Different users will say the same thing about both defragmenters. PerfectDisk is however getting (or already has) a feature where it can defragment files without opening them first.
-
Well, it's a trade-off then... You either go with PerfectDisk to have all your files side-by-side for fastest access time, or You go with Diskeeper which will place files at the beginning and end of the disk and just leave huge gaps in between files.
-
I've switched back to PerfectDisk because the SIAFI and IFAAST features of PerfectDisk don't appear to be anything more than automated defrags initiated when a certain point of overall fragmentation on the drive occur. PerfectDisk can do essentially the exact same thing by being scheduled to run a full pass defrag, for example, when you're sleeping. The full-pass defrag will take longer or shorter depending on how fragmented the drive is at the time. It may take 5 minuites, maybe 5 hours. Also, SmartPlacement adds to the time. Is it is true that access times get worse as you near the end of the disk, than SmartPlacement is always the best option if you're concerned about time in milliseconds. Anyway, bottom line, I think the features are hyped about so much, people think they need this and that just to have their files in order and defragged. Not true. Also, about the workload your HD goes through. Either defrag 5 times a day with Diskeeper without "Smart" or use PerfectDisk once at night with SmartPlacement to put everything in order at the beginning of the disk where the HD's mechanical reader requires less time and effort to go to the files. If you have two files defragged by DK and they are at the beginning and end, the reader has to travel from one end to the other. Why not have them side by side? Makes sense, no?

The MSN Plus addon may give you more options.

You could use the Mess or A-Patch for WLM and enable multiple instances of the EXE, be logged into two accounts at the same time.

Have you made any changes to your router configuration? -
problems with msn messenger and also wireless
Jeremy replied to neiantrim's topic in Software Hangout
As for the error code you get from MSN Messenger, I Googled this, first result: Has your router always done this (new wireless?) or is it something that has just started within the past day or so? -
Removed Windows defrag and diskcleaner but want back
Jeremy replied to tal ormanda's topic in Windows XP
CCleaner and Diskeeper/PerfectDisk are excellent alternatives to these aged XP features. if you want them back, you'll need a Windows CD to restore them. -
Opera has been free for a long time so I don't know what the confusion is.

I don't understand you're wording there. It's meant to provide info for you to use when deciding which anti-virus is best for you, even though as I already said above which where the two best (on demand, and proactive).

*new* Hp All-in-one Printer Software & Drivers
Jeremy replied to DigeratiPrime's topic in Hardware Hangout
Me? I just mean that when I download a package from Lexmark, it contains software bundled with drivers supporting every OS from Windows 9x to Server 2003. That can be 100s of MBs in size. I just find the "ME/XP" or "2000/XP" folder and delete the rest, nothing complicated. In other cases I use Driver Genius to backup only the necessary files by reading the file list in the INF file. -
I've been using my Creative SBL 5.1 for over 3 years and never had any issues with it nor any complaint about the sound quality. I reckon I'm just used to it, but from a salesperson's perspective, if the customer doesn't complain, then what's the problem?

*new* Hp All-in-one Printer Software & Drivers
Jeremy replied to DigeratiPrime's topic in Hardware Hangout
I've been isolating and compressing just the drivers for all my hardware for as long as I can remember. The only downside is that sometimes even the drivers for those brand name All-In-One's can be pretty hefty. Our AIO sucks. It's a Lexmark P2650. -
what account do you use in Win XP. Administrator or User?
Jeremy replied to Grig182's topic in Windows XP
Administrator account. I am very careful and haven't had any problems in a couple of years, so... -
www.av-comparatives.org Independent Tests of Anti-Virus products. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=82069 Kaspersky is well-known to be the overall best on-demand scanner. NOD32 works a bit faster but is based on heuristics (Retroactive/Proactive).

Clicky Thanks goes to my friend Eli for passing this along.

The only thing Shareaza is good for is music. Other than that, it's a piece of junk. if it works for you, congrats. It's not that I couldn't get it working... I mean... I know how to set it up and the ports and whatnot, but it just plain ol' sucks.

Not if you use nLite.
-
Yeah, ok, but it still fails to log it in the normal exported format. But nevermind, I figured out how to do it with Sandboxie, however, even still, lacking the proper format.
-
Yeah, Acronis True Image really comes in handy. I haven't made a new image file in a long time. I'm waiting until the next nLite release comes out so I can reformat, install, configure and image at that time.

Windows XP does not eventually slow down. You have to maintain the performance of your PC. Your PC doesn't take care of itself. Clean out the junk/temp/cache, clean the registry (with a good regcleaner like JV16's), defrag. Also have at least 512MB of RAM and a decent CPU.

Here is another example, Andro. You mention there are better ways, yet you fail to specify what they are. That's what I was referring to in the order thread. A lack of information. Not flaming you, just letting you know, whether you do it intentionally or not.
-
You repeat yourself by your own will, so to complain how it gets tiresome is pointless. You said "I am a pro and I use the best software", but you don't specify the names of those programs. I'm not an expert in the sense that I have my own company and advise people what to use, but I do have a good knowledge of great 3rd party software to use and I am very proud of the collection of software that I have. And I'm not flaming you, but your frequent posts about how great you are and such only goes to satisfy your own ego, and not the knowledge of the user you're directing your posts towards, otherwise you would indeed have mentioned some software. And besides, I believe flaming usually comes in the form of swearing and insulting the other person, which is not my intention. However you interpret it is up to you. And as per request, even though I have listed great programs in the past, I'll do so again. If you wish to comment or debate my choices, go ahead and I'll gladly go about it in a civil manner as to keep the thread chilled. Let me see... computer performance and security... Acronis True Image, Acronis Disk Director, Driver Genius Pro 2005, Everest, jv16 PowerTools, R-Studio Corporate, VMware Workstation, XPLite, CCleaner, DeepFreeze, Dial-A-Fix, Diskeeper, nLite, Norton Removal Tool (SymNRT), NT Registry Optimizer, PerfectDisk, RyanVM Update Pack, Sandboxie, Serviwin.exe (services.msc replacement), strun.exe (msconfig.exe replacement), Ultimate BootCD 3.4 Basic, UltraVNC, UniExtract, Unlocker, User Profile Hive Cleanup Utility, Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, Windows XP Services Tool and Xpy. Ewido AntiSpyware, Portable Ad-Aware SE and Spybot S&D, Windows Defender, Kaspersky, NOD32, Outpost Firewall, Ad Muncher, Hamachi and Opera.
