  2. Thanks, very good advice! So far, I only tried on a laptop that came with Vista x86, it doesn't have that setting, but my MSI mobo does, it freed up approx. 348 megs, I also switched off the internal graphics, thank you!!!!

  3. It's still way too many, comparing to other ports of Chrome that work on Vista without the EX-kernel. I was shocked by the screenshot, honestly, but anyways, maybe the dude is just a huge fan of running 255 extensions all at once, who knows.

  4. You could try changing the BIOS setting to "allow memory remap:ON", it will give you 300mb of additional RAM for Supermim on a 32bit OS.

  5. Basically, I agree with you. As far as NoScript is concerned, I have extensive experience with this extension. I used it for many years in Firefox and later in Pale Moon. Unfortunately, there were always problems that only the developer could solve with an update. However, since there have been no updates for many years, I would do the devil to install it again. I've been using the combination of uBlock Origin and uMatrix or ηMatrix for many years, which works excellently and doesn't cause any of the problems that NoScript used to.

For Sometimes, Everyone here trying to back port NDIS 6.0+ in quest of having Modern NIC but NDIS 6 will require MSI/MSI-X Interrupt support.MSI/MSI-X interrupt came with significant changes in NTOSKRNL,HAL, PCI & ACPI Bus drivers Here is another option , NetAdapterCx , It is opensource , it wraps around NDIS with KMDF and make it much easier to write NIC Driver. https://github.com/Microsoft/Network-Adapter-Class-Extension Microsoft WDF Source Code: https://github.com/microsoft/Windows-Driver-Frameworks Majorly Missing Pieces of NDIS API are following for NetAdapterCx where most of it is wrap around KMDF , Existing NDIS 5.X Function , and some NDIS 6.0 function needs to be re implemented Missing NDIS API: NdisAdvanceNetBufferDataStart NdisAllocateNetBufferAndNetBufferList NdisAllocateNetBufferListPool NdisCloseConfiguration NdisConvertNdisStatusToNtStatus NdisConvertNtStatusToNdisStatus NdisFreeNetBufferList NdisFreeNetBufferListPool NdisMDeregisterMiniportDriver NdisMIndicateReceiveNetBufferLists NdisMIndicateStatusEx NdisMOidRequestComplete NdisMPauseComplete NdisMRestartComplete NdisMSendNetBufferListsComplete NdisMSetMiniportAttributes NdisOpenConfigurationEx NdisOpenConfigurationKeyByName NdisReadConfiguration NdisReadNetworkAddress NdisRetreatNetBufferDataStart NdisWdfAsyncPowerReferenceCompleteNotification NdisWdfChangeSingleInstance NdisWdfCloseIrpHandler NdisWdfCreateIrpHandler NdisWdfDeregisterCx NdisWdfDeviceControlIrpHandler NdisWdfDeviceInternalControlIrpHandler NdisWdfExecuteMethod NdisWdfGetAdapterContextFromAdapterHandle NdisWdfGetGuidToOidMap NdisWdfMiniportDataPathStart NdisWdfMiniportDereference NdisWdfMiniportSetPower NdisWdfMiniportStarted NdisWdfMiniportTryReference NdisWdfNotifyWmiAdapterArrival NdisWdfPnPAddDevice NdisWdfPnpPowerEventHandler NdisWdfQueryAllData NdisWdfQuerySingleInstance NdisWdfReadConfiguration NdisWdfRegisterCx NdisWdfRegisterMiniportDriver NdisWriteConfiguration Missing NETIO: GetIfEntry2Ex Obviously their is a cache, Microsoft didn't share build files like .SLN for WDF [Windows Driver Framework] and NetAdapterCx, i suspect their some files missing even though 98% is their which needs to be reverse engineered from Windows 10 binary,, Is anyone here who can help reconstruct build file [.sln or msbuild] for WDF and NetAdapterCx?

  7. Yes indeed. We usually do it when new builds are issued, so if you could create a new thread for your next builds @roytam1 that would be good, and I will then lock this thread. Thanks, Dave.

  9. In this case the actual power capabilities of the PSU doesn't matter for the PC to just turn on. Full load under heavy gaming is another matter.

  10. There's another method for old schoolers, but maybe dangerous for others, it tests PSU with an electric bulb as its load. I shall not write it here, I'm not gonna be responsible if someone electrocutes himself. But it can be found on the internet, I like this method and always use it. I also test any PSU for the real protections it has (I don't trust whether they claim it to have them), so I short the pins and watch if it goes kaboom, if it's a good one - the short will lead to the PSU just going off. Edit: Again, it's dangerous for inexperienced users.

  12. This thread is about browsers for old OSes as you surely know. These OSes can't be updated anymore. And you know that, too. So what is your comment about? All what can be updated here are browsers and extensions. So what is silly regarding this? TBH, nothing. And nobody is forced to use the old stuff, of course.

  13. That's right. A self-protection function of an antimalware programme is actually a good thing, but it can also cause problems. Especially if you uninstall it. I have experienced this several times.

