  1. No I don't. @IDA-RE-things later wrote it was a joke about Chromium Team. But about win32 he was very clear and serious. Edit. Public accusations is indeed a very serious matter.

  2. Why do you post, then? If you don't know. Scroll back and read. In short, a newly joined member @IDA-RE-things accused our long time developer @win32of stealing his code, then the accuser was politely asked by another members to provide proof, instead we only got a longish text from him, without proof. Is it clear?

  3. This is a lot words, but no actual proof, So I thought.

  4. This seems like a rather weak, desperate attempt to draw attention away from the main, serious subject. I mean the subject of @IDA-RE-things accusing our respected member @win32 and Chromium Team of stealing his code.

  6. You are like Iron Man beating the Thanos that is Microsoft, can you do actual time travel next?

  7. @Jody Thornton and I, we both see this as an optimisation made by @win32, unless it's proven otherwise, it should be the default opinion since Supermium is developed solely by win32. But then again, you're very welcome to take the matter up to the github admins.

  8. @IDA-RE-things This is not our issue, and there's no reason for people here to feel that they need to take up cudgels on your behalf. You and win32s(s) are on GitHub, and this issue, if it merits it, should be raised and resolved there. FWIW, as far as I can see the 'borrowing' of someone else's code is something which should be asked for in advance as a matter of courtesy, and acknowledged by the 'borrower', and in many cases I'm sure that would be accepted by the code's originator, even with closed source projects. If those niceties were not observed in this case, that's regrettable, but it's between you and win32s(s) and should be resolved on GitHub, not here.

  9. NO! We were one million times trough it! Supermium is not open source, neither the dll which is published by @IDA-RE-things.

  10. One doesn't have to understand Russia's language to figure out (or translate) the two words in the first post added by the forum admin. Those say - the programme was wiped out/deleted by the author. There's a link to archive.org given, but it doesn't allow to download the patch.

  11. Jody, for the 1st time I agree with you. But let's not forget the reason @win32 left. Such accusations are very serious and interfere with his work, at least the mood. Our goal is to see him back and work together in a pleasant environment, This is still not looking like one,

  12. Of course, it does. However, it's probably better to ignore such unqualified comments about the age of hardware. But I'm not that kind of person.

  13. Thanks for the very useful option to use Setup without selecting sources install.wim. It allows to Add Drivers and Tweaks e.g. Disable Windows Defender on existing Windows Installation e.g. Windows_To_Go in VHD

  14. OK, this is getting personal, and that must stop please. This thread is to discuss technical aspects of the Supermium browser, not to have a debate about who may or may not have 'borrowed' code or ideas from whom. If you want to discuss this further, take it to PMs. Any continuation of the present discussion will be deleted.

  15. I have my doubts about the German BSI. Their current head Claudia Plattner is a red-green political appointee, who seems to consider US interests https://www.danisch.de/blog/2023/07/07/die-seltsame-it-sicherheitsexpertise-der-neuen-bsi-chefin-claudia-plattner/ Why did she go to Tulane, couldn't she get admitted to a top university like MIT? She is not listed in the US wikipedia, only in the German wikipedia https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claudia_Plattner "BSI's predecessor was the cryptographic department of Germany's foreign intelligence agency (BND)" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Office_for_Information_Security Relying on BSI for anti-virus software recommendations?

  17. It doesn't work in Opera anymore either, depreciated flag since v110.

  18. There is no reason to actually do that, since Windows 7 has a disable update option.

  20. There is NO language barrier. I know English since I was 5. Probably better than you. @IDA-RE-thingsthings wrote very clearly: "He" (win32) took "my workaround for slow startup (I think borrowed), which I implemented before in my code".

  21. OK so let's can the "it's my gut feeling" nonsense. It's DEFINITELY faster. I wasn't qualifying it technically in any way at all. I'm just saying that compared to the v122x release version on a notebook with a measly 2 GB of RAM and a Centrino Duo CPU, the pre-release made major gains in rendering, loading the application, and responsiveness. I'll tell ya, I remember taking all sorts of flack back in the day about dissing those sticking with XP, and standing up to all the anti-FUD crowd. The only reason I mention this is that here on MSFN, everyone now just seems so angry, contentious, disagreeable (different from disagreeing by the way) and just plain bitter, and I just get nicer and more easy going. I've become more "live and let live". Just accept what I said at face value, and move the heck along. Who cares about whether I credited win32 or not, or who cares if I tested with my gut or facts. It's Faster! We're done here. Sheesh! Everybody just relax. Of course, I just know I'll be the one made to appear "out of line" here. Sigh!

