    Numlock Key

jpeshek, Welcome on "THE" forum B) If you want to set the startup state for any or all of these keys, you just need to edit the registry. - Start Regedit - Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Control Panel \ Keyboard - Open InitialKeyboardIndicators - Change the value to one of the following numbers 0 - All Keys off 1 - Caps Lock on 2 - Num Lock on 4 - Scroll Lock on For multiple keys, add their values: 3 - Caps Lock and Num Lock on 5 - Caps Lock and Scroll Lock on 6 - Num Lock and Scroll Lock on 7 - Caps Lock, Num Lock, and Scroll Lock on -Log off and back on again Windows Xp some times doesn´t do what you tell it to do .
  2. nLite from Nuhi, also on this forum, to mak a custume install CD; You must try it, coolest program EVER made for XP I think : http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showforum=89 RyanVM Pack 1.05; a collection of HotFixes and more: http://www.ryanvm.net/msfn/ “WinXp will not compress old files (for example disk cleanup) ---> this is good” You could turn that off. “-file and directory fragmentation will be much lesser than in cluster size set to 4 kB ----> this is good” Only file fragmentation will be less, directory will be the same (only a smaller FAT) “-because of greater cluster size file read and write is faster because files took less allocation units in the physical disk ----> this is good” True… -the wasted disk space will increase because the smallest disk unit will increase ---- > this is bad, but exceptable True… Any way, try to slipstream it by hand first or try it with nLite (works the same) also I woud slipstream RyanVM Pack in.
  3. @ sonu27, Give me the numbers on the DIMM chips so I can see what timings they have, alos I think the 64MB one is much slower in most cases then the new 512MB one (or 2x 256Mb?). Buy a new cooler before you start over clocking. I think you can get your CPU like 10% higher on standard voltage, but see if it´s worth it. Before I had a Celeron II (P3 with 128kB cache) on 600MHz pushed up to 1132MHz but I needed to get it up to 2 volts to get is work and a nice cooler (I did it with a Thermaltake Super Orb and removed the upper fan (it has 2 fans)) with coper based contact plate and "silver" thermal paste (for example Artic Silver). And like prathapml is saying, there are nice clock generator tools to overclock your system. The only thing you need to do is to find out which clock-gen. is used on your mobo.
  4. Only problem I have with those lanboys is that it´s only 0.8mm aluminium wich makes is not a stronge case, also the ABS (plastic) used for doors is thin, but stong, no one killed one of the doors in 15 months. I have 6 Lanboy "I" cases here in my cyber and those ones only use 8cm fans. It´s good that they moved to 12cm fans. http://www.anandtech.com/casecooling/showdoc.aspx?i=2346 Also a good case, tested by Anandtech, from Antec...
  5. Using NTFS the cluster size will be 4kB for partitions from 256MB - 2TB normally. I use only 4kB clusters over here, drives from 80-160GB... This is a nice guide for some information: http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/perf/perf/e...eCluster-c.html Why use 16kB clusters, to keep the FAT smaller? Or faster reading/writing of the drives? Strange that M$ isn’t supporting >4kB cluster drives (with or without RAID (x)). I always slipstream service packs first and test it, then I do some unattended install later with a personalized CD (with nLite/RyanVM Pack for example).
  6. That´s what I´m saying, it wasn´t a joke .
  7. Nope, R.EXE will come back, it´s not found in a REG KEY so it should be build in a DLL... Anyway, it´s not helping Saraband out...
  8. There is no strange service there as far as I can see, your explorer.exe should not get up to that 100MB. Realy, I think you have a virus there, or you used some strange reg tweaks? Also, I have a strange one here, R.EXE is remaking his self all the time in c:\... Virus scanners should remove it BC it´s know as a virus but it´s nor removing nor reporting it... So, it could be that some how it not seen as a virus... .
  9. Cashing, but I never get mine more then 21MB , I think you have a virus or something there... Post your SERVICES.MSC list here and we could see if there is any thing in it that makes EXPLORER.EXE that big....
  10. I don’t think he’s asking for this LOL , on other treats he’s talking about a 1O0o US$ budget .
  11. Or the poles could be diferent too... So you think you have blown up some hardware? Also, when the power supply doest give enough watts it could indeed kill your device too, meaning dropping voltage and getting higher amps .
  12. I would like to have one too, but most of them are not for free. I just keep it with a clock on the wall and good old paper but if there are good, free apps, I´m open for that .
  13. Okay, put Casetek and ThermalTake too, they are using the same ones as Chieftech does with 1mm steel (or aluminium). Only problem is that it only has 8cm fans (double in the back)...
  14. Buy a case that has brackets for 12cm fans . That wil be BTX, iNTELs latest design . So, ripken204, If you have an iNTEL system, there are special cases for that.
  15. Are you sure that you use the SiS USB connectors? Did you try an other device on these connectors?
  16. Say... - What price range we are talking about? - Color? - Window? - What noise? - What fans you like to use? - fanless ? - ATX or BTX? - Desktop, Mid/Full tower or uATX? And so on, give a few hinds for us please
  17. I would think about a driver problem. SP2 isn’t handling clusters differently then SP1. Try to get a non SP1ed CD and slipstream SP2 in that one, it could help.
  18. Make a shortcut?
  19. No you don´t need an identical mobo, just the same kind of BIOSes, ig. from AWARD. But to recover it is the best way, if you have waranty then use that, last one hotswap BIOS .
  20. Astalavista, making friends again? I don’t understand why de admins don’t kick you’re a** of MSFN.ORG. EDIT: Okay, you wrote me a PM but I can´t PM you bc you blocked me. You know you were wrong on the forum for many times but I can see you will be less bold to people on the forum from now on. @ Daos Can you remove the BIOS chip easy? If it´s the old type BIOS chip then you can remove it easy... 1. Remove BIOS chip from the motherboard 2. Boot with other motherboard and the right flash-util. 3. When booted, remove the BIOS chip from that motherboard too 4. Plus in the "faulty" flashed BIOS and start to flash that one with the good BIOS. 5. Turn of all and replace BIOSes again. WARNING: This is a HOT-SWAP procedure; it can destroy your motherboard. I did it a lot of times with 100% success, but be careful please. BUT, if you have waranty, use that and DON´T say anything about flashing the BIOS. 90% Of RMAs are flashed wrong .
  21. Memtest, that´s one of the smallest and fastest RAM checkers and it´s for free too but I think it will not help any thing...
  22. BIOS updates are most of the times good, but I don´t think it will help you. Try an other IDE cable...
  23. The old VGA cards up to 4xAGP use 3.3v, the new ones use 1.5-1.7v (some ones even use 2.5-2.7v like DDR-RAM) so don´t worry about your card, it will work fine . The warning is: If you use a 3.3v AGP card it WILL damage your motherboard or VGA card... or some thing like that. So DON´T push in a TNT card (LOL, TNT, C4)
  24. Looks like a bad or corroded contact to me, buy "contact cleaner" and use it only on the contacts.
  25. Looks like an incompatible problem to me or a not good working card, also, why didn’t you go for a nVidia 6600GT card for example? This card can’t work with pixel shader 3.0 and the new games like to use that (Full DirectX 9c). I would take the card back where you bought it .
