  10. Well, here it is folks. USB Support for Windows 95 - simplified. This is essentially "NUSB for Windows 95" except for the fact that no USB 2.0 drivers exist for Windows 95. No hoops to jump through. No multiple packages to install. No endless searching for USB storage drivers that work. This package has been a long time in the making, and would not be possible without our good friend rloew, who has created a universal USB storage driver that is Windows 95 compatible. Click here to download: XUSBSUPP.ZIP So without repeating myself, here is the "ReadMe" for the package, which will provide further details. ========================================================= XUSBSUPP - eXtended USB Supplement for Windows 95 OSR 2.x Version 1.0 July 15, 2014 Copyright © 2014 Conner McCoy (LoneCrusader) & Rudolph Loew (rloew) ========================================================= OVERVIEW: This unofficial update package for Windows 95 OSR 2.x (95B and 95C) combines all of the original Microsoft USB Supplement packages and HotFixes ever issued for USB support under Windows 95 along with a universal USB Mass Storage Device driver solution for Windows 95 into one stand alone installer. This package is similar in function and intent to "NUSB" - a popular unofficial update for Windows 98 Second Edition. Once installed, no other third-party drivers will be required for USB Mass Storage devices and they will simply "plug and play" as they do under Windows ME, 2000, or XP. A "Safe Disconnect & Removal" utility is also provided that will appear in the System Tray when a device is connected and functions like Windows ME, 2000, or XP. This package is intended to be used on a new, clean installation of Windows 95 OSR2. It is not recommended for use under other circumstances or conditions and has not been tested under other circumstances or conditions. Do NOT install this package on a system where the original Microsoft USB Supplement (USBSUPP.EXE) has already been installed, as it will DESTROY the backups created for uninstalling the original Microsoft package. ========================================================= INSTALLATION: WITH A NEW INSTALLATION OF WINDOWS: 1.) Install your new Windows 95 OSR2 system. 2.) When Windows 95 SETUP is complete, reboot your system. 3.) When your system has rebooted, open Control Panel, System, Device Manager. 4.) Remove all unknown "Other devices" from the list of hardware. 5.) Run XUSBSUPP.EXE and follow the prompts. 6.) As the system reboots, follow the prompts to install drivers for USB devices. 7.) When the Desktop has loaded, connect a USB Storage Device and proceed as you would with any later version of Windows. WITH AN EXISTING INSTALLATION OF WINDOWS: ***NOTE that this package must not be used with USBSUPP.EXE already installed.*** 1.) If USBSUPP.EXE or any other package that provides USB drivers has been installed, each must be uninstalled and you must reboot before proceeding. 2.) Start with a clean boot of your system. Do not perform any other tasks prior to beginning this installation. 3.) Open Control Panel, System, Device Manager. 4.) Remove all remaining USB devices (if any) and all unknown "Other devices" from the list of hardware. 5.) Run XUSBSUPP.EXE and follow the prompts. 6.) As the system reboots, follow the prompts to install drivers for USB devices. 7.) When the Desktop has loaded, connect a USB Storage Device and proceed as you would with any later version of Windows. ========================================================= UNINSTALLATION: 1.) Open Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs. 2.) Select "eXtended USB Supplement to Windows 95 OSR 2.x" and click "Add/Remove." 3.) Follow the prompts and reboot your system. 4.) Be aware that two empty folders will remain inside your Windows directory, namely \SYSTEM32 and \SYSTEM32\DRIVERS. If these folders are empty they may be safely deleted. 5.) Be aware that copies of USB.INF, RLUSB95.INF, or other INFs contained in this package may exist in the \INF\OTHER folder if placed there by Windows 95. They should be removed manually to prevent confusion if other drivers are used. ========================================================= CONTENTS: This unofficial package contains the following files, listed by the original official update or third-party package that contained them. The file name will be followed by its corresponding version number or in cases where no version number is available the original timestamp will be used. Files that were included in an earlier update and later superseded by a HotFix will be listed under the latest HotFix. Many hours were spent by the authors searching for a compatible driver, and many hours were spent in experimentation trying to get Windows 98-compatible USB 2.0 drivers to load with no success. This package does not provide a driver for USB 3.0, as no such drivers exist for any version of Windows 9x. This package does not provide a driver for USB-HID or USB peripheral devices such as keyboards, mice, or joysticks. While some very early ("embryonic" shall we say) and incomplete work was done in this area by Microsoft (see the Windows NT4 DDK), unfortunately none of the sample driver files provided actually work. If anyone knows how to make the Microsoft files from the DDK work and can successfully demonstrate this, or knows of any working third-party USB peripheral drivers for Windows 95, please inform the authors of this package. This package enables the use of USB-connected optical drives, but does not provide a driver for the UDF filesystem frequently used on CD\DVD\Blu-Ray discs. Visit Rudolph R. Loew's homepage at http://rloew1.no-ip.com for a suitable driver. When unistalling this package, two nested folders will remain in your Windows directory, specifically the folders \SYSTEM32 and \SYSTEM32\DRIVERS. If these folders are empty, they may be safely deleted. This package does not remove them due to a limitation in the Windows 95 version of WININIT.EXE. ========================================================= LICENSE AGREEMENT AND LEGAL ISSUES: This package is provided as free software by Conner McCoy and Rudolph Loew, hereinafter referred to as "authors." 14. Yep, now I'm waiting for a revival of WU v3 - v5 to be a thing so that updating Windows 9x can be easy than using Auto Patcher for 98 SE. Fun Fact I discovered that some of the URLs to download updates for Windows ME (and 98 SE the last time I tried) are still alive, like this update for Windows ME: http://download.microsoft.com/download/winme/Update/22940/WinMe/EN-US/314757USAM.EXE So it looks like some updates for pre-Windows 2000 are still a thing in Microsoft's servers.

