  1. Not at all. I could even justify it, but it would be totally off-topic and, to be honest, the obvious doesn't really need to be justified.

  2. No. Taking quotes out of context to interpret or emphasise what the quoter wants to have confirmed is a no-go. Think of Pippi Longstocking! And Caesar had turned many people against him.

  3. When quote me, please at least quote the main subject in full. I wrote [GitHub] may allow Russians to steal members' intellectual property because Russians have a law allowing their citizens and businesses to do so. Where does Github write they only act accordingly to the US laws, I just saw "any" laws, it's a bad game of guessing, assuming, etc, It needs to be written in plain text.

  4. for @66cats. In other, very simple words, the alleged American company Github declares it can prosecute members using any laws, For example, prosecute a member from Canada using Russian laws. EDIT. I'd never join such website.

  5. Microsoft has no jurisdiction over Canada and/or Australia. Win32 already explained (with the links to the laws, look for the post at his account), modifying isn't prohibited in Canada. Neither of us ("TINY userbase") reside in the US, so we don't actually care.

  6. They send it via inbox at github, that would be my guess since I don't have an acc. there. Probably they even have a warning system, also.

  7. The files are in the User Data\Default folder. Passwords are in the 'Login Data' file. The Cache is in the 'Cache' folder, not surprisingly! I don't know where cookies are stored, but I'm sure a quick Google search (other search engines are available) will tell you. If Thorium is much slower using the user data from 360Chrome than it was before, try disabling all the extensions and see if it speeds up. You may have had extensions in 360Chrome which don't play well with Thorium. It took me a bit of tweaking to get that right, but using the 360Chrome data was a good starting point, and all my bookmarks and saved password data carried across fine.

  9. Well if you are talking about Github and the laws. One thing is what they declare and the second thing is the reality and what they really force and remove. I will not post the links as it is not allowed here, but there is multiple software hosted on Github allowing to bypass the protections and the licenses of various commercial software and allowing the people steal it. And it’s there hosted for ages. Like 7 years for example and that was of course before the new Russian law and looks like nobody cares at all. That’s imho little bit strange and I got a feeling from that, they don’t have the same meter for MS and/or other big companies stuff and the rest.

  10. First and foremost, it's not off-topic, github declares it. Read their terms of service. https://docs.github.com/en/site-policy/github-terms/github-terms-of-service What is it exactly you don't understand? They can't use "any" laws. Evidence is they they took down the Kernel project and their open statement in the terms. "2. We have the right to refuse or remove any User-Generated Content that, in our sole discretion, violates any laws or GitHub terms or policies. User-Generated Content displayed on GitHub Mobile may be subject to mobile app stores' additional terms."

  11. Self-evident is another very important matter, and I quote. "2. We have the right to refuse or remove any User-Generated Content that, in our sole discretion, violates any laws or GitHub terms or policies. User-Generated Content displayed on GitHub Mobile may be subject to mobile app stores' additional terms." In light of the fact I posted yesterday, about the Russian government that has officially legalised intellectual property theft and made it a law. In the quote above, Github declares it may act on any laws, not only US laws, so it may allow Russians to steal members' intellectual property, and those members can't do anything about it, they had been warned, and accepted github terms. For example, Russians write to github and demand them to open up someone's work, or take it down. But if a Russian member hosts stolen property on github, it's all according to their "law", so all is "fine". Sources: https://docs.github.com/en/site-policy/github-terms/github-terms-of-service https://ipwatchdog.com/2022/03/16/russian-businesses-can-now-legally-steal-intellectual-property-unfriendly-countries/id=147528/

  15. In this weird modern World, it doesn't work the way you assume. The US hosts a super large portion of openly anti-American population, most of them aren't even citizens, they broke all the laws, yet they aren't deported, they are even subsidised. It's the same with the github since they are an American entity, they resonate on the same (current) agenda frequencies. Also, regarding github, github works for the international market, they can't just throw away whomever they don't like. Or they would've needed to implement the only US members demand.

