  1. im begining to doubt it, and im not enthusiastic about it as i was xp. Im not encouraging people to upgrade, in fact im suggesting that people be cautious with approaching Longhorn. It seems it will offer little new for customers, except alot more ways for MS to control and regulate your pc habits.
  2. cheers, heres to many more btw I noticed you dont have EAC on on the site. I saw CDex but no EAC! [edit] also you could add some bittorrent clients, BitComet for example has official zip builds.
  3. I visit alot or sites including msfn, sometimes i participate sometimes i lurk. I suggest using RSS feeds to automatically be notified on site updates rather than manually refreshing and going to a page.
  4. ooh i like the future error dialog!
  5. Blair rejects calls for probe into bombings http://news.ft.com/cms/s/8186face-f17a-11d...000e2511c8.html [edit] more relative links: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=100...PxhhHA&refer=uk http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml.../ixnewstop.html http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/story/0,...1525764,00.html
  6. Ive been using Skype for a while, and recently tried out Gizmo. Ive heard of VOIPBuster but havent tried it yet but I will tonight. Does this use SIP or some propreitary protocol, because eventually they could just pull the plug
  7. awesome
  8. http://www.btsunattended.net/wiki/doku.php bingo, we have a winner!
  9. I reccomend ZoneAlarm Security Suite.
  10. we need a wiki on the unattended switches and maybe on some guides. I am considering doing this if i find the time to get it started. But I'd prefer to see it officially on MSFN, im sure it would be a great asset.
  11. Try ZoneAlarm Firewall, its free for individual and non-profit use: http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/cata...lid=dbtopnav_za
  12. I've decided not to bother with the update packs from ryanvm anymore, I'll just wait it out for SP3. Alot of these updates are just not important enough to risk breaking a system.
  13. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=42703&hl= HP uses the same driver pack for all the all-in-one printers. Yours would be considered the 5500 series. Go to the link and try the B49MB Basic Feature Software from HP.
  14. Excellent discovery! Ive had this annoying problem for too long, shame on MS for not fixing this! Is there a way to 'undo' this hotfix on machines that were setup with ryanvms update pack slipstreamed?
  15. btw Gaim can also be installed silently. http://gaim.sourceforge.net/win32/index.php#wingtk
  16. so is this program capable of stoppping root kits from being installed? for example the Hacker Defender rootkit?
  17. i use firefox and never get spyware. indeed an once of prevention is worth a pound of cure. And i know people are going to say its a matter of time before people start getting spyware while browsing with firefox, i disagree. You could disable allow websites to install software, and/or go beyond that and use the noscript extension. for people that use IE, use maxthon instead.
  18. nah i checked .NET is installed. Im going to try a plain XP disc next, if that doesnt do it the card is going back. [edit] I can get it to work using the plain xp cd and the microsoft drivers. Werid how it was working up until now. Im going to try to get a new card. sorry for the distraction, carry on
  19. im getting a BSOD after setup on the first boot right after the boot screen. The card is a Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro. I used XP MCE and integrated RyanVM's update pack v1.2.2 with nlite v.9.99b ati2dvag STOP: 0x000000EA, 0x81648DA8, 0x816803E8, 0xF896DCB4, 0x00000001 [EDIT] Windows exhibited the same problems with the old 505 driver pack as well. I then tried again after removing graphics packs A & B from OEM. Same problem after manually installing Catalyst 5.6, Omega 5.6, and Catalyst 4.2. Tommorow I will try MCE again, without integrating RyanVMs update pack.
  20. simonsays mentioned Net Transport, another like that is HiDownload, also not free. Leechget is very nice, and has a free personal edition. There are two free and open source download manager that i know of:TrueDownloader and Wackget . Both are worth looking at. There also is a Firefox extension called FlashGot (not FlashGet) which is a great way to use a download manager with Firefox.
  21. I want to confirm that RyanVM's Update Pack v1.2.2 works with MCE 2005. I used nlite to integrate the update pack, and later copied over the WMP9-Less INF's. The last step is you need to replace these 4 files in the I386 directory with the original ones from your MCE cd (for wmp10): DRMV2CLT.DL_ WMNETMGR.DL_ WMP.DL_ WMVCORE.DL_ However there are still MCE specific hotfixes that arent included in the Update Pack, such as: Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 Update Rollup 1 (KB873369) KB888316 KB890629 Q890760 Q895678 These can be installed during Windows Setup with RunOnceEx.cmd
  22. OK i finally decided to try the new driver pack, and during the slipstream process i noticed a few errors using M2. I had used nlite v99.9b and RyanVM UP 1.2.2 and I also took screenshots of these errors. During Part B: Slipstreaming DriverPacks During Part C: Settings Once it was finished I inspected files and folders. Like digitalfrost in post #17, I also had a weird filename for winnt.sif (WINNT.SIF590005115). The only changes made in winnt.sif were two lines were removed: [Data] MSDosInitiated= "No" [Unattended] OemPreinstall = Yes Im going to rename winnt.sif, add back those two lines, and test in vmware. Just wanted to confirm the issue that digitalfrost and others may be having. [EDIT] I tried and recieved this error on XP MCE, I did not get these errors with XP PRO. digitalfrost thought it may have had to do with the language he was using. just FYI. [EDIT2] I doubt the problem is from the packs. I redid MCE without the ryanvm packs and had no errors during slipstream at all. Now I will test it on the feared VIA board wish me luck [EDIT3] Everything went great including the SATA drivers for my Asus K8V SE Deluxe. I used nLite 1b4 and the latest BTS. Sorry about these stupid troubles, and Thanks again!
