  1. Yeah you say controversial, I say crazy ME was beyond horrible. but to each his own. etc etc Oh and for the record, AFAIK Vista has never been officially marketed as the 'Vista Experience' but the XP marketing campaign was 'eXPerience' which was mocked relentlessly by the same people that are currently clinging to its dying corpse.
  2. i cant really speak for Nuhi so dont take this as an official response but my understanding is its just to keep the windows EULA and the nlite license from conflicting. if you make modifications to your own personal copy thats between you and MS but if you modify a companies windows install with nlite and they require support from MS, MS could refuse to support them because of nlites modifications. if nlite 'allowed' corporate use they could be held liable for damages. Example: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=948343#method2 (concerning Vlite but its the same situation) now thats far from an official response but you get the idea.

  7. Q: Where can i download it and which version should i download? A: Depends on how many machines you will be updating. 1-3 machines: Windows Update / Microsoft Update More than 3: Network Installation Package (or if creating a slipstreamed copy) Manually updating multiple machines with slow/no internet connection: ISO-9660 CD Image File - NOTE: this is the service pack inside an ISO file only. You will still need an XP source CD to create a SP3 slipstream disk. MUI Pack Update - Language pack for SP3 Q: What Service pack level do I need to install SP3? A. XP SP1a or greater. Q: What Service pack level do I need to slipstream SP3? A. XP SP1a or greater for the OS you will be executing the slipstream process under. The Source/Destination OS can be any SP level (though most recommend that SP3 only be slipstreamed into SP0/GOLD/RTM Source. Q: Where is the x64 version? A: Windows Xp x64 edition is based off the Server 2003 x64 kernel. This is not the service pack you are looking for. For the latest x64 SP3 info try the x64 forum Q: Where is the XP MCE version? A: At the time of this post, Windows XP MCE edition has yet to be released. This is not the service pack you are looking for. For the latest MCE SP3 info try the MCE forum Q: Is IE7 included in SP3? A: No IE7 is NOT included as part of SP3. however, you should be aware that if you have IE7 Installed at the time SP3 is applied, you will not be able to revert to IE6 without uninstalling SP3 first. Q: Is Windows Media Player 10/11 included in SP3? A: No WMP11 is NOT included as part of SP3. If you slipstream SP3 into a XP GOLD/SP0/RTM Source, you will have WMP9. you can get WMP11 through WU/MU but WMP10 will not be offered as an option. If you want WMP10, you can get it here. Q: 3rd Party themes dont work after installing SP3: A: You need to repatch your UXtheme.dll see this thread: SP3 UX theme patcher Q: I had the Windows Firewall service set to disabled before SP3 and now I cant VNC to a machine after installing SP3. A: SP3 sets the Windows firewall Service to Automatic during install. before you restart after installing SP3, be sure to re disable it. Q: Since installing SP3 I cant move the IE address bar to the taskbar. A: Yes that feature has been removed. This Issue is being discussed here. Q: My CD key no longer works after Slipstreaming SP3: A: Don't Slipstream XP SP3 from a PC running Vista or Server 2008. Windows XP GOLD/SP0/RTM, SP1, SP3 and Server 2003 are all confirmed to work properly Q: Were can i get more information about whats in SP3? A: Windows XP Service Pack 3 Overview
  8. not taken away just moved to a less obvious place. Insert Tab -> Clip Art -> Organize Clips(Lower Right) -> File -> Add Clips to Organizer -> From Scanner or Camera the window that opens is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\MSTORE.EXE if you wanna create a shortcut to it.
  9. and you are welcome to search for the result. there are about 10 threads concerning SP3 and CD keys currently
  10. well the term 'push to wsus' is wrong. updates are made available to WSUS and approved (or Not approved) locally. It showed up on my WSUS on tuesday but so far, its approved only for the IT and Mobile(laptops) groups. once i get 100% compliance in both groups, ill throw it at another department. eventually i'll see 100% compliance across all groups but im in no rush to get there. but yeah if you are using automatic updates on your clients and havent set them up with wsus, then theyre gonna get it on June 10th
  11. Ive slipped SP3 into my install sources and will apply it in WSUS in groups (usually 1 department at a time for large updates) the only reason I wont be pushing SP3 to a large group is i dont have a large enough flock of tech support monkeys to clean up after it if it bombs somehow. If you have a dedicated helpdesk that can CYA if something goes wrong, you could risk deploying to a larger group but as you stated there is no rush to get to SP3. unless you just wanna get your last XP service pack out the door
  12. This is becoming a FAQ around here. No. service packs are cumulative. always have been. if its XP Home/Pro you can apply SP3 to it regardless of what service pack it is.
  13. there is a thread for almost this exact issue one post down from yours in this forum. http://www.msfn.org/board/IE-isn-t-IE-t116927.html
  14. hmm sorry i missed that edit. i dont know what else you can try. have you tried the stuff in the slimming down section of the unattended guide? my experience is limited to the english version so i cant provide much help. have you considered burning to a dvd or using a RIS setup?
  15. ok lets go look for the cheapest card newegg has: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814141052 there you go. 25$ and it'll easily smoke a 5500 unless your still playing UT99 -nothing out performs glide on that game (but thats just because the d3d renderer sucked by comparison) or if you wanna go for the voodoo 6000 experience install this card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814130099 then buy one of these: http://www.cheappetstore.com/Reptiles/Rept...ng-Rock-152193/ thread the power cord through one of your PCI slots and plug it in thats about as close as your gonna get to Voodoo Volts
  16. Moved to nLite forum...

  18. yeah the term '2x AGP' does not mean 2 AGPs on the same board it means an AGP port that runs at 2x speed of the original speed of AGP. there are AGP 2x, 4x and 8x slots available. don't feel bad though -i never could get more than 51 CDs to fit into my 52X CDROM drive...
  19. the ISO image they provide at that URL is NOT Windows XP WITH SP3 its an ISO image of SP3by itself. its pretty pointless as it would be easier to just download the .exe and burn it instead.
  20. that is odd. you list of fixes should cover everything i can think of except copying the .DL_ file to the hard drive and pointing the installer there. other than that, im at a loss to explain it.
  21. http://www.vizeos.net/?page=about
  22. this is the only information MS has about replacement media http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=326246 i dont think they can provide you with replacement media only toshiba can provide you with media for that license easiest way would be to buy a xp pro/home license with media
  23. Um you guys know that this thread was started in 2003 right? and for the record DOS 6.22 = not a version of windows so therefore shouldn't be in a list of windows OSes Longhorn = Vistas codename Blackcomb = AKA Windows 7 [conspiracy mode on] but voting Longhorn up in this poll is rather pointless as everyone knows Windows ME was painstakingly designed to suck by master coders that wanted to make everyone to hate the 9x kernel. don't believe me? just think about it. 95, 98, NT, 2000, 2003, XP, Vista all got at least 1 service pack. Windows ME got none. this leads me to 2 possible conclusions: 1. Windows ME was so perfect it didn't require a service pack. or 2. Windows ME was exactly what MS wanted it to be. a miserable failure. [/conspiracy mode off]
  24. i missed your comment about the /a switch earlier based on that behavior i would try renaming/deleting this file: (word will recreate it) C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\Normal.dot (might have to turn on hidden files/folders to get there) if that doesnt work try cleaning out this folder: C:\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\Startup those are the 2 most likely culprits IMO but you can try the other things that are bypassed when the /a switch is used: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826857
  25. no iso program needed. just burn all the files back to the cd and your done. you are probably thinking of the XP slipstream process where you have to use an ISO program to make the cd bootable. office doesnt require this since you can't boot from the Office CD
