  1. I like to add that not all mother boards give these beeps, but MSI board will.
  2. @ holzer, VIA isn’t bad, also iNTEL is still dominating the marked because they have a lot of patens on there name, together with better marketing makes it a giant to fight against. It’s NOT VIA that makes AMD bad and sure nVidia did a good job with the chipsets, I would go for a nVidia chipset too, but the VIA is a bit cheaper (looking at price/speed). @ rjz, Let me try to explain SLI in plain simple English; SLI is an interface between 2 graphic cards in this case that work together. There for you need a motherboard with dual SLI and for now it’s only supported by dual PCI-E (8x max) motherboards (there are some exceptions but forget them . )
  3. That´s why you need a page file . Even if you have 2GB of RAM still some programs will only run with a page file activated. @ Jeremy, Games ask most of the time a page file, not ALL . @ Yzöwl, a page file is not required by all programs, but a Server that works with 512MB a no page file is indeed a time bomb .
  4. They did it before with SP1, SP2 isn´t working any more and they are wondering why. Also M$ is not giving them an other option then to use 4k clusters so they have to use 3rd party tools to make 8, 16, 32, 64 bit clusters .
  5. If you don´t show them I would disable them too. I also have them disabled and shown on my computers too. I don´t like that people see what file is opened last .
  6. Use nLite, disable services (INDEX and THEME service are taking up a lot!). Start with that, read more on the forum too . 512MB with no page file is asking for trouble I think .
  7. ASUS A8V with AGP8x * for 140.00 US$ ASUS A8V-E with PCI-E* for 170.00 US$ ASUS A8N-SLI with PCI-E SLI* for 180.00 US$ * For now PCI-E isn’t giving ANY performance boost for resolutions under 1280*1024. From 1280*1024 and up you can see some performance gains but still the question is “is it worth it”. SLI is nice, when you have the cash . Also, Zalman all the way for cooling .
  8. If it´s an ASUS motherboard and it´s OEM, then I think you have a REFURBISHED mobo. You don´t want that, it was a defect mobo before (90% got wrongly flashed but still).
  9. Just some tips: Don’t buy: - Jaton - XFX - AOpen This is a nice one, only it isn’t in stock: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....-122-208&depa=1 Asus and MSI make nice ones too, Chaintech is moderated, Rosewill and Apollo are new to me. Do you need a PCI-E or AGP card?
  10. Why you ask that? Most of the ATI AIW have the design from ATI it self, so there is not much diference between them. Only diference you will find are the coolers.
  11. That´s what I also asked him/her on his Quiet PC" question. Thermaltake makes small water cooling systems for a nice price
  12. True, They are only good for home cinema systems. Still you need airflow . And that Zalman CPU cooler... .. . ripken204, Who cares about the connections on your mobo, most fans come with a 3 to 4 pin adaptor. Only the 3 pin version will provide you with RPM information by your motherboard.
  13. Normaly it is, or you must turned it of with a REG setting .
  14. 150 vs 133, okay, so 17Mega Bytes a second (not bit ) more for flushing cache and interface speed. I can tell you there is almost NO diference of speed between them, not even with the upcomming SATA 2. Also most drives brands don´t even border with ATA 133, just using ATA 100, and still there is almost NO performance boost with SATA .
  15. Wrong post . Any way - 2 IDE ATA133 drives can make RAID 0,1 - 3 3 pin connections on your motherboard, 1 used for CPU fan, 2 others for the other fans in your system.
  16. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....-103-908&depa=0 http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc....-103-914&depa=0 Antec makes one of the best power supplies. Enermax has also nice ones with a voltage regulator for the 8cm fan in the back.
  17. Noise(dBA): 21 That’s like whispering... But like I told you before, good airflow and low noise = 12cm fan. Now you ask for 8cm fans... I thought you were building a PC for 1000US$. Now you start to ask power supplies with a price of 130US$? . Any way, look for Zalman cooling solutions. And there is no need for a fanless power supply, just take a quiet fanned one. Why don´t you think about water cooling? Just one 12cm for the whole system. Look for a Seagate HDD, those ones are quiet and fast .
  18. It will accept 3 pin connectors, 3rd pin will be the "RPM-pin" so you can see how fast it’s spinning. Also, there is no problem with any fans except for "alpha black label 7000-7400rpm fans, they ask more amps. If you don’t need to see the RPM of a fan, then you could go for a 4 pin adaptor or fan.
  19. I like to add that DirectX games will be emulated and there for **** slow on Linux . OpenGL will work fine . So, if a game works with OpenGL it´s worth to try .
  20. Yes, they are the best, but they don´t have nice lights in them as I remember, just plain black ones...
  21. ripken204, Are you going to buy a case with 8cm fans? The "new" ones have 12cm fan brackets. What are your plans?
  22. Just PMed you, gona send you a nice file... EDIT: Just emailed you, I hope you have enough info for now
  23. Same problem as you have with "Shortcut Problem"... Check your reg-tweaks and next time don´t apply them. Look in that list you have and change the things back like they were, ig 0 to 1 for example. If the option is hide, make it a 0; if the option is show then make it a 1. Just be carefull next time when you apply reg-setting by hand or with any other program Look here: http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/1037/
  24. http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/dis...004-27gpu2.html Nice roundup of 27 cards, AGP and PCI-E...
  25. Didn´t know that, cool to know, thanks
