  1. How old/new is your laptop boardbabe? Presumably you dont get any other problems with any other games right? because if you do, it could be a problem with the gfx chipset too [as with the one i have , some people have that problem with a dodgy gfx chip] http://www.notebookforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=135 [have a look at here - very cool place and they might have got some threads already for the problem you have] Cneers Nath EDIT: forgot to mention, have you used a can of compressed air to blow out the air vents / ducts? This can be a very useful thing to try as mine started playing up - but i did that everywhere i could - and things went back to normal. Of course, do this with the machine off
  2. Hi there I'm not sure how the external power block's heat would affect the actual console itself [as the heat from "that" brick has nothing to do with the freezing - so long as its providing the power to the console, then thats what matters] but it shouldnt be on a carpet really... fire hazzard ;) If the console is freezing, call Microsoft and get them to sort it - its only a console... you shouldnt need to open the case and install hardware to fix something that is covered by the warranty Regards and let us know what they say Nath

    Sony PS2

Well for one thing, have you used a Cat5e Crossover cable? ;) When connecting two PC's together "directly" [and the same with a PS2's then hehe] you have to use one of these cable. Get one of those cables and try that, and get back to us Cheers Nath
  4. You might want to take a look at: http://ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1812 also - as I believe you can probably replace the existing ._ files on the XP CD with ones in this package. can't say for sure but it might be one less guirunonce to run Regards Nath
  5. Hmmm.... looks nice Have you been to the creative forum's and/or contacted creative - you never know but they might be able to suggest something. Sorry i cant help though. Nath
  6. Have the same problem as above regarding the HP DX5150 machine - our's are the SFF type, not the MT versions. I've run the tool on it BTS.... Basically, if i slipstream the Mass Storage drivers - latest ones to date - and try and install from the UA CD, it blue screens with a 0x7 error i think. Basically leaving it out works fine - oddly as the system doesnt seem to require SATA drivers even tho the HDD is a SATA [confusing lol] Regards Nath.
  7. Ok. Thanks for the replies mate, and well done on a great service BTS Nath
  8. lzx files are compressed archives [another common one on the amiga is .lha]. If you're unsure what i mean, think of a zip file [or a .rar or .7z file - Winrar can unpack lzx files i believe just to let you know ] It will probably unpack a .adf disk image [or disk images] which you should then "insert" into WinUAE - in the "virtual floppy drives" Please remember that legally, you need to own the game [unless it is become classed as abandonware or has been "allowed" to be downloaded from the publishers/creators] and with the kickstart rom, you need to own the approriate amiga that has the rom that you have. I havent the time to explain more right now, but google any phrases i've used will probably help you understand what i mean Good luck Nath.
  9. Didn't get a chance to reply until now, but i tried the first suggestion about the media sensing "fix" and it seemed to have done the trick. Thats not to say that a driver fix/update might work, or like you suggest lightsout that by way of telling the nic to run as 100 instead of auto sensing. I think it "may" be down to the switch as the speed of the network does seem to a bit sluggish on all the machines attached to it - lucky i have a replacement ready to go in - just havent had the chance to fit it yet. Regards Nath
  10. Pretty much what my answer was going to be hehe tho i havent ever used it myself, ive visited a large amount of ZA installations - though I never can get my head around its interface [from lack of knowledge on the product i guess]. I'm not quite up on each package they provide, but they have one that is just a firewall and another that has a A/V built in. If you only have the firewall version, then get some A/V software too - i firewall isnt enough and if you have the one that has both - then thats fine, but like the previous poster says, you need to configure the exceptions properly - which is probably the most likely reason why you arent recieving your updates. Unless, it was working fine before the switch, and depending on your setup, you may have a different IP address now that you have switched your provider - so bear that in mind to when it comes to Zone Alarm. Good luck Nath
  11. Hi all I have on one of my machines got a slight problem... I have a Asus A7V600 motherboard that has a onboard 3com Gigabit LOM 3C940 LAN adapter. Using the driverpacks lan pack when I installed it earlier today, everything went through fine and dandy. Joined the domain, pulled some info down, logs on, maps drives, etc, etc.... Anyhow, I changed some GP's [to deploy some software to the machine on reboot - as you do] and i noticed that it wasnt working, despite it working fine on other machines. Just looked at the Event Log and i have various mentions like this one: The information that it points to is here: Cannot connect to domain controller and cannot apply Group Policy with Gigabit Ethernet devices and this describes the situation perfectly, as i also get interesting results when logging on to the machine [where profiles are concerned] etc. I'm going to try what it suggests first regarding How to disable the "Media Sensing" feature for TCP/IP in Windows but it then suggests: which is why I brought it up here [*finally* the people sigh hehe] as you may want to update the driver in your driver pack [i couldnt find one on the 3com website = so I've downloaded the latest one they have on the Asus website] Regards Nath
  12. You should add SpywareBlaster & Windows Defender to your list - two preventative programs as if it can get in your system, then it can hide. By using preventative software, you stop that thought - or at least - minimise the chance of it infecting. And remember that you need A/V software as well as anti-spyware software - presumably u have one installed [such as AVG Free Edition] but i thought I should mention it. Good luck with the ISP and let us know how you get on. Regards Nath
  13. Was thinking about mentioning that one - wish i had of now lol FYI... Make sure u only enable System Restore when you are confident that the machine is 100% free of infection btw And if you still are doubtful, start from fresh is always a good plan [like i have to now because i stupidly let CCleaner remove hotfix un-installations and now i cant remove the old IE7 beta ] Regards Nath.
