  1. If you use firefox, you don't need to allow WMP throught your firewall to watch videos. I'm thinking the site you're visiting can only check if you allow it to connect / if you use IE that reveals almost everything about your computer. Anyway, I looked in my registry and I found WMP entries in [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer]. There's a SetupVersion "6.4", a PlayerVersion "6,4,9,1125" that you could try to modify to spoof the WMP. Check on somebody that has WMP 9.
  2. Do you use IE? Is WMP allowed to connect the net (options, firewall)? I'm asking you since with Firefox and WMP 6.4 not allowed to connect, I've never seen such messages while watching videos online...
  3. No ACPI options in CMOS? That sucks! Hmm... If you can't turn it off from the BIOS, maybe from Windows? A post from Tihiy that I can't find anymore explained how to disable ACPI in Win. Here's the reg entries [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Detect] "ACPIOption"(dword)=2 If that doesn't help then I don't see what you can do. Does reinstalling Win98 ends up the same way everytime ?
  4. Well, it seems it sees setupx.dll as damaged. Maybe for some reason eXeScope broke the file. Try again with ResHack (if it's not a 16 bits file, I can't remember) or try to hex-edit it. Sorry, I can't answer for personnal reasons. Maybe someone else will be able to help you.
  5. No. Rev Pack replaces lots of essential files. Restoring the registry will only make things worse. You would need to get all the files that have changed and replace them by original ones (shell32.dll, user.exe...) Try to unpack the Rev Pack 3.6 and list what files it installed.
  6. DOS = MS-DOS. Go to "start", "shut down" and finally "restart in ms-dos"... If you want more info about stuff like that, Wikipedia is always a nice place to check.
  7. Revolutions Pack 3.6 is way outdated! Where did you find it? If you just delete the files, you'll be unable to boot. Do what Awergh told you: "to restore, [...] you need to go to dos and type 'restore'" If that doesn't work and you didn't save... you're good to reinstall. Well, if you're sure everything is lost, you *could* try to install a new version on top of it...
  8. Look here: Product Type of Windows 95/98/98SE/Me
  9. Oups. My fault. I didn't see "laptop". For the rest I was thinking about your BIOS. Does it lets you take care of IRQ assignement / ACPI enabling/disabling? If it does, you could try to assign IRQ manually in BIOS and reinstall 98 from scratch.
  10. You could try to disable ACPI completely (sometimes it creates more problems than it solves) and then move your card to a different PCI slot. Sometimes this changes the IRQ assignement.
  11. Maybe you'll wanna check here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=84886
  12. Once more, thanks Maximus! Just translated it to french. Download is here : win9x4ever.online.fr
  13. You've got to be kidding me ! Nusb 3.0 in french since two days ago? I just spent hours translating it... s*** ! Well, guess now there are two localizations around... You might still wanna try mine if you need to keep user.exe and so on as french versions : download at rapidshare.com Anyway. Thanks Matze for your (fast) translation.
  14. It's possible to install Vista on a Fat32 partition. This is a good thing for us. If we ever need to install this crap and 9x, we'll be able to share files between the 2 systems. Just thought I'd share this with you since jasinwa's post made me think about the problem (thanks for giving me the idea to look around man). Check here on how to do it: http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?sho...mp;#entry119093 http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=10184
  15. One more question... : Is VC++ able to edit resources in 16 bits LE files as well (vxd, 386)?
  16. You're right... Win9x means more than 98: 95 OSR2 or Me are other great choices. But the question was about 98. Anyway, just pick the one you prefer, they still have a lot in common. Win9x for ever !!!
  17. Wow. all those updates... You've been working a lot! Thanks for all your hard work!
  18. I'm sure there's nothing specific, they just decided not to care about older systems. Soon, you'll probably get vista-only software that won't even run on 2k/xp... Try with KUP. You never know.
  19. Well, using punctuation, capital letters, leaving some blanks and stuff... Just so people can read it more easily. Nothing too bad anyway, your last post is fine. Obviously, for us, Win98 is the best OS from M$. It's fast, light, safe and lets you have a full access to your computer.Try to see if you can find a 98 driver for your turntable. You never know. And good luck with that pc!
  20. Open "my computer"/"explorer" (like you did to go to the disk root). Then use "ctrl"+"alt" to highlight the "file" menu. Use the arrows to move to "display"(? not sure in english). Select "Folders options" (?). Once you're in there, use "tab" to switch between items and select the display tab. Finally, using "tab" again you'll be able to check the option you want with "space". And next time, try to write your posts in a readable form.
  21. True and it's a really usefull app but as I mentionned, it's not very handy nor stable so it's nice to have an alternative.
  22. Well, Civ really isn't the same kind of games but hell yeah! It's d**** good! I remember the first game I bough for my brand new 486dx2-66: Civ1! And I still play it! Personnaly, I didn't like Civ2 ...but Civ3 and Civ4 rule! If you want modern fights, you'll have more units and tactic choices with Civ4. This is probably THE best strategy game ever made but clearly, it wasn't designed for multiplayer (too slow, looks like playing chess by mail...) While I think about it, here"s a FPS you might like for MP: "Armed assault" (but you probably heard about it already).
  23. I especially liked the " know better than most of us what the majority of gamers want". Well, seems your experts don't know so much what gamers want... The PS3 doesn't quite goes like they expected... "Experts" tend to do what they have seen working and not imagine new concepts. It's nice to see Nintendo stand up for gameplay instead of just pure power that serves always the same kind of games. I'll be out before this turns into flame war again. PS: FPS on console? I feel like you Tanthalas. Usually no way! But on the Wii, it reminds me of those ol' "lethal enforcer" feeling added to the PC FPS gameplay! Cool.
