That's absolutely true. The less, the more. Using only one adblocker is mandatory. A combination I am using is indeed uBO+ηMatrix. Works great and has been successfully applied by me for many years. And just for clarification, ηMatrix is not an adblocker but a point-and-click matrix-based firewall for UXP-based browsers, with many privacy-enhancing tools. I also prefer the programmes youtube-dl.exe and yt-dlp.exe (again thanks to @nicolaasjan for his XP releases) but inside of YouTube Downloaders for more convenient use. And I have a whole collection of such tools that still run under Windows XP.

I feel you. But hey, 8 years is a good run. RAM also degrades overtime. No reason to throw it away yet. Try increase the voltage a bit, like I wrote above.

I'm giving out the most common errors from the several of my systems. fltmgr.sys error accompanied by "0000008e, parameter1 c0000005" = faulty RAM (maybe not enough power supplied, if that RAM is overclocked, bad batch of chips, low binned, like the "famous" Taiwanese Kingston, for example.) Fix - replace RAM, try to bump up the voltage in the BIOS (add a small increase, sometimes it's enough).

It's not "maybe", "likely", "probably", it's only "N/A". (In English it's a short for "not available") DirectX 11 video acceleration (but not gaming DirectX 11) is only available since Windows 8. "d3d11 requires Windows 8 or later, and is not supported on this OS!" Do you need help with the translation?

If you want something GUI-like, you could also add yt-dlp to the browsers context menu with the extension "Open With" (available in the Classic Add-ons Archive).

I was aware of that. I used only uBO but some ads would slip through If uBO doesn't block certain ads, then you should check the filter lists you are using. A suitable combination and selection of good filter lists is very important, and additionally, you can create own rules. No need for an additional adblocker. If AdBlocker Ultimate can block some ads which uBO can't do, then it is only a problem of missing filters.

It doesn't show H265 - HEVC MAIN Profile, WMV (Windows Media) IDCT and VP9 (limited). These are the first ones come to mind. All supported by your card.

It was just a typo in my article, which I already corrected. The maxVersion in the install.rdf was of course correctly set by me to 32.*. And frankly, I would never set a maxVersion to 32.0 inside an install.rdf file. That usually does not make any sense. But thanks for your hint!

You're welcome! I will examine this more deeply. Maybe, you are right, and the filter list "Spam404" is indeed a bit outdated and has therefore been replaced by the filter list "Phishing URL Blocklist" in the webextensions of uBO. We will see. I will also check this later. With all this, it is always very important to make sure that new lists are really compatible with uBlock Origin Legacy.

Most of BluRay/DVDs have copy protection/encryption. On MPC-HC page at github they write what to do about it.

YouTube under Windows XP - Downloaders, players and browser support This thread is meant to collect and provide all necessary information about YouTube using in Windows XP. As far as I can see, most information here in MSFN spread over various threads, in many cases rather unstructured and not easy to find. I would like to put an end to that. For months, I have been intensively studying YouTube and its still existing functionality in terms of Windows XP. And I can already say that YouTube is still fully functional under Windows XP. But first, thanks to two members of MSFN who are partly responsible for this, @nicolaasjan and @Reino. What did they do for us? @nicolaasjan provides XP-compatible forks of the most recent youtube-dl and yt-dlp releases which are recommended replacements for the old, depreciated ones or the new ones which are no longer working under Windows XP. On the other hand, @Reino provides XP-compatible (and SSE-compatible!) forks of the well-known tool ffmpeg whose more recent versions actually do not work anymore under Windows XP for years. With these programs, yt-dlp and ffmpeg, it is possible to stream or download YouTube videos, convert them, include subtitles (or lyrics) and so on, all in Windows XP. This is no longer possible with the old, official XP-compatible versions of youtube-dl and yt-dlp, and the new releases of ffmpeg. Last but not least, @cmalex deserves recognition and credit for compiling flavours of CPython 3.8.x/3.9.x and much other things that made the development of new releases such as yt-dlp possible at all. This is just a technicality, but youtube-dl NEVER "officially" dropped Windows XP SP3 support; the python script itself, to this day, remains compatible even with such an old CPython version as py2.6 and py3.2 (!), though, for best results under XP, CPython 2.7.18 (EoS for that OS) and CPython 3.4.10 (EoS for that OS) should be used... The provided, standalone, Windows executable youtube-dl.exe, has been historically compiled with the py2exe Python module and comes bundled with CPython 3.4.4 32-bit (WinXP SP3, SSE+ compatible). In the case of yt-dl, "official" is open for interpretation, because the team of devs behind https://github.com/ytdl-org/youtube-dl and the last "stable" release https://github.com/ytdl-org/youtube-dl/releases/tag/2021.12.17 retired (read: abandoned the project) a few years ago, but that same repo is under new management currently (ownership transfer) by, sadly, only ONE maintainer, @dirkf, who vowed to keep support for older python versions (and, by association, older WinOSes like XP/Vista ). The new maintainer doesn't believe in a "stable" releases scheme and has instead opted to adopt a "nightly" releases scheme, to be found under: https://github.com/ytdl-org/ytdl-nightly/tags The binaries there are compiled from source code of the original repo, thus I do still consider these releases as "official", i.e. they're NOT FORKS ... In closing, if you'd allow me to be somewhat pedantic , the XP-compatible builds of yt-dlp.exe most kindly released by nicolaasjan to this community wouldn't be a thing if it weren't for cmalex, who compiled himself flavours of CPython 3.8.x/3.9.x that will launch under XP - so, IMHO, he, too, deserves some credit! ...