  16. Like I already wrote many times, you feel English better than me, of course ! As an example though, I don't think the OP would say something like "I had been damned or doomed." Doomed is more like it would mean the end for him. Like the total end. Hence "bad ending" in the dictionary. He would say more like "I had been cursed or jinxed." When one is jinxed or cursed it can be removed. In theory, of course.

  26. I've visited (virtually) Pennsylvania and have even enjoyed pictures on my computer. I passed through when I was a child. I was born in Maine and left home at 19 to stay with friend in NY throughout the 90's; but the city and lifestyle was killing me and I wound up back here in New England when its quiet again. I mean, it was exciting ( to say the very least ) but I was born in 73 and now I enjoy the quiet and change of season. I do have family all over but I have no contact with them anymore. I never owned a Car so have to rely on others when they come by. I live now in disabled housing, and while its not what I'd hoped for, I'm happy overall as I don't see how people afford to support themselves ... sounds like you're doing well. Glad to have you here and hope you hear more

  31. No ... I have terrible opinion of myself and low self-esteem. But you are right and most of our (both) thoughts and feeling and experiences (for that matter) are ego based. What Is the Ego, and Why Is It So Involved in My Life? The concept of "ego" is among the most confusing in psychology. Posted May 13, 2019 | Reviewed by Jessica Schrader The term ego is as confusing as any in psychology. Not only is the word itself used to refer to several distinct psychological constructs and processes, but the psychological landscape is littered with concepts that include “ego” in one way or another—egotism, ego-defense, egocentrism, superego, ego-involved, and so on. But what does ego actually mean? What are we talking about when we refer to the ego? And what is the difference among all of the terms in which the term ego is embedded? Put simply, the English word "ego" is the Latin word for “I.” Literally translated, ego means “I.” (If you were writing “I love you” in Latin, you’d write ego amo te.) Use of “ego” crept into psychology mostly through the work of Sigmund Freud. In Freud’s theory, the ego is the part of the personality that arbitrates between the animalistic desires of the “id” and the moral and social standards of the “superego.” But, interestingly, the word, “ego” does not appear anywhere in Freud’s extensive writings. He never used it. Rather, ego was a translation of what Freud, writing in German, called "das Ich"—literally “the I." In essence, Freud was referring to that conscious, decision-making part of you that you regard as “I,” as when you say “I dislike my mother” or "I decided to change jobs" or “I dreamt that my house was on fire last night.” That is your I, your ego. So, most terms that include “ego” involve processes or reactions in which I, me, or mine figure prominently. Consider egoism, the motive to act in one’s self-interest. Someone who is behaving egoistically is simply pursuing his or her own goals, as we all do. A motive is egoistic when it’s focused on what “I” want. Source: Mark Leary Or, consider egocentrism. Egocentrism has also been used in a number of ways over the years, but it comes down to perceiving the world and interpreting events from your personal vantage point. We are all inherently egocentric in that we can never break free from either our physical vantage point (I can perceive the world only from my physical location in space) or our personal, psychological perspective that is influenced by our experiences, goals, beliefs, identities, preferences, and biases. People differ in the degree to which they can step outside their own perspective to see things from others’ viewpoints, but we’re all locked into our own egocentric viewpoint because there's no way for us to process information except from our personal frame of reference. Egotism is another common ego-word in psychology. Egotism involves evaluating oneself more favorably than is objectively warranted. Just as we are all egoistic and egocentric, we also tend to be egotistical as well. Thousands of studies show that people are biased to view themselves too positively. Perhaps the broadest ego-based term, egoic, is also the least common, although it is coming into vogue. Egoic simply means “pertaining to ego” or “pertaining to I.” Egoic thoughts, motives, emotions, and behaviors are reactions in which I, me, and mine take center stage. An egoic reaction is one in which