability of a system, (thats your job, not ours), perhaps you should have a look at the unattended tweaks section, all those tweaks for win2k will still word after intergrating usp5 (or at least they are suposed to)...
  19. READ people, READ... extract the ...... darn thing, to lets say.... C:\directX in that folder remove al the x64 files (you just dont nead those unles your going to run it on xp64 - than repack the remaining files to a selfextracting 7zip (or rar) file with the @dxsetup.exe /silent command, (or) start /wait dxsetup.exe /silent - note i dont know if the noreboot is usefull to, - just try and find out yourself.....
  20. the better qwuestion is, why whould you... id figure you already have your drivers installed, wich makes it rather useless untill you either change hardware in your pc... or want a fresh install, FWY - in most case after a hardware change a re-install of windows is recomanded anyway, (for all other versions than Windows VISTA), so i do realy thing that a re-install shouldn't be that bigg of a problem, (also if you have more than one partion (c for windows d for documents) a reinstall (if youd even want it with this driverpacks, wouldn't take you more than an hourd or just about that... so realy dont see the point of even spending so mutch time to see if it could be aplied to for example drivercatch.....
  21. yes it has been tested, by me for instance even though i already knew it couldn't work in will not wok on any other language than english any english UK as well as US version... if you want it localized start colecting the hotfixes, and Gurglemeyer May deside to build it for yah, but i must warn you it contains way so many hotfixes - (even if youd shorten the list by adding SP4.exe instaed of all the hotfixes and stripe out the hotfixes it superseads ..... it would probebly leave you 200+ fixes to also download.... ******* added comment: it just may or may not work if you'd binairy patch ALL the SPfltes in version nr's and langsettings.... but than half your os would turn english, - but that could than be fixed bu res-editing the language resourses of all the files (it would take about 2months (fulltime) to get this done, - so i wouldn't find it worth it, - but if you dis-agrea be welcome ask for details, on how to get it done...
  22. also note that -make unattende loads the normal setup wizard, so dont get scared it wont install but, rather make you a settings.ini file to pars with the setup, and if not mistatking also a runme.cmd this way you are fully in charge of what components are to be, and wich are not to be installed.