Here are the subfolders: And their content: And as you can see I replaced both files, ffmpeg.exe and ffprobe.exe, by more recent XP-compatible ones. If I modify something, it has to make sense. I've just remembered how I did it with the directories. When calling up the executable youtube-dl-gui.exe the first time, a folder youtube-dlg will be created under Documents and Settings\your username\Application Data. There is a file settings.json which can be edited to specify a different folder for the youtube-dl.exe file. I copied then the folder youtube-dlg into the main programme folder and set this new location in the settings.json file (inside the folder Documents and Settings\your username\Application Data, of course).

@chermany4ever Although a bit off-topic in @roytam1's thread (sorry for that ), here are some recommendations for YouTube Downloaders still working under Windows XP (and presumably under Windows Vista, too): yt-dlp for Windows XP with a CPU which is equipped with an instruction set of SSE2 or higher. Credits to @nicolaasjan. youtube-dl for Windows XP with a CPU which is equipped with an instruction set of SSE only. Credits to @nicolaasjan. 3D Youtube Downloader (free of charge). The version I am using is 1.19.17 but there is a newer one 1.20.2. This downloader does not use yt-dlp or youtube-dl. YouTube Downloader HD 3.7.0.0 (free of charge). There are two versions, an installer and a portable one. These are the last XP-compatible versions. This downloader does not use yt-dlp or youtube-dl. Youtube-dl GUI 0.4 (free of charge). When calling up the executable youtube-dl-gui.exe the first time, a folder youtube-dlg will be created under Documents and Settings\your username\Application Data where you have to replace the file youtube-dl.exe by @nicolaasjan's XP-compatible yt-dlp file. Be aware to keep the original file name! Allavsoft Video Downloader Converter (commercial). The version I am using is 3.25.3.8409 but there is a newer one 3.26.1.8768. Inside the main folder, you have to replace both files youtube-dl.exe and yt-dlp_x86.exe by @nicolaasjan's XP-compatible ones. Be aware to keep the original file names! And these are by no means all the YouTube Downloaders that still work under Windows XP. Hiya there guys. Thanks again for sharing useful knowledge. I was aware of that. I used only uBO but some ads would slip through and that led me to experiment and combine it with AdBlocker Ultimate. That way I was able to block many ads and elements of many sites to my liking and never noticed a memory issue. I've been using both for many months now without any problems but yesterday I had to remove AbU because it was giving me problems with too many sites. I think my system is broken and I will have to go back to an image soon. As I said in season 04, I stopped using uMatrix 'cause I found it super heavy and sites took a long time to load. Recently I discovered nMatrix in the Basilisk extensions page and I'm using it. I think it's great, light, sites load fast and I can block stuff and unwanted behaviors individually. I searched last night for links to the programs to download YouTube videos and couldn't find 'em, so you've been very helpful Mina. I just ran yt-dlp and it's a commands program; laugh at me but obviously I'm not used to that and what I want is the idea of downloading videos using a download accelerator, that's why I was very comfortable using such sites until now. I still will try to see how this programs work, thou I tried to download youtube-dl and it seems that the link is broken. I will continue to investigate. I thank you all again for your help!

Hi, after a bit more extensive usage of ExtremeExplorer360 under WinXP (after some 20+ tabs opened or longer maps panning and zooming) I got this win32k.sys BSOD. I think it maybe the same problem as with MyPal68 where many users complained about the BSOD that came very easily. For MyPal there's an option: layers.omtp.enabled = false that eliminates the BSOD. Is there similar option for EE360/chromium that would solve this issue?

Nothing special about 2021. It's the year that particular version was released, I assume. It comes with some built-in filters (because it needs to work right out of the box, even without adding external filters), and since that was released in 2021 they are named accordingly.

You're welcome Dave! Despite what the version number says, the BIOS files inside are newer, they are dated as of late 2010. It's some sort of a BIOS update with the same chip, but manufactured by Acer. I extracted the update, it's much newer than yours from 2004.

(my 2c, ofc ...) youtube-dl.exe and yt-dlp.exe are standalone CLI (no GUI) executables that don't require any installation and don't "mess" with one's system; in their default configuration, they'll write some minimal detail inside your Windows profile, but they can also be configured to be "truly portable" by loading a config file adjacent to the executable itself! TBH, I'm a bit surprised you hadn't yet come across them during your quest for YT downloaders, as these apps are well-known/popular in this retro-computing community ... Best regards .

The filter list "filters.txt" with the title "uBlock filters" loads all the other lists "filters-202x.txt" where x is an integer from 0 to 4. They all form a single filter list with the title "uBlock filters". What is there not to understand? If you want to have a deeper understanding of all these things, then you need to consult the sources I provided in my previous posts and you should examine the filter lists themselves.

You are again wrong, you simply confuse codecs with acceleration. Internal LAV are codecs, DirectX 11 is acceleration. Acceleration can't "fall back" and make the codec do the acceleration. Study, study, study.