  22. WinNTSetup 5.3.5.2 - fixed crash with no source selection - removed policy for HiberbootEnabled

  23. that GUI bug might be also in the normal sumatra pdf 3.5.2 release i noticed a slight view GUI bug in win7/vista (not win10) - more i could not test (maybe in 8.1 ?) (it is functional but so the sumatra author might not have taken care of vista and 7 anymore) in windows XP the GUI is in-perfect but looks mostly normal and very ok and acceptable and is functional if that problem is meant i only could use a pre version to fix that up (but that is rather work for the sumatra pdf author - it happend due changes sumatra author did with the GUI) you should test the orginal sumatra pdf first to see if it has these problems the sumatra author has a open forum for problems regarding his programm if you descripe a different GUI problem you might send me a private message with screenshots to that drag and drop problem i noticed that one a bit, if we talk about the same one (but rather it sometimes dont drag and drop always with the first try in 10 that is bugged too - it might accept the file but then you get a error that sumatra pdf could not open that pdf file) - but also you need to test the sumatra pdf i builded up in a win10 machine first if that same problem apears there = there is already 50 % the reason are the changed for the XP mod then you have to try it with the normal (unchanged official version) also on win10 if both (official and xp modded) have not that problem in win10 - it is a NOT reason related for the changed xp mod if both (official and xp modded) have 1 working and the other is not working - the reason is with the XP mod (100 %) that part might come from what sumatra author called (//hacky but works) the code didnt look so well in this solutions and ended up in a OS specific reaction (this is normally not what you want - rather that would be bad programming)

  24. No solutions as of yet, what they did in the new Ungoogled patch - doesn't block all, btw. It's now more of a partially broken API there, from the looks of it.

  25. You're welcome! NirSoft tools are great. I use many of them for many, many years. Most of these tools are still XP-compatible and even get updates from time to time.

  26. Thanks for your confirmation! I also thought that a time bomb had been implemented in the executable. McAfee probably wanted to prevent users from using outdated versions of Stinger. But I wanted a confirmation from others to be sure it's not related to my system only.

  27. Mixing RAM modules from different manufacturers with different timings is always problematic. More like a game of chance. It is best to replace them all with same modules from one production series. That's what I did with my lady's Fujitsu notebook, built in 2010. I bought the modules second-hand a few years ago as new ones were no longer available. I completely replaced two 1 GB modules with two 4 GB ones. It worked perfectly and still works in these days.

  28. I already created a separate thread with the title Startup Managers under Windows XP which can be found here: https://msfn.org/board/topic/184648-startup-managers-under-windows-xp/ StartUp Organizer from MetaProducts is a commercial programme, though. Most users are not willing to buy a licence for those tools. And TBH, there are enough tools free of charge. But nevertheless, such programmes can increase system security, however, only if security features have been implemented in.

  29. Are you really serious? A new installation after every update? And all this effort for an ancient programme with a totally outdated AV engine? I'm losing faith.

  30. VPN has been discussed in different threads on MSFN but is not really a security programme and therefore rather off-topic here. Proxy settings are not necessary for using VPN, especially if you are connected directly to the internet. So what do you want to achieve with the proxy settings of a programme when it comes to VPN? And what does that have to do with this thread?
    1 point
  31. No. Maybe that's what you want. But that has nothing to do with reality. One can only suggest something that exists. No. Kaspersky is spyware. Nothing is good there. This can be read in their own documents. That's it. Dr Web is simply trash. Never read any good about it. Not true. Very risky.

  34. Thanks for replying! The last official Chrome which supported Windows XP was the version 49.0.2623.112. I think I have a copy of it in my archive. In any case, I will check if the hardware acceleration worked at all in this version on my hardware and report here.
