thats not a very constructive reply, FAT64 Ghoro it looks like most of your drivers on their site: http://support.asus.com/download/download....amp;mapindex=12 to install XP you will likely need to provide XP setup with the textmode sata driver or XP setup wont be able to see your hard drive. there are 3 ways to do that: Put the driver and its txtsetup.oem on a floppy and use that during setup (a usb floppy drive will work) add the driver to your XP install CD through Nlite (also possible to do manually) Load the driverpack masstorage from driverpacks.net I prefer method 3 but everyone has a different opinion on what easiest.

yours is better maintained so ill close this one. -
PS3. It may cost twice as much but at least you only have to buy it once.

Thats total BS. You are requesting hardware support for a product you purchased. Call back, politely explain yourself again, if that person is unable to help you, demand to speak to a supervisor or higher level technician, repeat until they wont hand you up the chain any further. Once you get there, tell the person you need them to send you an email stating that they refuse to support their hardware and encourage them to list the reasons why they cant help you. If you actually get said email, websites like http://consumerist.com/ would probably be interested in it. My guess is you just got a moron and if you make enough noise, inside their call center you might get to speak to someone that is intelligent enough to help you.

the Ctrl+Alt+Del thing was a minor annoyance for about 10 seconds until i figured out Ctrl+Shift+Esc was unchanged I imposed that restriction so this thread didnt get flooded with "OMG Oregon Trail (linked for the kiddos) doesnt run on Vista! -see that proves Vista is incompatible with every thing ever made!1" type posts. (For the record though it works fine though) if you have a recent program that is legitimately incompatible, please share it. but if the manufacturer has addressed the issue in a newer (free or lowpriced) version and you just refuse to upgrade, I cant categorize that as an incompatibility. However, Volatus may be pleased to see that I have added Nero 6 to the list after I discovered that there was a version released after the Vista RTM date which according to the rules, makes it subject to the list. Technically, it could be argued into the "Works, but with problems" category but as I stated before, modern versions of nero are pretty much crap and not worth the effort of arguing. GrofLuigi, i also added a bit about the HDtach compatibility issue as for the comments that Vista has too much extra junk in the trunk, yeah i have to agree. I replace IE with FF, WMP with VLC or more recently GOMPlayer, WLM with Pidgin, Burning Software with ImgBurn, RDC with MRemote, Disable defender, firewall, readyboost, sec center, sidebar, problem reporting and UAC and Im good.

cmon! thats a terrible impression of me. it was really more of a 'blah blah wooh woh woh wooh'. I would never type in all caps. I'm much too calm for that. you on the other hand, do seem to have some anger issues that you seem to take out on the capslock key from time to time. Im sorry if a offended you in some way I assumed you would not take offense to my observations but apparently I was wrong. If you go back and READ my post instead of skimming it, assuming im attacking you, engaging the capslock key and mashing the W, O and H keys you would see I was simply providing an alternative setup which as it happens doesnt fit your situation. I would have preferred you just explain the setup because with the network taken out of context it looks very much like a network run by a few people I know I refer to as 'garbage collectors' who never retire hardware from their home networks and have tons of extra unused hardware lying around eating up electricity. Admittedly their hardware is much older than yours (Pentium 1 series and lower) and most run old cli linux distros. The guys network is like a living PC graveyard. Yours appears to serve a purpose though.

I am from Tulsa, OK but somehow ended up in Warner, OK I'm cool until someone checks 'Windows Vista Home Basic Edition' in that section. No one should have to endure that mess (especially on the type of machine it usually ships on)

I recently closed this poll because the discussion became less and less relevant with every post. Despite what you might think, I hate closing threads and told myself at the time if I closed it and I didn't get 100 PMs about closing the previous poll, I would make an updated one within a few days if no one else did. there are a few changes though the previous poll had separate votes for XP Home/Pro so i wanted to split Vista into separate choices because I personally think that XP Home and especially Vista Home Basic should have never existed but I love XP Pro/Vista Business and higher. Unfortunately, this meant combining Business and ENT Editions into the same category. Please do not ask for me to add any other OSes to the poll they simply will not fit. as this is the largest poll the MSFN board will allow. All that said, please keep tthe discussion clean and keep Rule 7 in mind when posting: Da Rules

Ok Volatus this is seriously not a flame but I just got to looking and something occurred to me - hypothetically, 1 or 2 machines (Intel Q6700 with 6GB Ram or Core2Duo@2.6 each with 3GB) would have more power and memory than everything in your house (not counting the 2 laptops that don't have clock speeds listed) 600Mhz 1Ghz 1.7Ghz 600Mhz 300Mhz 400Mhz 1Ghz 2.2Ghz X 2 ---------- 10 Ghz 2.66 x 4 ---------- 10.64Ghz your combined ram is just short of 5Gb so thats why i said 6Gb (nice round number just for comparisons sake) Your electric bill has to be HUGE. I think if you turned off all those PCs for a few months your electric bill savings (both on the PCs actual consumption and increased air conditioning) would pay for a new rig (or 2 if you don't want all your power in one case). You could easily run XP 64 on it. Doesn't have to be Vista. /just sayin

Ok I'll agree with you on points 1 and 3 but do you seriously think that MS has a "desire to cause pain, injury, or distress" to you for using an older version of their products? If you do, Im afraid your paranoia level might be getting out of hand. http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/malicious http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/malice

****. I saw him in Salina, KS on October 10, 2006. I had been wanting to see him live for years. Me and a friend drove up from Ok one day and caught the show in KS and I'm glad I didnt put off seeing him any longer. He had lost a lot of his energy id seen from his recorded acts but he was still one of the funniest comedians I have even seen. That article sucked BTW. Focused too much on his drug use and barely mentioned his career. made him out to sound like a junkie. Surprisingly, CNN has a better one. http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/06/23/carlin.obit/index.html

ok first off, secondly, every version after Nero 3 is crap. ok ill add it to the top post. will run in compatibility mode. however i will add it to the list in a separate category.

or use vmware/virtualbox etc with a modern OS as the host environment to 98 this page makes me think thet EDS IV would run on XP but i dont know what it costs or if itll work with your hardware from version 3 http://www.melco-service.com/FAQs/Requirments/EDS_ENS.htm

just ran into this one the other day http://www.gomlab.com/eng/GMP_download.html just checked and 98 SE is on the support list. it might be your best option now that videolan say 98 isnt supported anymore (might still work though)

"It's an easy to use GUI to slipstream the DriverPacks into a 32-Bit Windows 2000, XP or Server 2003 source. Currently, "disc" (CD/DVD), "BartPE" Masstorage Plugin and "multibootDisc" platforms are supported." yeah when they say XP that usually means XP Pro and Home

yeah manufacturers have a tendency to mess with the BIOS and it never turns out too well. The only 2 logical reasons i can imagine and OEM wanting to disable BIOS options are: Prevent customers from frying their systems while under warranties (in which case they should provide an unlocked BIOS which voids the warranty IMO) Ive done phone support for an OEM before and ive had to talk a customers with an IQ slightly higher than pool algae through the BIOS before and was thankful for the limited options. The more you disable, the more you restrict your customers repair/upgrade options (if you build the perfect product youll only sell one to each customer mentality) the XP cd couldnt format the drive for the same reason you cant install to it right now. because you dont have the drivers for it. has nothing to do with Vista being on the drive.
