What's Flashing From Mysterious Dwarf Planet - Ceres
vinifera replied to Monroe's topic in General Discussion
hehe those pictures on link comparing to death star its bit sad that so little is invested in space exploration now but rather in war sure they are mapping our galaxy and some parts of space, sure they get pictures of other galaxies but nothing else ... these probes are just fast collectors what happened to beacons ? are voyagers last of its kind ? what is behind Oorts Cloud ? -
after all this seeing I'm gonna vomit think its time for another wave of fireing people after the win10 launch they can't produce anything normal anymore
-
same here in fact, if XP had taskbar that of 7, I'd use XP (no viglance doesn't do it)
-
well at least they changed icons must be some other build hmm i saw more gradient 3dish ones ah yes it was from feedback lab
-
why would in todays era anyone want to use compressed OS ? wouldn't that simply trash your storage device more and more ??? same for question 2 posts above, if they use current system files for recovery, and they get infected what kind of stupid a** recovery then that would be ?? what kind of idiots work at MS anyway ... ???

winborders to be transparent isn't problem but if they extend it onto explorer they will have problems coz of stupid ribbon you can see that even office 2010 have solid color + fade behind ribbon, any transparency would kill the user interaction with it
-
all I see is disaster of future Win users less quality, less satisfaction, too fast changes for nothing and bunch of other things that piss me off
-
so dumbing down continues I see icons are progressing back to 2 color age winframes and skin in general is still fugly even installation process is terrible

Otter Browser - Project to Recreate Classic Opera (12.x)
vinifera replied to Monroe's topic in Software Hangout
they can't use Presto as it is closed source, NOBODY has it, and if somebody magically did, legally they couldn't use it so they use ported WebKit onto QT, which is actually good thing if you want maximum web compatibility the progress will be slower than Vivaldi's, coz vivaldi doesn't care of bug free and all they had to do is yank out the chromium code and continue, while Otter - and any other QTwebkit based browser cannot do this, as these are separate projects and porting webkit to QT is tedious also theres no need for comparison, vivaldi = bloated unoptimized ... whatever you wanna call it otter isn't -
painless file system conversion ?
vinifera replied to vinifera's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
yeah my HDD is small ... im still old HW user kinda sucks to see USB stick to have bigger storage than my partition then again I belong to those "if it aint broken don't fix it" -
Noel I read somewhere (most probably on MDL forums) that w10 (server I guess) allows boot from ReFS partition
-
AFAIK it is still in testing stages also by analysis of other IT people, it seems ReFS is crippled compared to NTFS its only advantage is that self-healing thing that nobody cares about
-
so I have 32gig USB stick but by default it came with FAT32 FS now that I stiffed bunch of movies on it I wish to have it in NTFS, but don't want to format or lose data can conversion be made "direct" without killing data on it ?

Otter Browser - Project to Recreate Classic Opera (12.x)
vinifera replied to Monroe's topic in Software Hangout
people are missing the point of both Vivaldi = another Chrome clone Otter = QT based browser that uses ported Webkit engine (QTWebKit), but is not Chrome clone, thus works blazing fast and has small memory footprint - they both aim at bringing back old Opera features, but are miles away in difference under the hood -
I hated XP, mostly coz I was winME user, but that thing was so unstable that I wanted solid OS then I heard of its "brother" win2000, but it lacked good multimedia support then years later I switched to XP SP1 that was blazing fast and loved it since

Windows 10 search process uses almost double the RAM of Winamp
vinifera replied to rn10950's topic in Windows 10
replace it with dud.exe and see what happens -
thats why I loved testing Longhorn and Vista betas so many technology there was stiffed in with nice glossy themes (vista beta 1-2) heck even alphas of win "7" were exciting, especially the PDC 6801 build theres one guy who still today is importing some stuff from both vista betas and alphas (longhorn) into XP source, to kinda get best of 2 worlds but with this win8/10 crap, oh well ... I ain't gonna touch them

I'm more offended with icons being colored BW rocks !

Experimental Spartan Browser Rendering Engine Wakes Up and Works
vinifera replied to NoelC's topic in Windows 10
no I'm not chrome and idiotic firefox started that bul***** before that all was fine, Opera worked on all sites and IE.... who gives a s*** then comes HTML 5/CSS 3, and hypocritic chrome and ff become using their own prefixes poor opera had to follow and since then agent strings started to determine who has "rights" to approach the web bloody idiotic world most ironic, all now put "mozilla 5 compatible" inside string what the hell is with that ? -
Noel you can't kill desktop as long as touch based OS cannot be used as workstation as easy as plain desk PC - programming aka writing code on tablets is disaster - playing any games that require both keyboard+mouse is disaster - doing any serious both 2D and 3D rendering and editing of images/objects is disaster lets not forget how cluttered and unmanaged "Metro OS" is its just not happening, and as much as I hate to start with Apple, but they realized this long long time ago... you have special OS for touch devices and special OS for Desk PC's that does integrate SOME services related to cloud and all that bul***** in fact and I hate repeating myself like **** parrot, but touch in general, will only become dominant with holographic DEVICES, and by the time home users can afford this and machines and apps become available, I'm affraid humanity will be long gone ... some things just don't add up just like isometric games could not totally use 3D objects (except voxels, and only 1 company did this) so industry HAD to switch onto 3D engines/games just look at the Vista, Vista is in fact 3D OS, everything is mapped via DWM into 3D space yet we all still use 2D objects and "2D OS", simply coz you can't invoke user experience of 3D onto 2D display

Experimental Spartan Browser Rendering Engine Wakes Up and Works
vinifera replied to NoelC's topic in Windows 10
and this just shows how browser wars again come if they all would comply to W3C standards, there would be NO need for any user agent string at all but this is such a bul***** childish game that I'm so sick of few months ago I had to hex-edit agent string in OLD Opera 11, to show Firefox 24 in order to approach Apple's iCloud site ain't that hilarious ? it gets better now, now I'm using Otter along with old Opera, and Otter allows users to manually write whatever agent string they want... (which is great for the very reason above) so will web at the end become playground for agent strings ?