  14. Thank you for your kind words! I always try to be as fair as possible when writing articles about security programmes. I always separate objective facts from my subjective experiences in my articles. I am curious to see how AVG Antivirus Free performs in your system. The main problem in writing the article about AVG was the unfortunate fact that there is hardly any information left about AVG Antivirus Free 18.8.4084.0, and the support is a joke. Since the company behind AVG is Avast, it refers to articles and information about Avast Free Antivirus 18.8.4084.0 in all support requests. Thus, there has been no real support or corresponding information for AVG Antivirus Free 18.8.4084.0 for years. Avast could actually have made this clear in general in support requests regarding AVG, but it did not.

  15. Hello @Saxon! If you are permanently connected with your notebook to the internet and need a real-time protection, you can try Panda Antivirus Free. Here is a link to my article: https://msfn.org/board/topic/184730-antimalware-firewall-and-other-security-programs-for-windows-xp-working-in-2023-and-hopefully-beyond/?do=findComment&comment=1244402 Alternatively, if you are willing to buy a license, you can try Malwarebytes Antimalware. This older version is very light on resources: https://msfn.org/board/topic/184730-antimalware-firewall-and-other-security-programs-for-windows-xp-working-in-2023-and-hopefully-beyond/?do=findComment&comment=1248964 And this is a more recent version: https://msfn.org/board/topic/184730-antimalware-firewall-and-other-security-programs-for-windows-xp-working-in-2023-and-hopefully-beyond/?do=findComment&comment=1244368 Cheers, AstroSkipper

  18. ... Yes, and you'll have to thank @martok for that (the German creator of PaleFill ); martok is himself a Frtiz!Box owner, so he had immediate interest in getting this fixed (as it turned out, all by himself ) ; look here ... The "fix" materialised as Implement PromiseRejectionEvent but, while working on that, Align microtasks and promises scheduling with current spec also had to be implemented ; however, that last one is the cause for the much-discussed here NoScript-related crashes, so the moto "fix something, break something else" comes to mind (often inherent with coding, especially on such complex sourcebases) ... The new issue opened about it looks like is heading to a "wontfix" (at least where Moonchild is concerned), but someone should alert martok (somehow) that at least one URI induces a browser crash without the presence of the "evil" NoScript extension ...

  19. Usually the remapping will be done by the hard disk internally. The weak sectors will go into pending, then come out again. How unlikely that an error would crash the system this way instead of corrupting another piece of data. A read error would be indicated in the Event Viewer.

  20. I was born in the seventies (exactly the time you say it's started to get warmer), I remember those already heated up seventies very good. But even comparing to the already hot late seventies, what we have have here today is bloody hell, mind you - it exceeds the mentioned 30 years average weather period by almost 80%. So yeah, it's good enough to make clear observations, and not trust those 'official' sources.

  24. Well then , I can indeed tell you that: https://www.theregister.com/ is able to crash Serpent v52.9.0 (2024-01-11) (32-bit) in xul.dll (without ever having installed NS in its profile), while the hotfix release Serpent v52.9.0 (2024-01-13) (32-bit) can load that site fine! So, thank you @modnar for reporting a NS-unrelated case where the "microtasks" bug can be witnessed! Kind greetings, good night and have a good week ahead, too!

  25. Hi Jody and I hope this finds you well. Other than the white boxes, I'd not noticed not seeing the most saved usernames and passwords issue, might you elaborate on what you mean? I basically ignore the white boxes that cover the "reaction" (like/upvoate) and if you pretend they aren't there everything works fine still. Yes, otherwise, 68.13.8b woks just fine with everything else I do on XP and I still use it 90% of the time. Take good care.

  29. I DO hope this makes a positive difference for us using NM28! I doubt it, AFAIK this is the time takes the browser to snap out when it gets stuck running a script and from user's POV, freezes in the process. 31. I got MailNews to connect my Gmail account! I had to enter my email address in the "User Name" textbox instead of my username, and I also changed the authentication method from "OAuth2" to "Normal password", but instead of entering my account's password, I created application-specific password and entered it. MailNews connected, and I received all mails normally! I found @Mathwiz's post in December 11, 2022, which helped me in this. I was also able to connect my Gmail account to IceDove-UXP, using the same way. @roytam1 I want to report a minor inconsistency with IceDove-UXP: it says in the About dialog box 20231110 instead of 20231223.

  38. I'm not entirely sure what's going on, but as with Xitter, @mina7601's test implies there's more going on than just UA sniffing. If it were just the UA, it wouldn't matter whether you used Serpent 52, 55, PM, NM, or what-have-you. My best guess: first they check the UA, then based on the browser they think you have, they do other Javascript checks. If those fail, they just drop the connection, leading to the "Secure Connection Failed" error screen. If so, apparently our browsers are better at passing a "generic Chrome" test than a "generic Firefox" test! Edit: BTW, that Chrome 109 UA works with 360EE (Chromium-86-based), but not Serpent 52 (well, I haven't tried a clean profile yet; that's yet another variable to consider). Edit 2: Well, this is a first; for Serpent 52, the maximum Chrome version that works is 88! (The minimum version is 75.) If I put anything newer in the UA, "secure connection failed." I must admit I've never seen a browser rejected for being too recent!