  16. Wow! I've been out of the vintage Windows scene for awhile, and last I knew, the best, most "modern" browser was the Chinese Extreme360 that was hacked to display in English and remove all/most if the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) spyware and other similar junk. This Supermium, in principle, seems much better however, in the sense that it's a maintainable and reproducible port of Chromium, so the source code is available, unlike Extreme360, which is closed source. Last I knew, this was thought to be either impossible or prohibitively difficult, so I'm glad there was finally a breakthrough, as a native Chromium port seemed to be the most viable path forward, given that even the latest ports of the various Firefox-derived browsers have fallen increasingly out of date and/or are not working super reliably anymore as bugs and half-broken features begin to pile up. While in general I loathe to use Google Chrome and reluctantly use the open-sourced Chromium only when absolutely necessary, I will definitely consider giving Supermium a try, at least on my Windows XP, Vista and 7 machines. c

  19. I am trying to replace 360Chrome with Thorium as the default browser on my Windows XP installation. Neither browser has a native in-built mechanism to do this of course. I did it with 360Chrome by editing the necessary registry entries, and it has always worked fine since I did that, opening the HTM and HTML files from Windows Explorer, and opening links in e-mails and documents. I'm now trying to replicate that with Thorium, but I've run into a puzzling problem. I've managed to get files to open in Thorium absolutely fine, but what I cannot get working is the opening of links in e-mails and documents. I've been through the registry entries, and everything looks OK, but when I click on a link in an e-mail message say, Thorium opens but it's badly malfunctioning. Immediately I get two pop-ups telling me that two extensions have crashed (Trusteer Rapport and uBlock Origin). All the other extensions seems to be OK. More seriously, if I try to open any tabs, even internal ones like the settings, they immediately crash, with 'Error code: 0xC0150004'. This is one of those useless codes which just tells you that something went wrong, without telling you what the problem actually was! The registry entry which controls what opens when links embedded in messages are clicked seems to be (for HTTPS) HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\https. If I change the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\https\shell\open\command entry, the program which opens changes. At the moment it's set to run 360Chrome, which opens and works fine. If I put the equivalent string in to run Thorium, it opens but malfunctions as above. Putting exactly the same string into the 'Run' box and running it works perfectly! Has anyone any clue what's happening here? This makes no sense at all to me!

  20. Its a shame, someone goes out of their way to provide an extended kernel for free for people that want to use an older os for whatever reason they have, then someone else says: nope, you won't do that It hurts even more because thats not just a file that we can find on some obscure corner of the internet again and be happy, thats a maintained project that sadly cannot just stop on one version Actions like this just discourages people even more, imagine you work on something in your free time and then you have to deal with morons that don't want your project to exist

Nvidia tells, it has driver for it, not works. May be, that it is also a very easy hack for the Device ID in nv4_mini.sys..

  22. FWIW, I just use the latest standard Google Chrome on Windows 10. I used to use Firefox there, but Chrome has the big advantage that it now syncs with my installations of Thorium and Supermium on XP, which is great! This would not of course be a configuration that anyone concerned about privacy would want to use, but it's fine for me. @DrWho3000 If you want to use Thorium on Windows 10 that's your choice of course. I assumed you'd already done it, but if you haven't, you need to find Thorium's User Data folder, which should be in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Thorium (I think, I don't keep it there!) Rename it in case you have to restore it, to say 'User Data Old'. Then find the equivalent User Data folder for 360Chrome, which again should be in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\360Chrome. Copy and paste the whole User Data folder to where the Thorium one was, run Thorium and see what happens. Good luck!

