  1. @user57 Thanks a lot for your SumatraPDF builds. It is by far my favorite PDF reader. Version 3.3.3 has good support for annotations, the upgrade is very significant for me compared to your previous 3.3 build. I think those builds deserves their own thread on MSFN, I was really lucky to find them out. Maybe you could fork the main Git and distribute binaries over there? Krzysztof Kowalczyk has a quite reasonable release rate, so it would not be very difficult to keep up for the XP builds. This would also help other people to build it for themself, it is opensource software after all. Also if you inform Krzysztof Kowalczyk, about your builds after forking his repo, he might even link it to the main page as unofficial XP builds, alongside the old 3.1.2. What do you think?

  2. Unfortunately, yes. I don't know, AFAIK it's an over decade old quirk (from MS point of view it's probably by design) and computers have only gotten more powerful since. https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/0c02f2cb-39cd-4f2d-bd4e-154fd2165b69/my-wallpaper-gets-badly-compressed?forum=w7itproui

  4. Here is the reddit thread of other uBock Origin users (not me, I use uMatrix) having a great dislike for the mobile GUI introduced with version 1.27.0 -- https://www.reddit.com/r/uBlockOrigin/comments/gk56f9/ublock_origin_1270_with_interface_redesign_is_out/ Stick with version 1.26.0 (or 1.26.2), it does everything that the "new" version does and it renders fonts properly on XP. "Newer" is not better... But look who I'm tellin', you're not even running Service Pack 3

  5. Only other suggestion I have is to "upgrade" to this version of uBlock Origin -- https://www.crx4chrome.com/crx/200354/ edit: above link is for 1.26.0 Here's a link for 1.26.2 -- https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/releases/tag/1.26.2

  6. Maybe so, but it makes a good point! Since we're making "useless" posts today, I've noticed another, similar kind of post almost as much as those switch to Linux posts, and even had a CS instructor* go on about it: "throw out your old PC and buy a new one with Windows 10!" I do NOT see any point in throwing out a perfectly fine PC just because it's 4 years old, just to get a new one which that may not have the features I like, and probably won't run the software I want because Windows 10 won't run them (this, I admit, is rare-ish, but it happens). c *I went out of my way to run a Latitude D630 (from 2008) with Windows 2000 to make the point that one need not upgrade to the newest hardware and software to get things done (I did eventually upgrade it to XP, but the point was still valid because XP was only released one year later than 2000; because XP had such a long service life, it has become extremely mature and as a result, supports an unusually wide range of hardware (everything from the earliest Pentium Pros to at least Haswell, or Skylake and up with some ACPI patching and creative workarounds for some hardware that lacks XP drivers), and has at least some support for a lot of modern conveniences).

  9. This is my first post here. Hello everybody. Much respect. Hello Roytam1. I'm here because Feodor kinda derived all the Maypal issue on you, here on this topic of this forum. So I wanted to ask if you are going to continue the Maypal fork. I have tested the last Newmoon and Basilisk releases but many addons are not working and some sites like Mega won't load, giving the message "browser outdated". I am not having this issues at all with the last Maypal release but I feel kinda lost thinking about the future. I could represent what I think all Maypal users are feeling right now. Thanks in advance.

  10. I was tired to update my batch files for every new Win 11 ISO, so the following will pick the first matching iso: WinNTSetup_x64.exe NT6 -source:E:\ISOs\22*.iso RunAfter does not have wildcard support. Variables can be accessed in a batch: %_build% %_drivers% %_source% %_syspart% %_tempdrive%

  11. Yeah, the thing about that theme you are using is that it has a very little animation for the refresh button (only 4 frames). You might want to change to the "Chrome" theme that has a larger animation integrated. To change it go to the "User Data --> Default" path and search for a file called "Preferences". Open it with a Text Editor and then search for a "jisu9" entry (if I remember correctly there is only one) and change the "jisu9" entry by "jisu9_chrome" (or to "jisu9_dark" for the dark theme if you want to test it). Cheers.

  12. i saw the sumatra author already made a 3.3.3 version the code to apply was easy there was no big differens https://www.file-upload.net/download-14660525/3.3.3.zip.html i wrote you a personal message you might could try what i wrote if thats the problem a other solution would be a direct contact and look where the code actually really fails the message is multiple times in the sumatra pdf code, cant make the conclusion only with that (that message is also not directly at the load of the the jpg files, it also would have failed at a different spot) that release is new enough i think the latest compatible version was in 2015 now its 08/2021 the 3.3.3 version is from 07/2021 while windows 11 is from 06/2021, the compiler version 16.10 is also 07/2021

  13. Lots of absolute hell in the changelog. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-11-specifications A lot of it i never used, but some in there really p**s me off. Alignment to the bottom of the screen is the only location allowed Apps can no longer customize areas of the taskbar News and Interests has evolved Basically this means goodbye to taskbar on any other side of the screen (SOMETHING THAT HAS EXISTED SINCE 95) and possibly taskbar customization like Open Shell, StartIsBack and 7+ Taskbar Tweaker if we cannot customize the taskbar anymore with 3rd party apps. As well as that, News and Interests was ruined in just a month. It was somewhat decent on the taskbar but now you need a touchscreen to get somewhere to it, unless you keep Widgets. PLUS, the taskbar now default center is going to cause so many headaches with friends and family. It really should default to the left because the majority of Windows users prefer it that way and have used it that way for 24 years. Centered taskbar is a very, very, very isolated feature that I believe should be something you set, not something that IS set.

  14. Going way back, in the life of Windows 7, there have been problems with Windows Updates. As a working Computer Tech, I've been called on to FIX PC's that have been trashed or otherwise compromised by an automatic Windows Update. Some PC's were so badly damaged that a total RE-Install of Win-7 had to be performed. As a result, I turned OFF Windows Update on all those PC's as well as my own. I'm still using Windows 7/Pro/64 today, and Windows Update remains "Disabled" and my Windows 7 runs just fine. So what's the big deal about getting windows update? If you look, you can find Windows 7 available on the web, complete with all the latest updates, Media Player, and Internet Explorer. No spam, no viruses, and NO BS. "Life is more fun, when you know how it works" !

  15. To minimize telemetry, try Vista. To avoid telemetry, try Vista. To make Win 10 or even 8.1 look like 7, try Vista.
