  1. Nitrosoxide13 - are you using the CD you have made on the Dell machine that the recovery disk came with? it may not work as some recovery disks use modied sources than what would be found on a normal XP OEM/retail CD. Further, it may be bios locked and other things so its something to consider when using a source from a Dell recovery CD. [and i think its been mentioned before so do try and search first before posting a thread] Regards Nath.
  2. I havent used .cab methods myself so I cant say what to do with them, but all i can say is that the method i mention is one way to "turn" a .reg into a .exe [it actually just wraps it as a self-extracting .exe and you set the command in the process to import the reg file - regedit /s nameofreg.reg - for example, but its slightly long winded for what u want to do] Regards Nath
  3. right... First off, just running MS Antispyware isnt enough for a complete spyware scan after your situation, as it doesnt pick up all spyware [plus if you havent already, get Windows Defender on it - its the new version of MS Antispyware]. You will need to use Spybot - Search and Destroy, Ad-Aware SE Personal and try some scanners like CWShredder and use with extreme caution HijackThis for possible ..er...hijacks lol Your problem could well be down to the fact that everything hasnt been cleaned - even if nothing appears to be wrong, but one tell-tale sign would be if you cannot keep the home page from changing back to about:blank. You may want to try Mcafee's latest version of their Stinger too - just in case something has modified the mcafee A/V installation. Try all of that and see how it goes - but be prepared for the fact that the amount of damage the viruses [general term] & spyware has done may be unrepairable, and even if it is repairable, it may be less time-consuming to get your docs, pics, and other data off the machine and wipe the HDD and install XP freshly. Another thing thats popped into my head is try running the System File Checker: sfc /runnow[/sfc]and see what that does, but i suggest you use the anti-spyware programs I've mentioned first to make sure the system is clean or anything else is pointless. Regards Nath
  4. um....sorry if i've missed it but u have tried starting the scheduler service right? open up the command prompt and try the following: net start "Task Scheduler" tell us what that gives you Perhaps you still have some stuff left on the machine - maybe not viruses but possibly spyware so use a few tools to check and clean for that also. [Visit my site in the link and get the programs i mention in the antispyware section ] Cheers Nath
  5. Are you using the CDImage GUI to create the bootable iso of the XP build? Check out the tutorial on MSFN regarding it: http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/15/ if so, check that you have the settings and paths correctly i.e. if the path to the boot.img included in the package isn't correct, it wont add the bootsector to the iso and you wont get a bootable CD. I've found it far easier using CDImage to create the iso than creating the CD and adding the boot sector with the writing software i.e. nero, NTI, etc... Regards Nath.
  6. @Mikep7779 Try using IExpress to "wrap" a .reg file that will execute it automatically would be a simple way to do it Cheers Nath
  7. ....and following on from Iceman... that in order to do this sort of process, you would need to own Ghost also. But there is plently of ways on here that make the use of a image system for your own single pc pointless - UA XPw with drivers slipstreamed & automated applications would serve you perfectly well. Imaging doesnt really bring anything new to the table for a single user and please refrain from discussing warez pls. Regards Nath
  8. Its perfectly fine for you to do that - but bare in mind that if you arent experienced with XP and installing devices, you may have "fun" trying to get everything as it once was. If you have a "restore CD" then it should be even easier as most are based on a image and the restore process will most likely put it back exactly as you got it. EDIT: Forgot to mention that if you have already just activated windows [or it was pre-activated for you] - then if you install windows and activate it again in a short space of time, you may get a error - but you should be able to call the MS hotline and activate it over the phone with no problems You, of course, may noy install XP on another other system though of course - the OEM license that you have with your pc is intended for the software to be used on that hardware, and only on that hardware. You can use the many differenent methods [found on this wonderful site ] to create a custom xp cd if you're feeling adventurous but bear in mind that you cannot give the cd you create to anyone else - and if you add your product key to the custom CD, it should only be used on that system. Bear in mind also, that modifying/hacking copyrighted files is technically illegal so if you are planning to make up a custom XP CD, its good to keep it in mind - and also think of your warranty with the computer you purchased. They "probably" wont be able to provide you with any sort of OS support if you have wiped the computer and installed your own customised XP CD. Hope that helps you out in whats what Please post back if you want to know anything else. Regards Nath.
  9. Hi all cant seem to uninstall the previous public beta [7.0.5296.0] - i think that ccleaner may be to blame there as it cleans out hotfix installers [or uninstallers depending how u look at it lol] Is there way to do it does anyone know, and if not, can u force the new one to install over the top of the current one at all does anyone know? Cheers Nath

    IE 7 Beta 2

did u check/remove for spyware before installing? if there was spyware in ur machine and hooked into IE, then it might have caused probs with the install perhaps. cheers Nath.
  11. I think they mean concurrent connections, not transfer bandwidth - but i could be wrong. i.e. only any 10 connections at a time instead of by bandwidth and if pos, have the feature only applicable to the folder where the files are located. You could also do this via php scripting - though i havent tried it myself yet. Cheers Nath
  12. DreamHost - cheap but not so cheerful then? When it comes to hosts, guess theres never a easy option - unless u r rich and have the money for dedicated server's lol Cheers and excellent job on your driverpacks dude Nath
  13. lol sounds about right. Bart - u are a new member? Thought you would have joined up a long time ago with your prowess of such stuff PS PEBuilder is awesome btw *makes a mental note to make another build* Cheers Nath
  14. lmao I thought that *was* the problem lol Horrizontally shouldnt have been a prob dude lol ;) Cheers Nath
  15. There's plenty out there for people starting to try making websites... bear in mind the age old sayings of "you get what you pay for though" and "dont leap before you can walk" and enjoy Nath.