  23. The download of all Windows XP x86 updates has also been completed. The download took place under Windows 10 with WSUS Offline Update 9.2.6, the latest version of the wsusscn2.cab file automatically fetched by WSUS and C++ Libraries and .NET Frameworks enabled. Here are my results: Size of the folder client\cpp: 87.6 MB Size of the folder client\dotnet: 960 MB Size of the folder client\win: 148 MB Size of the folder client\wxp: 735 MB The file ExcludeList-superseded.txt was extracted correctly and automatically copied to the exclude folder. The file size is 1.86 MB (1956216 B). So, no need to manually extract and paste. Strangely, despite exclusions (among others ndp48-), a number of ndp48-kb* files were downloaded and saved in the folder client\dotnet\x86-glb where I had to remove them during the last pause before creating the iso image. No idea why they were saved. But all in all, everything worked perfectly. My download log only shows those files as failed downloads already mentioned in previous posts. I added them during the last pause. And regarding the download of Office 2010 updates, the method of injecting an older version of wsusscn2.cab also worked fine, exactly the way I had planned and hoped.

  24. Here are my first results: Size of the folder client\o2k10: 729 MB Size of the folder client\ofc: 5.02 GB As already mentioned, I used WSUS Offline Update 11.9.6. My download log doesn't show any failed downloads. So what sizes did you get? Shall we also compare the number of files in each folder?

  27. When I first installed Thorium (and Supermium) I simply replaced their user data folders with the one from my 360Chrome installation. This worked fine and almost everything came across OK. It's all Chromium, so that should work, at least as a starting point.

  28. Privacy issue, yes, but the most annoyance is when modern sites detect Vista and ask you to upgrade the browser, when the browser is not needed to be upgraded. Probably, you don't use those sites, I'd give some links, but you won't use them anyway, one good example is Nvidia site, it was already discussed at github.

  30. ... And just out of the blue, KMB just got an unexpected official update yesterday, Aug 1st 2024: https://browser-download.kfsafe.cn/MiniBrowserSetup.exe The Chinese installer (not recommended to execute directly ) the above URI affords is of version 1.0.0.134, has a digital file signature of 20240801 and comes more than two and a half years after previous official release, 1.0.0.127, which was digitally signed on 20211209... I wasn't able to find any changelog for this release; the installer is 7-zip extract-able, thus I verified the app is still based on the M87 Chromium kernel... @Humming Owl, would you please oblige?

  33. "Russian Businesses Can Now Legally Steal Intellectual Property from ‘Unfriendly Countries’" "As of Monday, March 7, 2022, the Russian government has legalised intellectual property (IP) theft. With this move, businesses in Russia can now violate IP rights, as they no longer need to compensate patent holders from “unfriendly countries.” The list of “unfriendly countries” includes the United States, Canada, Australia, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, the United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan and all 27 European Union (EU) member countries." That includes software. https://ipwatchdog.com/2022/03/16/russian-businesses-can-now-legally-steal-intellectual-property-unfriendly-countries/id=147528/

  34. No, I think I wrote very clear, in a very simple English. Not the first time other people and I notice troubles with your translation software. "Any user, who is going to join, needs to be warned in advance that he will be forced to adhere to the laws of the welcoming entity." In other words, hey foreigner, follow the US laws, or be banned. Where did I write "company"? https://msfn.org/board/topic/186333-vxkex-extended-kernel-project-dissapeared/?do=findComment&comment=1270171

  39. Windows 7 never supported D3D11.1. It's a rumour/fake news. D3D11.1 is windows 8+ only. Some DXGI 1.2 API and the ID3DUserDefinedAnnotation were ported on windows 7, but most of the really useful functionality, no. You can get only partial/miserable/fake Direct3D 11.1 by installing the Platform Update for Windows 7 And, for example, this component is not available: DirectComposition (DComp) All information is taken from Microsoft website. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/win32/direct3darticles/platform-update-for-windows-7

  42. The original SHA-2 hash for KexSetup_Release_1_1_1_1375.exe is 652f6d2901c86de4a05743b5f808fafb6e28b9720c39bce5e7e031d26cac9035 And it matches with re uploads from commandcontrolQ and VxKex/VxKex commandcontrolQ stated that: The VxKex/VxKex one looks suspicious tho as it looks like it's baiting for donations in Bitcoin (which wasn't the case with the original release) and Readme is also heavily trimmed. If @vxiiduu re released the official version, they would have probably let us know here.
