No, this would be off-topic, too. We talked only about Youtube Downloaders and web interfaces for downloading YouTube videos. We didn't talk about persons having a Youtube-DL compile for WinXP. You should rather think first and only then demand such actions. @Dave-H Please move the discussion about YouTube Downloaders to my new thread YouTube under Windows XP - Downloaders, players and browser support if you think it is necessary! Thanks in advance!3 points

@Mathwiz I have thought about your problem again and could imagine that you may have installed the uBO webextension in the past. Could I be right? In any case, I will examine this issue in my Serpent 55 installation the next days. If, contrary to my expectations, I find that Serpent 55 tries to automatically update the legacy extension uBlock Origin to the latest compatible webextension, I can make my fork so unique that it can never be identified as uBlock Origin again. Then, it couldn't be automatically updated anymore by whatever mechanism. The updating of my fork/mod should only be done by a manual editing of its code inside the xpi file unless gorhill would decide to support the legacy extension again which, however, will probably never be the case. PS: Please, test your issue in a fresh, clean profile and report here! Thanks!2 points

One just doesn't do that. One doesn't put others first in order to hide behind them. You asked for moderation here and nobody else did. So, for better or worse, you will have to take a stand on your own statements. And if someone says or advises you something, then that has nothing to do with an attack. That's simply ridiculous and nonsense once again.2 points

Here are the subfolders: And their content: And as you can see I replaced both files, ffmpeg.exe and ffprobe.exe, by more recent XP-compatible ones. If I modify something, it has to make sense. I've just remembered how I did it with the directories. When calling up the executable youtube-dl-gui.exe the first time, a folder youtube-dlg will be created under Documents and Settings\your username\Application Data. There is a file settings.json which can be edited to specify a different folder for the youtube-dl.exe file. I copied then the folder youtube-dlg into the main programme folder and set this new location in the settings.json file (inside the folder Documents and Settings\your username\Application Data, of course).2 points

Where do you see "a foreign legion or Lebanese green beret (LAF) wannabes" on this website? For those who never heard before- LAF is Lebanese Armed Forces https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lebanese_Armed_Forces. If this is some sort of your anti-semitic jokes/trolling, stop. People will help only those who behave properly and respectfully. So far, you didn't even thank me for pointing you out to the right direction regarding Bluray/DVD playback, for example.2 points

I'm absolutely chill, in fact, I'm on holidays at a very beautiful place (Dutch territories in Latin America). So what makes you think I'm not? You are again wrong, you simply confuse codecs with acceleration. Internal LAV are codecs, DirectX 11 is acceleration. Acceleration can't "fall back" and make the codec do the acceleration. I feel the only reason I haven't had this BSOD on any of my browsers (Mypal / 360 Chrome / New Moon 28) is because I don't try to enable hardware acceleration. My aged hardware is so crappy that its better to leave the software to pick up the slack.1 point

Thank you @Vistapocalypse for the warning on this ahead of time on this movie. I am sensitive and will avoid this for that reason. I ran out of likes today so a reply is better anyway. Thank you for the recommendation and this movie does sound interesting and I quite enjoy Dennis Hopper in other movies.1 point

Yeah, my brain is also wired differently, and like you it works for me and I've come to accept it over the years. Nothing wrong with being "yourself" just the way you are "as is" and this is the problem with the world now, people are canceled for being an "individual" - we live in a 'cookie cutter' world and in a lot of ways I'm glad I'm a misfit. Here's to all the misfits out there1 point

... When an extension provides its own "update URL" (inside its install.rdf file), this takes precedence over the "default" updating process by the browser the extension is installed in ... IIANM, uBO "beta" (as in 1.16.4.31b2) updates itself via "GitHub", so you just removed that update pathway... If you pay more attention at @Mathwiz's post, he wrote: (AMO: addons.mozilla.org); this update pathway is controlled by the browser itself (NOT by the extension) and it's realised by the browser "querying" (at set intervals) the default extensions repo (AMO in the case of St55) for an updated, compatible, version of all the already installed extensions - this function is controlled in St55 by below about:config pref: extensions.update.url;https://versioncheck.addons.mozilla.org/update/VersionCheck.php?reqVersion=%REQ_VERSION%&id=%ITEM_ID%&version=%ITEM_VERSION%&maxAppVersion=%ITEM_MAXAPPVERSION%&status=%ITEM_STATUS%&appID=%APP_ID%&appVersion=55.0&appOS=%APP_OS%&appABI=%APP_ABI%&locale=%APP_LOCALE%¤tAppVersion=%CURRENT_APP_VERSION%&updateType=%UPDATE_TYPE%&compatMode=%COMPATIBILITY_MODE% and since, as you hinted, uBO-legacy and uBO-WE have the same extensionID, the browser can and will update it, eventually, to the compatible, WE, version extant in AMO... Kindest regards. PS: UXP-based browsers have cut all "ties" to AMO, which is currently hosting only WEs, thus this issue can't be witnessed in St52/NM28/etc. ; but, "we" do have, few as they may be, dedicated St55 users here ...1 point