  14. The ISP may block access to certain services & ports - although that seems a little paranoid for a ISP if they block things that Windows / Microsoft Update requires lol - so calling them is your best bet.... The other thought I have is that you may have got a virus or spyware infection at the same time as the change over, and it may be nothing to do with the ISP - but you will probably want to check on that too Regards Nath
  15. ....but bear in mind the computer's warranty [as opening it up may make your warranty invalid ] If its a computer thats 3 or more years old, you're motherboard could be failing also [or other parts of the machine]. Regards Nath
  16. mcallisb sums it up quite nicely - you have to use a XP Pro OEM [or possible retail] media CD in order to do what you are after. Using the XP [Pro] Volume Media CD would be illegal and even if it is possible, such things cannot be discussed on here. And as you may have guess, the product key on the bottom of the laptop will be a OEM key - so if you can borrow the media [and ony the media] from a friend, you should have no problem using that to install XP on your laptop. Regards Nath
  17. You log looks pretty clean - theres a few old entries still in there but nothing that seems bad [as the files are missing or dont point to anything]... It also suggests that you are still using Microsoft AntiSpyware and not Microsoft Windows Defender [which is the new version of Microsoft AntiSpyware] so you should uninstall the version you have installed, and install the new version that you can obtain from the Microsoft site. Update it and run it. CWShredder can in most cases will fix about:blank errors so do try that also. [both links are in my previous post] Again, if all else fails, find those Dell CD's, backup your data and start from scratch Regards Nath
  18. smashly - nicework, however you might want to check out http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?...ht=sysinternals and http://www.sysinternals.com/Licensing.html regarding the sysinternals tools you have in your package. It sucks but thought you might want to know. Regards Nath.
  19. U can also create a transform with orca - meaning u dont have to edit the msi Quite simple to use with a bit of playing - best to get stuck in there and try stuff out with it Cheers Nath
  20. hi Mizpah and welcome to MSFN. I think you'll find that its been discussed on here since its been out for a while, but check my sig out if you want a automated version Regards Nath
  21. whoops yes - i did forget to mention that you should update the a/v and anti-spyware programs as soon as they are installed [of course, with any sort of virus or spyware infections, you should not be connected to the internet to avoid reinfection while you're trying to disinfect. You can download the latest updates for spybot & ad-aware without the target computer being online but anyhow, i digress...] I would have continued adding my two cents - except i had to watch a film with my partner hehe - Crash - not a bad film but anyhow.... Be careful to get the right program as there are lots of "spoofed" programs out there - i know there is variants of spybot & Ad-Aware so when in doubt, get them from the creators site [tho i understand the trouble there is that if you dont know who made it, then you are going to have to guess etc hehe - but just use caution] - that is why i mentioned going to my site as I have links to the "proper" manufacturers site Right, here we go again: - Spybot - Search and Destroy - http://www.spybot.info/en/download/index.html - Ad-aware Personal SE - http://www.lavasoft.com/software/adaware/ - Microsoft Windows Defender [beta2] - http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/s...re/default.mspx - SpywareBlaster - http://www.javacoolsoftware.com [this one is a preventative one that *everyone* should have on their system] Visit http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html and download hijackthis from the Merijn.org link. Extract it and run it. Create a scan report and *attach* it here and i'll have a quick look at it and suggest some things to remove if ya like Also, get the standalone version of CWShredder from http://www.intermute.com/spysubtract/cwshr...r_download.html and run that - that can be handy in fixing some things. You may need to run this in Safe Mode tho. Regards Nath
  22. i think you were missing what I'm saying - but there are programs out there yes. try googling for stuff like bat2exe or cmd2exe which will convert a batch file to a exe. You might be able to find something similar for reg files too perhaps. Incidentally, i was taking about using this [http://greenmachine.msfnhosting.com/IEXPRESS/iexmdac.htm] for your reg files and follow the same process, except use the command [or something similar] that i mentioned in a previous post. Regards Nath.
