1. That's quite a lot but I will do some of them soon. I like especially the "Powered by Windows 98" and "Supercharged Windows 98"... I'm sure you can take care of that ! PM me if you need help.
2. When you'll answer my PM... !!!Seriously, I'm getting tired of waiting for a reply... Basically the error was about an invalid parameter. I didn't spend time to figure out where the error came from since the original 82.69 worked. I'll still try to install manually if you want but just not right now since I've had trouble trying to use DVI display (windows fails to start half the time and chooses unsupported frequencies...) and everything seems to work fine since two reboots. I don't believe the error can be language specific since it says invalid command. Do you think it worth the effort to change the language value in the setup.ini or even mod the executable just in case ?
3. I'll try to make an avatar... But maybe smaller then since not all forums allow big images.
4. I confirm. It's standard. You just need less screws. The only drawback is that you have less PCI ports.
5. This RAM cooler looks nice! I didn't know this kind of stuff existed.Makes me wanna get one too ! (like my case isn't blue enough...)
6. Hi hybrid125 ! According to the M$, you cannot sell licenses without the computer there were on the first time. You might wanna read this article. This is an interesting part of intellectual property you know... But really, you probably shouldn't worry. Tons of OS licences are being sold on the net everyday. Ebay seems to be fine with this as long as you sell a piece of hardware in the same time (like an old RAM slot...) for exemple. Have you ever used your licenses or are they brand new (just without a media) ?
7. Thanks Tihiy for submitting those terrific widescreen drivers. Even more thanks to the author! It works perfectly and it's just in time for my new 16/10 flatscreen PS: MDGx, your pack failed to install (invalid command)
8. Get a german version of the executable (from M$ updates or elsewhere). Go to the mentionned offset and check the ones surrounding. Finally, compare them to your own exe (find the same data). If you find the same hex data, there's a good chance this is what you have to modify. Don't know if I was clear?
9. Just to mention that I've never been able to use more than 1 gb of RAM on my system even using all kind of tricks to limit the size that Win98 can recognize. So really, as BenoitRen said, it really depends of your config. Try and see. As for your graphic card, try Zak's drivers or 82.69 drivers avaible here. PS: if you're afraid of losing functionnalities over XP, just make a dual-boot with both systems. That's what I do (XP for latest programs that needs it/98 for everyday use). You'll see how fast win9x really is.
10. At swgreed request, I've added german versions of the Win9x userbars. Immer noch windows 9x freunde! I've updated the list a few posts above. I also made a "happy windows 9x user": Have fun!
11. Are you (and Xeno86) talking about what I know as UMS and MTP ?Basically, MTP needs a specific program to use the MP3 player whereas UMS makes it a standard USB device, recognised as such by Windows and NUSB... I'm gonna search references about MTC/MSC...
12. Actually, I just checked the .inf file and wide screen resolutions don't seem to be supported (at least not the one I'm interested in) ! For exemple, to support 1440x900 (native resolution for 19 inches widescreens), the following lines are missing: HKR,"MODES\8\1440,900",,,"60,70,72,75,85,100,120,140,144,150" HKR,"MODES\8\1440,900",ModeRefreshRateList,,"60,70,72,75,85,100,120,140,144,150" HKR,"MODES\16\1440,900" HKR,"MODES\16\1600,900" HKR,"MODES\32\1440,900",,,"60,70,72,75,85,100,120" HKR,"MODES\32\1440,900",ModeRefreshRateList,,"60,70,72,75,85,100,120" This is probably the same for higher 16/10 resolutions. Can you please take care of that ? Thanks.
13. In the .inf really? I'll look closer. Yeah, that's what I meant : 1280x720, 1440x900 and so on...So they'll work? Great !!! Thanks
14. This looks really nice ! I hope I had a nice Nvidia PCI-e card to test... This is based on recently released 82.69 right? So does it support widescreen resolutions too (1400x900 for example) ? Thanks a lot !!!
15. The file RNA.PWL is supposed to countain your dial-up password. If you don't use dial-up then, you must have installed some dial-up update. Nothing to worry about in this case...
