  1. Have you tried restarting the modem?
  2. What is your setup? Are you behind a router? Are you on a wired or wireless connection?
  3. Hi lazypau, Please read this thread, follow the directions and then repost your log. The scanners packages usually detect and remove a majority of known malware.
  4. This isn't the best AV by far, but it may help and it's portable. Portable ClamWin
  5. It would actually depend upon the nature of the virus itself.
  6. There's a possibility Norton is locking/preventing drive access. Believe me when I say you're better off without Norton. It may be reporting a virus, but it hasn't removed it. So it's not serving its purpose. As I said, use Avast to scan the drive and get rid of Norton.
  7. One great step forward is to trash Norton. Be sure to uninstall it and then run SymNRT. Then use Avast to scan the drive.
  8. Looks fine here on Fx 2.0.0.8, Opera 9.24 and IE7.
  9. Sorry, Windows Defender don't support Windows 2000! At the time of the post, it was working with Windows 2000.
  10. If you have a legit key for the beta you would be able to install and run the SP3 beta. Since you are unable to by your own admission, you're stating that you did not get it from TechNet/MSDN and thus did not acquire it through legal means. [ Closed ]
  11. Happy Birthday!
  12. Surprised no one caught this but your examples are wrong. .NET Framework is totally optional, and the Firewall service. Well, that service was named Internet Connection Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing in Service Pack 1a. In Service Pack 2 it was renamed to Windows Firewall. The entire quote segment above, can you provide legitimate sources?
  13. You said your machine was infected, do as the thread link I posted to you said in the other post then repost your HijackThis log.
  14. Plus UAC is similar to a firewall. A bit noisy at first, but as it learns it quiets down a lot.
  15. Please read this topic There's a huge part of your problems. You're using Norton. ZoneAlarm causes a lot of problems, more than it's worth. SymNRT - run this to get rid of Norton after you uninstall it. Also uninstall ZoneAlarm and instead use Comodo Firewall.
  16. You should check your System Event logs to see what was slowing the computer's shutdown process. Be sure to post it.
  17. I agree with Fungus, a lot of the PC Tools brand software is junk. Spyware Doctor is false positive city.
  18. These two wiki pages should help to answer your questions: http://wiki.lunarsoft.net/wiki/PC_Maintenance http://wiki.lunarsoft.net/wiki/PC_Security
  19. The ones on Lunarsoft that I recommend are a collection of freeware. They include SpywareBlaster, Ad-Aware, Spybot, Windows Defender, and a few other nice utilities.
  20. I would use the top recommended freeware, you can't go wrong there.
  21. Just using Firefox isn't going to stop you from getting infected, and if you're already infected it certainly won't cure it. There are free preventive measures you can take to protect your computer. That would be using programs like SpywareBlaster and having a Real-Time monitor like Windows Defender.
  22. Boot into Safe Mode and choose Last Known Good Configuration. Topic moved to correct forum.
  23. Moved to Site & Forum Issues.
  24. Scanning the system with anti malware tools and then doing an sfc /purgecache will also help.
  25. Clear your cache and cookies, log back in and then set it to Standard.
