  1. Is the My Documents folder still open when you go to Shutdown your computer or have you closed all open windows?
  2. See my previous post for what you should remove.
  3. Do you have the My Documents window open when you shut down your computer?

You may also want to scan with HijackThis 2.0.2.
  5. Off the top of my head: Freewebs, Geocities, even Google has web hosting. Google is very useful for checking into your needs.
  6. Your best bet is to leave the services alone, they're set to their current settings for a very good reason. If you allow the program you're writing to "tweak" or "alter" the services, you'll have a lot of people come complaining to you about why Product X and Product Y doesn't work.

As trickytwista has said, please do not bump your posts. In doing so you only delay an answer and risk getting your thread locked and/or having your posting abilities restricted.
  8. Have you run any other scanners, such as Ad-Aware and Spybot? Also, have you run an Anti-Virus program yet? If not, download and install Avast, then do a boot-time scan after updating the program.
  9. Download Tweak UI. Under General, expand the treeview to show Focus. Click Focus and you should be able to alter the setting for taskbar flashing.
  10. You download games don't you? Every gamer is highly interested in all kinds of games, some of which can be gigabytes in size. I just recently downloaded Rappelz Epic 3 and Last Chaos, both over 1.6GB each. Heck, even some of the games I play have fanmade videos which are almost always 100MB+. I've got a friend in a CS 1.6 clan who makes the videos of their scrims and they're extremely good, but also about 200MB-300MB.
  11. I prefer the Firefox Add-On called DownThemAll.
  12. Patching tcpip.sys is unwise... most people don't understand what the limit even means. I've never been limited by it, ever. People patched tcpip.sys and spread it around as an enhancement when it does nothing but allow you to destroy Winsock that much faster. How's that an enhancement? I don't know... The thing is, it's pretty hard to hit ten at the same time. It's not as if the half-open connections stay open very long. They time out fast enough that it never happens. If you just hit ten invalid IP addresses at the same time and they're all half-open, maybe you should consider stopping whatever it is you're doing. SP2 imposed a limit of ten on the amount of half-open stalled outbound connections. When the limit is reached, an event is logged. The reason they did it is to curb the payload of viruses/etc, so when you end up with port scanning trojans, etc. they would be stopped. The statistics that came back after they did this proved that it was a wise move. People think it's going to affect their P2P somehow and it doesn't. All of the addresses are valid and ones that end up half-open close pretty quickly. Sadly, even Shareaza believes in this FUD. It warns you that your experience won't be as good because of the limit. So they released this "patched" tcpip.sys to remove the limit and say it's a "tweak". So yeah, if you get infected, welcome to 65535 half-open connections. Enjoy your Winsock.
  13. It's not malware of any kind, no need to worry there. Vibrant is a form of advertisement that helps MSFN. This is a free site and those advertisements help fund MSFN and keep this wonderful site going. For AdBlock Plus users, show your support and right click on AdBlock Plus and click Disable on www.msfn.org. Remember, by blocking the advertisements on MSFN, you're also blocking funds that help keep MSFN going strong.
  14. Agreed 100%.
  15. I've seen this for many websites. When you Google MSFN you get Enter the Forums, Creating an Unattended Windows CD, Search, MSFN Guides and more indented below (screenshot attached of what I mean). I've been trying to figure out how this is done but I'm not sure how to do it or what it's called. Screenshot: MSFN on Google Any and all help is welcomed and appreciated.
  16. Microsoft on Tuesday took the wraps off what it calls version 1 of its new Malware Protection Center Portal. The site offers a malware encyclopedia for investigating threats, downloads of Microsoft's latest antivirus and anti-spyware signatures, listings of the top threats and other tools. In addition, Microsoft has begun publishing a Security Intelligence Report that provides an in-depth look at software vulnerabilities. The effort to create the site comes as part of Microsoft's initiative to make its security division more open and public-facing. In addition, the company is encouraging customers to upload samples of files they think are infected, which could aid in protecting others. Feedback on the site can be sent to Microsoft here. Link: Malware Protection Center Portal Removed ---- This is definitely going to be very useful for a lot of people.
  17. It's definitely these companies outsourcing support. You're not the only one who has had problems with bad support.
  18. True. Perhaps TweakUI could fix that, or a freeware context menu editor. Even CCleaner might find the registry key.
  19. Again, scan with the recommended virus scanner. Also, please do not bump your posts.
  20. Retry Dial-a-fix. Click Flush Software Distribution, then click No on the message that appears. Also, click the green checkmark and click Go.
  21. Welcome. You'll have to teach me how to post on the frontpage.
  22. Trend Micro HijackThis is a free utility that generates an in depth report of registry and file settings from your computer. HijackThis makes no separation between safe and unsafe settings in its scan results giving you the ability to selectively remove items from your machine. In addition to this scan and remove capability HijackThis comes with several tools useful in manually removing malware from a computer. Download: HijackThis 2.0.2 (*.exe, 396KB) | Download Page Source: Lunarsoft.net
  23. The cursors from Vista work just fine though, they're not bad at all.
  24. You can learn about Windows Updates Downloader here and from the official website found here.
