  1. Due to the doubts and the incipient erroneous articles published on the Internet saying that Windows XP does not have updated browsers, I open this post indicating the complete information on all the companies or software programmers that make versions of browsers compatible with Windows XP. But first it is necessary to clarify some fundamental concepts. The first is that today there are only 2 Internet browser projects for Windows. The Chromium project and the Mozilla foundation. No, the basic existing browsers are not Google Chrome, Opera, Firefox and Microsoft Edge. Opera abandoned its own "Presto" browser engine in 2012, Microsoft stopped developing its own browser known as Internet Explorer in 2015 & and later stopped developing its own motor in Edge in 2019. Now both the Opera browser and Microsoft's browser are based on the Chromium project. An open source database for developing a web browser, maintained by various companies that later use the source code to create their own version of the browser with additional features. Google develops Chrome and Microsoft develops Edge, same as multiple companies using the same codebase as above, for example Opera. None of these companies develops versions compatible with Windows XP but many others do, for many they are unknown companies but in China they generally work with Windows XP due to the delicacy of the manufacturing processes and the independent control provided by this operating system. By not needing direct connections with Microsoft and therefore with the US Government. There are many Chinese browsers based on both Chromium and Mozilla, the Chromium versions come with telemetry for the Chinese Government to know which websites you visit (Google also does it for the USA and stronger) but there are modified versions that have this capacity removed . There are also browsers from other places but they are less developed such as Otter Browser or RetroZilla. Based on Mozilla we can also find updated browsers even for Windows 2000, although for this system they have not passed the beta phase as forks of K-Meleon and PaleMoon developed by Roytam1. Sin embargo for Windows XP you can find several browsers modified to work on this operating system, whose versions are continuously updated. These come in English and many can be patched in another language. For Windows XP I recommend using the English Chromium-based versions, especially 360 Extreme Explorer modified version without telemetry, due to their speed compared to Mozilla-based browsers. User interface can be found in English and in Chinese. Multilanguage only come with Kafan MiniBrowser (except installer), Maxthon and UC Browser. If we want to view the web pages in other specific languages, we must also modify the language in which we want to view them by default. To work with Chromium it is essential that we understand the Windows certificate system, since the https web pages display depends on our Windows certificates being up to date. While for Mozilla-based browsers it is not necessary, since they are integrated into the browser itself and it is not necessary to update them independently. To update the Windows XP certificates, download a package updated by the Japanese @blackwingcat on its Windows Legacy Update website: http://win2k.org/wlu/wluen.htm We go to the manual update section and look for certificates. Unzip the file with 7-Zip or WinRar and then install it. Note: The files on this website come in a format that I have not been able to use in Spanish XP, even discussing it with the author. They may work in other languages but if not don't worry, unzip with 7-zip and install. Below I indicate which are the best developments for Windows XP and its base code version in April 2022. 2. Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 Client no longer gets definition updates. I have used this prog for more than 10 years now, first version 11, then 12... It was a solid AV/firewall combo, too bad Broadcom decided to finally pull the plug on the WinXP... It was good while it lasted :-)

  3. Good and - in order to add idiocy to idiocy - the first link in your search result reads: (emphasis is mine) which could be something I could write (I mean, myself personally, NOT one of the primary software related companies in the world) on my personal blog because I cannot understand how to format the html or how to configure a database search, or the rendering engine or *whatever* or because I have limited access to some site settings. jaclaz

  6. Maybe they do, I think most of China's population is stuck on Windows XP because of the lightness compared to other more recent OS (for their computers that are not so powerful and they can't upgrade for whatever reason), and if that Chinese company wants to keep storing the data of those citizens I think it's a good option to keep working on XP.

  7. It sounds like Logitech isn’t very good at ending support for old Windows versions!? Is installation of 2021.5 blocked on Windows 7? (Maybe they just forgot about Vista?) Keep an eye out for any issues with that version. People will want to know the last usable version and you seem to be MSFN’s leading authority on G HUB.

  8. https://www.mediafire.com/file/kloo2vv9f3six00/VistaMod.7z/file Try that one, i compress it with 7zip-zstd so maybe that was the problem. Idk if its going to work on your 1060, try the 373.06 driver, seems to be the last one to fully support nvidia, also the files are 64bits. Sadly most games that i try aren't supported by vista, i try subnautica subzero and i think that its the same fps as w7

  10. The Liebao portable link seems to be dead. Also, there is a browser called "MiniBrowser" that works in XP - it was mentioned in the 360Chrome thread, if I recall, not positive.

  12. It is an interesting question, to which you already answered yourself, but - unfortunately -"wrongly". If you delete the contents and save the cleared file you are not shredding anything. Please follow me. Let's say that your file was originally (for the sake of the example) any size bigger than 1024 bytes (i.e. normally 2 sectors) and smaller than 4 kB (i.e. the common size of a NTFS filesystem cluster), assume 1200 bytes. At filesystem level the smallest accessible unit is the cluster, i.e. your file is addressed (more or less) with these info/instructions: 1) cluster #123456 is occupied (all 4096 bytes in it are cluster #4096) 2) it is occupied by a filed called "mynicefile.txt" 3) the length of this file is 1200 bytes When you ask Notepad (or similar) to open that file, the instructions the OS and filesystem driver perform are roughly: 1) get to the beginning of cluster #123456 2) read 1200 bytes (the length of the file) from that start position When you simply Save (in Notepad or similar) the file without modifications the instructions the OS and filesystem driver perform are roughly: 1) get to the beginning of cluster #123456 2) write 1200 bytes (the current length of the file) from that start position Once you open the file in notepad in it, select all, delete, then save, the instructions the OS and filesystem driver perform are roughly: 1) get to the beginning of cluster #123456 2) write 0 bytes (the current length of the file) from that start position So, no shredding of sorts happens, the whole contents of the file are still on cluster #123456, only they are not anymore addressed/indexed (as the length of the file is now 0 bytes). Now, if you have a 1200 bytes file, you open it, and replace each character with a random one (or with a fixed one, whatever) and save, as long as the file after the edit is 1200 bytes, then the whole length of the previously saved file will be overwritten, and you will have sort of "shredded" the file contents. An even more interesting question (that you didn't ask) is another one: What happens if I write a .txt file around 700 bytes in length, save it, then continue typing until I reach 1200 bytes, save again, then decide to re-open it and "shred" it by replacing every character in it with something else and save again? Surprisingly, on NTFS (on a common 512 bytes/sector device) the answer is that the original (roughly 700 bytes in length) file is "carved in stone" (in the $MFT) and can still be integrally recovered. On new disks with 4096 bytes/sector the size of the file becomes around 3700 bytes https://www.forensicfocus.com/forums/general/mft-resident-data/ https://www.forensicfocus.com/forums/general/mft-resident-data/#post-6565939 https://www.forensicfocus.com/forums/general/delete-file-in-safe-way/#post-6587693 jaclaz

  14. So I revisited Vista since it now has the extended kernel and I was trying to get my 1050 to work, i think I got it to work but I haven't tested many games. Before it was the same as described here, 5 fps max, absolute garbage. So basically try modding 375.63 or 373.06 adding the kernel from 372.70. I add the files in the link https://www.mediafire.com/file/kloo2vv9f3six00/VistaMod.7z/file DX9 DX11
