  1. what a garbage i read here, for most parts, most people adding to this post dont even reconize that windows 2000/XP should in this manor be called Windows NT version 5 (and 5.1) second of all, windows 98 was a desktop manager / user shell, running on top of a doskernel, NT was bassed on work by Ex-AIX developers atracted by MS to build a new OS third of al, people ar blabbing about X9 being compatible with windows 9x - but realy the only part of DX that is copatible with both 9x and NT x is setup.exe..... also again, if your trying to compare 9x with NTx you should even be allowed to post about it.... the coparison itself is plain rubbish, and tells me just that you obviously dont see the point in how time-consuming OS-devolopment is, and that the release time for win 9x was so mutch shorter than that of XP that xp has a huge and unfair advantage. lets compare windows 4.8 (with its nt-based brother (nt 3.0) i thing most of you havent ever worked with NT from those days, but take it from me it wasn't pritty... i you want to compare xp compare it with OS2 (youl be shock how bad xp still is, and it isn't because of the 16bit exentions).
  2. sound to me you shouldn't, unless realtime shared agendas are critical to your user's neads... if not just buy yourself some email space and let it be hosted on a stable, (cheap) and way-faster server...
  3. why the big isue - DX9 can be installed un-ataanded form svcpck.inf (or whatever its called) (if somewone erly wants it it would be (for now) way easier to create a extreme compressed SFX (about 20mb?) and if that realy doesn't work id realy rather start have a verry long look at G's work and ad the darn DX-comp myself rather than trying to find the way to slipstream updates on 2 diferent ways.... (thats just asking for probs)....
  4. seeing and reading your reply i'd realy love to moke you and, tell you how its done but realy deploying windows 2000 is as easy as it gets, (if your willing to READ some documentation that is), yeah does didn't look nice, but hell unix looked worse and worked (euh did it ) way better, if you could figure it out, (thought i was way before i realy started with computers, so i started right with linux) windows 9x was a realy good os (in its days, it was fairly simple, userfriendly, and for 'the avarage user' quite sufficient, just not for corp use but hey, id moke companies who'd use 9x instead of NT4 all days of the week... well ofcource they are removing flopy support, its a disk that supports only 1.4mb of data (current avarage doc files (from about 25pages (wich isn't that mutch, are already bigger than that), it takes up quite a lot of space that could be used of the sata-raid controler. so. > we boot from cdrom, or usb - and leave the good-old flopy behind, (i realy hope) longhorn wil stop reserving a and b drives for floppies)... btw. yeah its a disaster for a good project like reactos is forced to regroup, thanks to those SOB lazy coders who rip of stolen MS source-code ....... BART-PE (i?)lligality, ??????? even though bart cant garantee that BartPE is actualy legal doesn't meen that it isn't, As far as i know, installing 1 singel (Retail licence) on a computer (ram or rom or hdd) is legit, also as far as i know it only writes diferent inf files for your customized software install, just dont use files your not entiteled to, so id not be ashamed to buy a 10x VLK license and make it a standard isue for al sys-admins, in a company..