  16. unless u use its own proxy server [that you connect to using that dial up number] it isnt going to work as thats the only way it allows the users to authenticate most likely... you'll probably need to discuss it with them, and if they dont give you a option around it, your best off looking for a alternative host. I had something similar happen to me - cud only use the webspace of my ISP [when i was on dialup] using the dialup up number for the internet. As i was dialup back then, it wasnt a problem until broadband came here and i couldnt use anything other than the dial-up number again - not fun. Basically - theres much better offers out there Regards, N.
  17. Thats not entirely true barradasba.... Providing the machine in question is on the same network segment - you can log into a share on the domain server. It should also aquire the IP address just by being on the same network too - depending how you have the DHCP server setup. But unless it is attached to the domain, thats pretty much all you can do with it. Regards Nath
  18. sheesh - its even more complex than what I thought you had meant lol there may be a way, but i think your best bet is to make a very basic .gif of: ________ __ __ ___ ___ ________ / _____/ ____ __ __| | _|__|/ | \\_____ \ / \ ___ / _ \| | \ |/ / / ~ \/ / \ \ ___ ___ ___ \ \_\ ( <_> ) | / <| \ Y / \_/. \ _ | . | _| . | \______ /\____/|____/|__|_ \__|\___|_ /\_____\ \_/ |_||___|_| |_ | \/ \/ \/ \__> |___| and use that with tables and / or layers. Cheers Nath
  19. Use CSS bud ;) EDIT: Ahhhh.... um...good question then..... Anyone else? lol Nath.
  20. durex - not sure if this is quite what you mean, but surely all you need to do [if your router supports it] is to utilize "port triggering" [or whatever the equivelent is in your router]. It works for me i.e. should me and a friend want to play the same game online on two computers for example. Regards Nath.
  21. I have sort of solved it by clearing the Administrator [the only user using the AD administrative tools] profile. Works fine, tho I logged into another workstation later that day and had the same problem - must have been the local cache of that computer with the corrupted profile. cleared it again and was fine for the rest of the day. I think I'll create a admin user on the side as a spare Cheers Nath.
  22. Hi guys Thanks for replying. @gouki: hehe yes mate - it is there. We are talking about multiple workstations and servers here. But just in case, I checked on the DC and is there... @roguespear: ...and the NTFS [file] permissions look fine. Those sort of permissions havent been changed i.e. its only me that can change them, and between the "was working fine" and "now not working" aspect, I havent adjusted any group policies that would affect me. Its really confusing and looks like I'm gonna have to tell management the bad news [something i really want to avoid if possible lol] and pay MS for a incident charge thing. Any more ideas really welcome asap tho Cheers Nath
  23. Hi all Its been a month or so back since I've had the following problem so if you know the answer, please let me know. When I try and open the Active Directory Users and Computers tool, I get the following happen: This happens on every computer I've tried - both server and desktop - and I cant seem to find a way to fix it. EDIT: Forgot to mention that I am the administrator and it doesnt work on the administrator account - so I cant see how it can be permissions btw Anyone have any ideas or have seen this before? I was trying out RIS which was the last time I used it, and I've tried installing the latest "adminpak" on both the server and workstations to see if that helps - which it hasnt so far. Any ideas would be very very useful. Nath
  24. Not had the pleasure of SBS - forgot about that but it is advised that you shouldnt run Exchange 2003 on a DC [minus Small Business Server 2003] if you can help it. I was very tired lol Thanks Nath.
  25. Hi there. Both puntoMX and nmX.Memnoch have given some sound advice. Just going to add my "two cents" to the topic too. Whatever you do, it is strongly advised [where possible] that if your looking to setup exchange in the organisation, that you have it on a seperate server to the domain controller. Cant remember the exact reasons behind this off-hand, but check out http://msexchange.org [hope that link is right] for more info and advice. While I found it pretty straight forward to set this all up myself, with little to no experience with servers - depending on your skills and knowledge - you might find it easy or very difficult to set all this up. To aid you with it, try and study up on all the aspects of it - as you dont mention what knowledge you possess on these aspects, its hard to know what to suggest [part of what the others were getting at too I think ]. Like its been said, it all depends how many users you are going to have on the system [try to look to the future amount of users - not just the current amount] and see in each role you want a server to have, how much usage each role will have. Few examples: application server = will applications be run continually off this or just every so often when needed? and when needed, will all the users be running them simultaneously or not? email/exchange server = will the users have they email box open throughout the working day or will they periodically check their email and close it? Also, will every user have an email account or just certain departments? etc. These type of things will help you see whether ypu need seperate servers for each role, or not, as the case may be. Hope that helps and regarding the website - depending on what you want from the website - you may find it easier to use external hosting instead of having to add more to the workload of setting this up and running it yourself. Theres numerous hosts out there but PM me if you think I can help you. All the best. Nath.