16. On forums I found, lots of %$#* XP fans just think it's great news (WTF do they care?). Soon, they're gonna complain because Valve decided to drop XP support in favor of Vista... The worst thing about all this is that there will probably be no technical reason to end this support. You paid for games on 98 and now you can't use them anymore... That's exactly why I hate systems like Steam. Tomorow, they close business and boom! Nobody in the world can play Valve games. Besides, the principle to ask an online server when you wanna play offline is beyond me... And you don't even pay less fo your games, even without a box and the right to do what you want with it !!! Anyway, if the limit is artificial, maybe we'll be able to take it off, or KUP will take care of it!
17. You'd have today's military equipement but for the rest...it clearly doesn't match what you want. It's a really good solo game but barely distracting in multi.Maybe someone will make a "modern weapons" mod for C&C3... Yeh but...not really soon. You didn't answer me, what about ARMA ?Ok, I'm getting back to JA2...
18. Nice initiative Offler. I'll try to participate. Quicktime Alternative Version: v1.56 (not newer) Type: Codecs Kup: no Link : http://www.mpegx.com/view.php?detail=2362 Comment: Now you can play Quicktime movies with WMP or your favorite video player. Newer versions don't support Win9x Realtime Alternative Version: v1.52 Type: Codecs Kup: no Link : http://www.mpegx.com/view.php?detail=2202 Comment: Now you can play Realtime movies without installing Real player. Civilization IV Version: all Type: Game Kup: No Comment: Supposed to be XP/2k only but it works fine under 9x (based on python). (You only get bad looking icons on desktop if you don't use RP Lite but who cares...)
19. I've put the links for mine on this post from the "Still alive campaign" thread. To use it, right click on the banner you want and save the link. Then copy this in your signature and change the "LINK" part to the banner link you just saved: Glad to see more people liking and using them! 20. a 8800? I want one !! Anyway, here's my (main) buddy: I used to have plain grey boxes and...I got fed up of it! So, when I had to buy a new case, I took great care of all the outside of the PC. And in the same time, I tried to reduce the noise to the lowest level. - Superflower SF-561T2BL Case (impossible to find now...must have bought the very last one in europe) - Led Coolermaster fans (8cm -front- / 12cm -back-) - Led Zalman fans (GPU+CPU) - Forton 400watt power supply - Akasa Fan monitor - Special silver pannel for my DVD-writer - Special led lights for molex plugs - Round IDE cables that glow in the dark The inside is quite complicated... The goal was to be able to use Win98 (for everyday use and older games) + WinXP (for newer games), so, I took a mobo with both AGP and PCI-e ports to enjoy the latest graphic cards on PCI-e and keep backward compatibility with 98. - Asrock 939Dual-Vsta - GeForce 6200 AGP (used by Win98) - x800GT PCI-e (used by XP) (maybe a nice little 7900 or even 8800 soon...) - Athlon 64 3800+ - Creative 5.1 soundcard - Lots of hard disks ... I'm satisfied. It's quiet, I can use both 98 and XP, play latest games and...I can finally show my PC in the room. No need to hide it anymore!
21. Morrowind? NeverWinter Nights 2? You could play older 2d games too if you don't miss the FPS part too much (Planescape Torment, Baldur's Gate...) On the contrary, if you're a FPS fan, try Stalker. Definitely not heroic-phantasy but you might like it. Oh and, is Gothic 3 nice? (Didn't have the chance to try it)
22. Using an hexeditor, look for the offsets O904E404 (english -> 1033 I think) and change them to match your LCID (compare to an original file if you don't know what it is). ...UPX maybe?EDIT: Think I didn't get your question. Actually, if that was what you asked, you can unpack AND pack files using the command line tool "UPX", which can be found here: http://upx.sourceforge.net/
23. Once more, thanks to the anonymous author of the patch and to you MDGx ! : Made a french translation. You can download it here: win9x4ever.online.fr
24. Man, I wish I had a nice little 7950gt to test this out ! Thanks for those babies! By the way, about widescreen support... I have quite a few questions. Can those drivers diplay the desktop with a wide (but not stretched) resolution? Or do the screen drivers take care of that too?