    USP versions

Those 2 files, of wich one is gdiplus (if im not mistaking), should also be distributed by dotNET 1.1 - (will get included in next release), but if im wrong here, please give us the mames of the files that you think nead to be included...
  6. if indead it is required .... but im not realy familiar with Visiual c, so could tell (n'or test this) but if indead this adds, so extra 'used' functionality its very welcome
  7. as soon as gurgle is on he should ask the board admin's for a mod-status, on this sub-forum...
  8. just just the k-lite mega-codecs pack with klite-mega-v#.exe /makeunattended - ant create your own set of to install features, (yest you can leave aut both mpc and that other player, ater this is installed just run your vlc (or whatever other media-player setup).
  9. if you have a legit copy - why not just copy-disk (in nero), //* unless you want it to be slipstreamed first ofcaurce *\\
  10. in that case i realy think we'd better, create an sfx (self extracting archive to fix those 2 or 3 files in this particular case, than to re-create the exe and letting people re-download a 200+ mb file, but on behalf of all the USP5 users i'd like to thank you for reporting and fixiing this.... (Y) GOOD JOB(Y) */me adds os2fan2's name to this project's wall of fame...
  11. and realy this is supposed to be for evryone, lots of people realy love MS-MP9 (even though i have no idea why), but realy, getting rid of IE and MS-MP9 is as simple as use Nlite 1> copy %cdrom%\I386 to c:\w2k\ 2> intergrate w2ksp55.exe to the source 3> (remove IE / WMP (and whatever), 4> (use nlite addons to simply add VLC or Klite codec pack and what ever else you want)
  12. hmmz, if im correct this actualy does work on a (normal (non dos-initiated) install), at least it did when i tested it a while back ... but i guess, if this is the problem, there need to be found other ways...
  13. true, - but my point was, - that if you want it, use nlite to remove MS MP9 and a silent installer to get VLC
  14. if you want there is also a software way, (but it would st leave you with probebly 2 partions C and D... but you could change te size of your D (data) disk... most Tech-guys (like me) already would advise you to use partions, (what if your windows crashes - and you want to format your C-disk (youd lose all your file tooo).... there is a way though, that you could change your C drive to (about 5gb ( usualy recomanded for most installs of windows xp) and make your D: drive 15gb... if this is what you'd want, just reply and il go into detail.... any-ways it involves using 2 hacked windows system-files to use software raid (for non system partitions only) exactly like windows server 2003 does it....
  15. i must have been realy tired when posted that ... i didn't even notice - you said 'based on' by the way, could it be that windows inverts the color prop of the image's loading bar...
  16. so what up with that, is it just static ...
  17. thats not That odd, most people get hosted on a linux server, and ASP.NET isn't offered on most *nix servers..
  18. so do you use the xp (version of the file??? to get the xp-like bar instead of the 2k version)
  19. Here is your list MP9 ............. YES as its is already been desited, and is also a mircosoft update for other os's (xp) and does work on win 2000 as well codec ........... MAYBE could be, but i think WMP doesn't need most of them, so i wonder if its actualy needed. DX9 ............. YES wil be included also in the 5.2 release if i got G's post right. .NET 1.1 & 2.0 .. YES will also be released from 5.2 XP icons ....... NO XP taskbar ... NO Vista icons ... NO this is not something that will add extra functinality n'or stability to your os, if you want stuf like this, try xpize (for win2000), or one of the many shell replacements like desktop x. msconfig ...... MAYBE probebly it wil, firefox ......... NO eventhough im a huge firefox fan i think we shouldn't, for instance firefox is in rapidly development and thus people would be using old version from starter, also i believe that there already is a browser availible in the OS (MS Internet Explorer) and we shouldn't force our preferences to others, there are many, Like Maxton (even though i think it isn't any good and still has the same probs as IE) Like Opera (is also a realy good browser, Like firefox, (wich has extentions, is also why i prefere it to Opera), and a whole bunch of others.... there are many ways to use un-attended installers for any of the above browsers,
  20. as semi-official beta-tester, i vote for sticky
  21. If you mean that it can check if SP5 is installed NO. if you mean that you can use WSUS on a slipstreamed pc afterwards YES
  22. i better get new glassed but - dont forget to add the extra line in about... and yeah it seams to improve some ..... probebly one or 2 memory issues...

    files

id try to contact the support office of this MGI company and ask for a new CD, (if you have a valid licence (wich ofcaurse you do), most companies wont be a pain and send you new CDrom (for usualy no more than expences like P&P), If they dont, just download it from some P2P network (just be sure to dl the right one so your own licence key works), note: in most (not all) cauntries its aligable to make a spare copy of your cd (for archiving use), this is about the same, (as lone as its the same version and works with the same key)
  24. using 98lite there is but that would cost ya, but im not shure, (it im right the 98cd still lets you select components....
  25. as you have - done so mutch allready why not re-install windows as well, you may want to create an updated install-cd with SP2 and RVMpack's first, (read about that on this forum) there are a lot of things you might want to do like nlite-ing, adding un-attended software, driverpacks etc etc.
