xper, I still have the blank named user under Pending Friends.
-
Blanky added me as a friend on April 28th and I have been unable to Refuse & Remove. I simply get an error. Anyone else having this issue?
-
These are my top two picks in no particular order.
-
I believe the latest version of Dial-a-fix will resolve this issue.

Avoid ZA like the plague. It causes far too many problems. -- This information is based on numerous user reports and personal experiences as well.

Microsoft's Self-Contradicting OPK Help Files
Tarun replied to betamax's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Moved per member request. Sorry I cannot offer much help betamax, I never really work much with unattended CDs but I know you'll get excellent help. -
I'll be wearing my Virginia Tech shirt for sure this friday.

The shooter was a disturbed individual from all I've heard. Apparently he wrote several papers that were so disturbing they were handed over to the proper authorities. They believe this may be why the shooter was seeking retribution. This Friday is a remembrance day for all those involved in this horrific tragedy. Everyone is asked to wear the Hokies (maroon and orange) colors to show support and to honor all those involved in this incident.

what are good Vista anti-malware programs?
Tarun replied to MarkJohnson's topic in Malware Prevention and Security
Spybot S&D works well with Vista. -
I would avoid ZoneAlarm and similar ZoneLab products like they are the plague. Numerous users have countless issues, Internet slowdowns and much more. I too recommend Comodo.
-
I too would avoid Norton products as though they are the plague. However, if you insist on using this; use Dial-a-fix to resolve your issue.
-
Good to see you got it resolved oh fearsome "Lord of the Underworld". Enjoy your stay!
-
I would avoid hijackthis.de, as it is an automated log analysis and can flag things that are completely safe. Since your issue is related to a Symantec product, try using SymNRT.

It's limited to your computer/household, not anything here on MSFN. There is no error with the forums, and from everything said I again reiterate that it sounds to be your system. Perhaps the lack of updates or some modifications gone bad. "Win2k SP2 (modified)" says enough to me that the fact you are on Windows 2000 SP2 and it is modified is more than likely where the problem is located. Viable solutions: Update to Windows 2000 SP4. Get every update, both High Priority and Optional. If you are unable to update through Windows Update, use AutoPatcher 2000. Avoid using modifications in the future if you are not 100% sure of what they do and what they will change. Avoid changing/disabling any services. This makes it much harder for technicians to help you diagnose what the issue is and how to properly resolve it. Should you need assistance in resolving the issue effecting your computer, please feel free to post in the Windows 2000 section of the forums. You will get a fast response and numerous solutions to your issue. Thank you.

Since you're setting up an Unattended Windows CD, I can move this thread from Windows XP to the Unattended Section if you like. Just let me know.

You should be able to find what you're looking for here: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\TrayNotify

BenoitRen, calm down and keep this discussion civil. If need be, please read the Forum Rules. Remember to respect MSFN's members and respect that everyone has a different opinion. ----- Windows actually is the most secure OS. Be sure to check the frontpage news sometime. There have been studies by Symantec and others that have found Windows, and even Vista, to be more secure than Red Hat Linux and Mac OSX.

I too agree with the Clean Install/fresh start. Use Belarc Advisor to get your keys and for backup tips. It will be very beneficial.

Permissions can help if you have to share your computer with friends or guests. This can help stop malware and other baddies from infecting and rendering your computer useless. It is also very useful should you expand to a home network. There is no degrading in performance or resources. None whatsoever. In actuality, your disks will read/write about 10 times (or more) faster. I have personally repaired drives that have gone bad and had NTFS on them. You can still make backups easily, including drive images. There are tons of tools (including freeware tools) that can help you fix and recover any NTFS errors you encounter. Even the XP cd can help you fix the issues. NTFS does not fragment easily at all. Yes, it still fragments. All drives will fragment regardless of what file system you have. FAT32 doesn't pay as much attention to the files and order as NTFS does. There are many benefits from running NTFS that will greatly speed up your computer. You can easily replace files in Safe Mode, there are even programs that will automate the process for you. You actually can do everything you want in safe mode. If you're running a boot disk doing a drive scan, use NTFSDOS Pro from Winternals. There's also NTFS4DOS which is freeware found here. I've never had a problem formatting a drive, though I always put NTFS on. If there was a customer running FAT on their XP machine, I'd convert it since they complained about how slow it was. Clocking boot time before was four to five minutes (from power on to usability). After was under two. FAT is inefficient due to cluster size, speed, lack of security, does not support Unicode, no support for long file names, low fault tolerance, no recoverability and much much more. You can read our sticky topic Introduction to Anti-Malware and Cleaning. Use Ad-Aware, Spybot, SpywareBlaster, avast and a few other items that can be found in my Anti-Malware package (Pro recommended). [ Moved to Malware Prevention and Security ]
