  1. GPU-Z @grey_rat Perhaps it is safe to assume UXP is still doing it pre-Firefox 58 way.

  2. Sure, but those businesses should (in theory) have experts capable of mitigating them, no need to (further) scare to death common users about vulnerabiliities they won't ever experience (simply because they don't use the affected services/programs). If we want to scare them, as general advice, we have the (evergreen) opinion by Armand Gracious : https://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/experts.html jaclaz

  3. Hi ; most sadly, since some years ago, the web isn't designed for "faint-at-heart" (i.e. "legacy"/under-resourced) H/W, and the social media sites (like the ones you referenced) are spearheading this "trend" ; it isn't only CSS-related issues (like the one discussed recently here) that heavily tax old H/W, it's the rampant use of heavy scripting, often times unnecessarily , use of blobs of JS many MiBs in size just to render a table of text, use of WASM, the notion of "treating" a browser like an all-purpose media player (lots of embedded HD still and moving pictures, full HD video) and the quick adoption of features compatible only with the recent versions of Chrome(+Edge+Safari)/Firefox ... The UXP-based browsers (one of which is NM28) can't fully cope with "that" web, especially on "era-incorrect" H/W ; use of, first of all, a competent adblocker (or even script blocker) will block several of the scripting (tracking/mining/statistics/advertising) not really required for correct page rendering; if you want to mess with CSS, you need a Style Manager (like Stylem that NHTPG recommended), into which you have to "install" userstyles savvy members of the community/coders author to tackle several issues in sites; if you want to mess with JS, then you need a Userscript Manager (like the one your compatriot, nicolaasjan , recommended) and, again, "install" userscripts (custom JS and/or CSS code that aims to modify the default code pages serve) found on-line (e.g. on Greasy Fork); unless you want to learn to author Userstyles/Userscripts yourself, there's only a very small learning curve associated with the use of those extensions (Stylem, GMFPM, etc.) ... Not 100% sure if that's what you meant , but indeed UXP-based browsers have a setting to turn OFF/ON all page styling : Kind regards.

  4. Precisely! You're welcome ; hopefully, you're not part of the "crowd" here that have publicly stated "I don't bring anything new/useful" to other MSFN members; in any case, I still haven't solved the Serpent 52 "case" you reported and I confirmed ...

  5. ... There is, but it's blocked unwittingly (i.e. not because of your own actions ) ; inside NM28's "about:config" editor, modify the pref general.useragent.override.google.com to a value of Mozilla/5.0 (%OS_SLICE% rv:65.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/65.0 Then, both the homepage of userstyles.org, as well as individual userstyle pages will display as expected!

  8. The annoying part of Malwarebytes is the first month after install where it bugs you constantly about sending them money. I don't like active solutions because of the overhead, the fact that it tries to be active by default is annoying also.

  9. Just for completeness, my main email client in Windows XP is MailNews, which perfectly works with all my email accounts. In addition, I have installed DreamMail Pro, which also works with all the email accounts I use. Of course, MailNews is a powerful email client and more than that.

  10. I already checked this client some months ago. It supports the OAuth2 protocol. Do you use Office365? Does it in the meanwhile work with it? Only interesting for @Mathwiz. I don't use Office365, only the email service Outlook.com, the little brother of Office365.

  11. Right! But I'll not partake in the ESU stuff. I'll just run Windows 8 with the final October update, then I'll be really careful for a year. After Firefox ESR 115 bites the dust, there will no longer be a currently supported browser to lean on, except maybe Supermium. If MyPal 68 evolved into a working x64 browser, then maybe I'd have a case to remain with Windows 8 for longer, but I doubt it. As of 2025, I have another box setup with Windows 10 LTSC 2019, that I'll migrate to.

Though, it's not my favourite, I already wrote many warnings, because it's well known that Opera collects enormous amounts of data and belongs to China. It was just easier to backport it to Vista, in contrast to the usual ungoogled chrome. But Opera is also not relevant here.

  17. Maybe we should have a COO (Certificate of Origin) besides the COA (Certificate of Authenticity) mandated by Law. The (nonsensical) issue would remain about the political orientation of the Author (and of all the contributors) of softwares, only as an example I suspect that there are many Russians among the contributors of Linux, and also a large number of Communists, regardless of their nationality. jaclaz

  18. 13.5 is from China, but not relevant, since the original topic is about the ungoogled version. The other three, by whom they were made, I don't know, never heard of them before. Which chrome version they are based on? Are they ungoogled?

  20. There's a reason they put "Made in Italy" on Ferrari, or on the marvellous Italian olive oil, or "Made in Germany" on the German BMW. Browser is also a product. So I'm not sure what you wanted to say with your remark.

  23. And your title is wrong, even the author doesn't claim his browser to be anywhere near Ungoogled! Besides, his windows 7 version is the ancient 109 from the last year, the russian didn't port anything newer! Which doesn't surprise me at all. He still "patches" the obsolete version. LOL.

  24. It was Dixel. No, the links are direct, they lead to warez packed in zip archives directly, try yourself. It's at least several of them, and I didn't even check the whole website. Maybe, but I don't want you get into trouble here by even mentiong the russian warez site.