I am centrally involved. Much of the time, people’s thoughts, motives, emotions, and behaviors are infused with themselves, with their I. They are thinking consciously about what they want, what they are doing, who they are, what other people think about them, and how things are going for them. In these situations, people are being egoic; they are highly self-absorbed, and their reactions are all about them. article continues after advertisement At other times, people’s thoughts, motives, emotions, and behaviors don’t involve much ego, not much I. When you’re engrossed in a good book, working on an engaging task, having a comfortable conversation, or are in a flow experience, your “I” has receded into the background. You are responding automatically without much conscious self-related thought, and you are not currently concerned about who you are, what you want, or the implications of events for your personal interests and well-being. In these kinds of situations, your responses are not dominated by I or about thoughts of me or mine. We might say that you are being low in egoicism or “hypo-egoic.” Note that egoic has nothing to do with being egotistical. Egotistical people may certainly be egoic, but highly self-critical people may be egoic as well. People who view themselves very negatively, as highly depressed people often do, are often highly focused on themselves and, thus, quite egoic. These terms—egoism, egocentrism, egotism, and egoicism (and their adjectival forms: egoistic, egocentric, egotistical, and egoic)—are easy to confuse. But they refer to different, though sometimes related, ways in which our ego (our focus on "I") can influence our thoughts, motives, emotions, and behaviors. (((((((((((((((((((((((((( Some of us believe (myself included) in death and when we leave this level of consciousness, in the next realm life would be without ego or raw emotion(s)

  34. Unexpected news! The unbelievable has come true. I would never have thought that this was possible. I have always been annoyed that my self-written custom buttons for the old, legacy UXP browsers like Firefox 52, Pale Moon, New Moon, Serpent, and so on can no longer be used in Mypal 68. The reason for this is that the extension Custom Buttons is a legacy extension and only compatible with the already mentioned UXP browsers, actually. I emphasize actually! For months, I've been searching on and off for a solution to still be able to use these custom buttons in Mypal 68. And what can I say? My persistence seems to have been rewarded now. As it looks at the moment, I managed to install a modified version of the extension Custom Buttons in Mypal 68. Some additional changes in Mypal 68 were also still necessary for this, of course. Furthermore, I have been able to successfully install my custom button "Toggle CSF" via this modified extension in Mypal 68. As far as I can see, both, the extension Custom Buttons and my custom button "Toggle CSF" which I already posted for the UXP browsers here https://msfn.org/board/topic/183923-extensions-and-custom-buttons-for-uxp-browsers-corrections-modifications-adjustments-and-special-recommendations/?do=findComment&comment=1229561, work fine and are fully functional in Mypal 68. If you don't immediately understand what's so special about all this, just try installing the extension Custom Buttons in Mypal 68 yourself, and you will see! Here is a screenshot of my installations as proof: More on this topic soon. Will have to investigate and test it all in more detail first! Of course, it takes a little time, and unfortunately I still have to take it easy to finally get rid of this damn cough. So, stay tuned if interested! Cheers, AstroSkipper

  38. It kind of depends on how many web sites that you visit. I visit basically 30 to 50 web sites. Over and over again throughout the year. If I visited that many UNIQUE web sites each and every week, then a DIFFERENT set next week, et cetera, then using uMatrix would consume too much time. But for my 30 to 50, I "set it and forget it".

  42. This thread is just too predestined to discuss politics and religion, which is however forbidden in this forum. Politics and religion are always the drivers of all evil. Whether it is poor education or war, everything can be traced back to politics and religion. But unfortunately, any deeper consideration would violate the forum rules.

I do not know if that had any effect, but.. when I rebooted the url mentioned above worked so I am able to access domain management. Not sure if maybe something in windows stopped working correctly....causing the url stuck at loading..
