  1. How do I change it so the default view remains icons only for the CD Drive ? It used to be tiles for the HDD and icons for the CD Drive.
  2. Since today afternoon, the default view for my CD drive has changed from icons to tiles. Changing it back to icons manually isn't working since it reverts back to tiles when the CD window is opened again. Is there a way to keep the default view for the drive to icons and make it stay that way ?
  3. That's just the result of running at the wrong resolution. Max for a 15-inch CRT is 800x600, although in many cases 640x480 will be much clearer. Well, I've been using it at 800*600 for a year and a half without any problems for the large part.
  4. Thank you for your help, mates. yeah, it does seem to be the monitor. The repairman will take a look at it soon, I don't know if adjustment to compensate for it is possible or not. He seemed pretty sure too over the phone that the monitor was at fault. Its getting to be an eyesore. Normal text like this is fine, but bold and larger fonts seem distorted too in addition to being a bit blurry. The strange thing is, even though it has been a gradual thing, icons seemed pretty sharp till about a week ago. Then I reinstalled XP, and even icons became very blurry immediately. The difference was easily noticeable.
  5. This is a very old PC, It has a 15 inch CRT monitor and no graphics card (inbuilt I think). Since a few months, the monitor has been getting more and more blurry. I can read text all right, almost fine (except for big bold fonts, where the borders of the text appear blurry), and pics are almost fine too. Its just a general blurring of the monitor, the toolbars, text on the titlebars of windows etc.. Also certain icons seem distorted when they were fine before. This has been gradual over around 10 months and gets worse over time... Where does the problem lie ? Is it the monitor or do I need a graphics card ? Or is it the cable from the PC to the monitor ? I'd appreciate help please, its a strain on the eyes.

  10. I have no idea about the graphics card. I'm a novice, I'll ask my friend about it. And thank you for that link. It solved the problem beautifully
  11. Hello, My comp uses an Intel 810 chipset. Recently a guy did a reinstall of win98se for me, but I'm not sure the graphics are right. The Diagnostic thing showed that it was running on 65000 colours. I downloaded and reinstalled the drivers, but even though i've set it on high colour, it doesnt seem right.. Is there any reason for this ? I also have another problem. I've been using tweakui to get rid of those ugly arrows on desktop icons for shortcuts. Today I ran the windows update for critical updates, and on reboot, the arrows have returned. Even though I've set it on "do not place arrows" in tweakui, they still display .Any ideas on getting rid of them please ?
  12. I did try and restore it via dos. it displayed a screen which I believe indicatd that the library had been restored with the previous backed-up copy, but the problem persisted. What you're saying about RAM is interesting.. Actually theres another reason why I wanted 128, and thats because none of the games i am interested in run on less than 128 MB
  13. Thanks for all the advice. I used the registry cleaner, and windows refused to start up later. Despite absolutely no knowledge, I've somehow used that step-by-step confirmation process to start it up... the anti-virus isnt running now, and Age of Empires wont work . Was it the registry cleaners fault ? Anyway, I'll have to load Windows again I think then.
  14. See, I already use a 64MB Ram, and I need to buy a 128 MB to place in the other slot. What types are there and how do i find out which one is for my pc ? Its SD Ram, that much i know