To each their own, of course, but I see the world differently, my brain is wired differently, but that wiring works for me "so be it", lol. Just as everyone else's "wiring" should work for them! Sure, I loved cartoons when I was a kid, but as an adult I hate hate HATE "cartoons". To the point of BOYCOTTING things like The Simpsons, The Critic, F is for Family, American Dad, King of the Hill, Bob's Burgers, Archer, Rick and Morty, Beavis and Butt-Head, Futurama, Family Guy, South Park. And I had to google-search just to list some of them. HATE HATE HATE! Not a strong enough word! I throw Scooby Doo and Tom and Jerry into the same category, I cannot even bring myself to watch Charlie Brown Christmas Specials or seasonal cartoons like How the Grinch Stole Christmas. I do not know WHAT or WHY, but cartoons of ANY kind make me feel like I am "regressing" and I try to always look towards the future and not the past. But like I said, my brain is wired differently. But that wiring "works for me" and I would have it no other way.1 point

@Mathwiz Very strange! In my latest release uBlock Origin 1.16.4.31, I have removed the auto-update function of the internal list of all preselected filter lists and the updateURL inside the install.rdf file. Therefore, my fork can't actually initiate any auto-update actions. Did you install uBlock Origin 1.16.4.31 after a complete cleaning of all remnants as I described in my article? Very important is to delete the ublock0.sqlite file in the profile subfolder extension-data before installing uBO. And don't install uBO on top of an already existing installation! It won't work properly. I personally do not use the auto-update function of the Add-ons Manager in @roytam1's browser editions. All update processes are done by me manually. Therefore, this never happened to me.1 point

I assume so. Whenever possible I've added filters to make sure I cover as much as possible but noticed sometimes new ads appear out of the blue or somehow some manage to get past my blocking rules. I always add personal filters -I should've clarified that before- that's what I was talking about when I said I used uBO combined with AbU. It happened to me many times that I personally blocked ads or items with uBO and they came back every time. So, the ads that uBO didn't manage to block I blocked them with AbU and they didn't appear again. As I said before, sometimes I blocked too many ads and elements that seemed unnecessary and in the end something ended up malfunctioning in the appearance of sites or some main function disappeared -as it happened with the problem that originated my request for help in this thread- then I'd unblock elements one by one until I could see what was only necessary. Also, it always seemed to me that uBO was the best of the adblocking options -that's why I use it as the main one- and that it could be very good but not perfect. That's why I decided to experiment and try to combine it with other extensions instead of going deeper into how I could try to solve these same problems using uBO's tweaking options. Every now and then I keep finding more uses for uBO, it keeps surprising me. Maybe it's my mistake to think I can't ask more from such a good extension and go deeper into it instead. I definitely thought of trying frontend programs. With your recommendations I now have alternatives to entertain myself testing how they work. Thank you very much for that. Sure you did and I understood. I didn't mean to make you repeat yourself. I try to answer as much as I can to everyone and some things escape me. I already resemble ad blocking extensions. A few days ago, for some unexpected reason, the system stopped responding and instead of waiting I pressed reset without thinking and after reboot some files got corrupted. It wasn't so serious that I had to resort to an image right away but I can see the deterioration and I'm already backing up files. With SSD disks everything is easier but I've noticed, from time to time -even after years without problems- the system becomes capricious, some important file becomes corrupted, something starts to fail, some experiment -or an error of impatience as in this case- make the system become unstable and unpredictable. Maybe that is the reason why AbU has started to malfunction after months of trouble-free operation. Once I get back to the image I will know for sure. I hear you. I got to know DOS and I know the basics around but since Windows appeared with its frontend programs I never got interested in commands again. I can be very lazy sometimes, besides this machine is from 2010 so between some over clocking plus 4gb of ram I have no problems regarding slowness or overload. I've told you all that even Windows 7 runs perfectly on this machine and I'm even thinking of extending the ram to 8gb, but I use XP because I like it too much. It's fast, reliable and I could always mould it to my liking in almost every way I could think of.1 point

I recently rewatched David Lynch’s 1986 cult classic Blue Velvet. This film is certainly not for everyone! Depending on which critic you listen to, Blue Velvet might be one of the 100 best films ever made, or it might be one of the most disturbing pieces of trash ever to avoid an X rating. Youngsters and sensitive adults beware! This film was rated R for extreme profanity, sadomasochistic sex and other miscellaneous violence. Dennis Hopper’s villain “Frank” is especially depraved, but if he doesn’t make you nauseous, you might find him to be quite funny. I would be interested in knowing what other members think of Blue Velvet. Here’s an official trailer suitable for general audiences, hence it does not prepare you in the least for the film’s more controversial content: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGQlJQHHTgA1 point

In particular, you implied Jenna isn't smart and pretty enough. In my glorious country for such talks about women (doesn't matter whether they are really ugly or not), you'd be hanged, period. I shan't waste my time googling for Jenna and how she looks like, it doesn't matter, she is a woman, and you need to respect that. In my region it's even more serious, you'd be declared a sub-human for having no respect for women, this has a very serious consequences, far worse than hanging.1 point