  27. DreamMail Pro - Update information! DreamMail Pro has been updated again and is now available in version 6.6.6.10. It is still XP-compatible, and the development is ongoing! I have not been able to find a version history on their homepage. Therefore, I generated an official version history translated to English and provide it here: And here is the download link of DreamMail Pro 6.6.6.10: https://dl.cy-email.com/dm6/Download/dmpro_setup6.6.6.10.exe To force the updated installer of DreamMail Pro 6.6.6.10 to use English instead of Chinese as the installer language, I updated again my small loader that does this when it calls up the setup program. It must be executed in the same directory in which the setup file is located with its original file name dmpro_setup6.6.6.10.exe. Here is the download link of my loader Force_En_Install_DM_Pro_66610.exe: https://www.mediafire.com/file/ijovdtlxbzc6pkp/Force_En_Install_DM_Pro_66610.7z/file Although some virus scanners detect this file as malicious, it is just a false-positive as always. Use my loader to force an English install, only if you trust me, of course! Cheers, AstroSkipper

  31. It definitely depends on both the email web service and the browser. GMX and WEB.DE expect the most recent browsers. Any user agent spoofing does not work anymore. Therefore, only a reduced, simplified interface with the bare essentials in Windows XP. Gmail can be used with its full interface, but is then very sluggish and cumbersome, especially on weak hardware. Fortunately, you can switch to a reduced, fast html interface. Outlook.com can also be used with its full interface, but it is very sluggish, slow and cumbersome, unfortunately.

  33. Hello @Mark-XP! Thanks for your nice words! Much appreciated! The solution you linked in your comment works without any modifications. Here is my detailed instruction to get the "Alternating row highlighting" working in MailNews right away: Create a folder called Chrome in your profile folder. Copy the file userChrome.css containing your linked CSS code into the created folder Chrome . Open about:config, create a new Boolean variable toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets and set it to the value true. Restart MailNews. That is exactly what I did. And it worked right away. Please note that toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets is a Boolean, and not a string variable! And the file userChrome.css must be copied into the Chrome subfolder of your profile folder. That's simply all. Cheers, AstroSkipper

  34. You're right! The direction isn't good for XP/Vista email clients. Logically! No doubt about it! Windows XP is an abandoned, ancient OS which hasn't been supported since 2014. I'll leave the POSReady updates out of my consideration. I think by Web mail you mean the email web services of different providers. Right? If not, please be so nice to provide a link to this email web service in question! The problem with email web services is that most of them work only with a reduced, simplified interface in old browsers as for example GMX or in Germany WEB.DE. These interfaces are awful and restricted, only for the bare essentials. When these email services are managed for example by MailNews, they work much better, more comfortable and faster. I prefer this way, love it and use it as long as possible!

  35. From what I remember from my brief XP days, OpenVPN always messed up my LAN settings and adapter. Why brief ? I ditched XP as soon as Vista came out, when I bought my Siemens with Q6600 in 2007. And it was still making an impact, even on that Quad. I think OpenVPN is unreliable, it also has no *kill switch*. Sorry for my opinion.

  38. This one works on XP. At least a bit earlier version I tried. This is a simple and easy to use tool. Paid, but has free proxies, also. From what I know, this software was made a Latvian guy. What struck me as weird, it checks the speed of the servers by connecting to Yadnex, so I don't know how deep the ties to the KGB/FSB/Russia are. The connection can be blocked. Also, you can change in the paid version. "Full support of Socks v5 and Elite servers". https://www.proxyswitcher.com/

  39. What do you mean by "we"? Who are you speaking for? If you wanted to ask that you are not aware of any *XP-compatible* paid VPN solutions currently available for purchase, then here is the answer of a Frisian. You are wrong, unfortunately. My main OS is Windows XP and I use paid VPN services with no log policy via L2TP/IPSec, OpenVPN and PPTP protocol for years. Therefore, I am on-topic, which seems to be rather a rarity here in this thread.

  40. The quoted article you posted above is about proxy servers and anonymity. This thread is about VPN in Windows XP, though. Conclusion: your posting is off-topic, again, unfortunately. By the way, VPN means Virtual Private Network, and has nothing to do with proxy servers. Truth be told, I usually do not use proxy servers such as anonymous proxies for example but only VPN to get anonymity.

  41. I use paid VPN services with no log policy as described months ago, and therefore I have the ability to choose from a wide range of servers. Only European servers provide good speed for a German or European user. And of course, I mean UK servers, too. Being more specific wouldn't make any sense unless you'd own appropiate licenses for the same services. In any case, the quality of VPN servers varies significantly. And, once again, nearly all "Free VPN" services are compulsorily crap in one way or another. But, as someone here always likes to say:

  42. @D.Draker! Ok, I tried the search function of MSFN, too. Good news, no Russian influence and no operating errors! The search function of MSFN is not satisfying in many cases. I can't find a lot of things at all. Maybe, there is a content filter which does not allow to search for the string "VPN". Or it is too short. Anyway! Simply put, the search function is rather a malfunction in some cases!
    1 point
  43. Did I say German servers? No. I said European servers! I wrote many posts with complete information about all important facts in terms of VPN. For example here: Or here: And here: For more, use the forum search! And, I do not use German servers at all. I choose my European servers carefully. I have more than 20 years of experience and in-depth knowledge of VPN in Windows XP. But that's not what we were talking about in the recent posts.
    1 point
  44. Unfortunately, not. I do not agree with your statement at all. Most paid services do not support Windows XP anymore. L2TP protocol was abandoned by a lot of commercial providers, only PPTP protocol works if at all. Their own clients support only Windows 7 and higher. You can only use OpenVPN 2.5.4 for Windows XP and try their pre-configured files. Servers without a payments are crap in nearly all cases. Sorry, but VPNBook is rather a joke! And, the paid services supporting Windows XP can be counted on one hand. I do have them all (lifetime license but frankly, it's not lifetime, it's rather customer fooling). Anyway, nearly all free VPN services are more or less crap. And by the way, the OP does not want to pay for a VPN service. Not to mention privacy, security and no log policy! Cheers, AstroSkipper

At our local stores most were 2GB and expensive ones - 4GB . I had Toshiba Satellite A50 with 512 of RAM in 2004 and it was NOT a gaming laptop , it was a budget model with Intel graphics and a tiny ATA HDD.