There would be two alternative ways that do not involve the use of an Asmedia eSATA PCIEx card: 1. since there is more than one version of the ASMedia sata driver that allows GPT disk recognition even with some non-ASMedia controllers, you could try installing the ASMedia driver v2.0.3.1 or earlier versions for your Silicon Image card; 2. already reported here: https://msfn.org/board/topic/181911-read-gpt-hard-disk-on-windows-xp/?do=findComment&comment=1258361 In both cases, the .inf file needs to be edited by adding the usual two text lines for recogniton of a generic disk drive. If you want to give it a try, it is a good idea to first save an image of the system disk to restore in case it becomes unbootable. Most important: try it at your own risk1 point

If you want something GUI-like, you could also add yt-dlp to the browsers context menu with the extension "Open With" (available in the Classic Add-ons Archive).1 point
-
... But I did tell you so : CLI = Command Line Interface Both apps will try and use ALL the DL speed your line will allow for (provided they're updated so they're not throttled by most evil Google ); yt-dlp also comes with the "-N x" option (multi-threaded, aka parallel downloading for the same clip). One can always download the latest (nightly) release from GitHub: https://github.com/ytdl-org/ytdl-nightly/releases/tag/2024.01.23 (you need the .EXE) Those dropbox links may eventually expire/return a 404 in the future, and this is beyond @nicolaasjan's control, unfortunately ... ... Well, why would that happen anyhow (is your H/W failing?) ? TBH, problems inside your browser (St52 in this case) shouldn't be immediately associated to the OS itself, but I could be wrong ... There's infinite documentation online to "get used to" , e.g. https://www.indeed.com/career-advice/career-development/how-to-run-program-in-command-prompt Personally, I'd feel "crippled" if not able to run CLI apps on this old Windows laptop (as CLI apps often require fewer system resources ) ...1 point

@chermany4ever Although a bit off-topic in @roytam1's thread (sorry for that ), here are some recommendations for YouTube Downloaders still working under Windows XP (and presumably under Windows Vista, too): yt-dlp for Windows XP with a CPU which is equipped with an instruction set of SSE2 or higher. Credits to @nicolaasjan. youtube-dl for Windows XP with a CPU which is equipped with an instruction set of SSE only. Credits to @nicolaasjan. 3D Youtube Downloader (free of charge). The version I am using is 1.19.17 but there is a newer one 1.20.2. This downloader does not use yt-dlp or youtube-dl. YouTube Downloader HD 3.7.0.0 (free of charge). There are two versions, an installer and a portable one. These are the last XP-compatible versions. This downloader does not use yt-dlp or youtube-dl. Youtube-dl GUI 0.4 (free of charge). When calling up the executable youtube-dl-gui.exe the first time, a folder youtube-dlg will be created under Documents and Settings\your username\Application Data where you have to replace the file youtube-dl.exe by @nicolaasjan's XP-compatible yt-dlp file. Be aware to keep the original file name! Allavsoft Video Downloader Converter (commercial). The version I am using is 3.25.3.8409 but there is a newer one 3.26.1.8768. Inside the main folder, you have to replace both files youtube-dl.exe and yt-dlp_x86.exe by @nicolaasjan's XP-compatible ones. Be aware to keep the original file names! And these are by no means all the YouTube Downloaders that still work under Windows XP. So, there is no need to watch YouTube videos inside browsers under Windows XP on weak computers, although this is of course possible, too. Cheers, AstroSkipper1 point
-
I was aware of that. I used only uBO but some ads would slip through If uBO doesn't block certain ads, then you should check the filter lists you are using. A suitable combination and selection of good filter lists is very important, and additionally, you can create own rules. No need for an additional adblocker. If AdBlocker Ultimate can block some ads which uBO can't do, then it is only a problem of missing filters.1 point

Hi Qtranslate is back in function with improvements following its abandonment by its designer. works very well under XP qTranslate Community edition dated December 9, 2023 Differences from the official version: * The official portable version of qTranslate 6.9.0 is taken as a basis (according to reviews it works more stable than 6.10.0); * The Google Translator script is taken from the newer version 6.10.0; * The Google Dictionary script (technically, it was always just a search engine) is taken from the newer version 6.10.0; * Fixed Yandex, Bing (Microsoft Translator), DeepL, Urban Dictionary; * Added ChatGPT (configured to work as a translator). Powered by GPT-3.5-turbo-0613; * Reverso has been added as a translator (previously it worked only as a dictionary). The author of the patch seems to be Zloy_Gelud; * Added translators: Translatero (thanks DimitarSerg), Amazon, ModernMT and LibreTranslate; * Added dictionaries: wiktionary, dic.academic.ru (explanatory), translate.academic.ru (transferable); * DeepL icon change; * Deleted (didn't work anyway): Promt, youdao, Baidu, Papago; * It uses its own exeshnik (thanks to DimitarSerg). Comments and suggestions can be left here: https://forum.ru-board.com/topic.cgi?forum=5&topic=50987 Qtranslate download1 point
