  1. Hey, everyone - looks like the clocks are rolling forward next week: Posting this here, since I know all the people in Windows 10 land will be completely ignorant of this. Hey, it's Windows 10 - you don't get what you didn't pay for - or what you did pay for! Seriously, I can only imagine what the Windows 10 product managers were thinking: Bob: We don't want the operating system to be too intrusive - let's take out the Daylight Savings nag so people don't get annoyed. Alice: Great idea! Let's send updates to all the Windows 7 users to tell them how awesome Windows 10 is and how to get their free upgrade!

  2. Here, you will find a list of software compatible with Windows Vista, after installing the new extended kernel by Win32. As this project is very new, this list will remain quite short for the time being. List: BeamNG.Drive 0.16 and later Chromium versions 53-73 beta (later versions currently do not work) Firefox "classic" versions 53-56 Firefox Quantum version 57 and later GIMP 2.10.18 Google Earth 7.3.3 and later Interlink Mail client Logitech Gaming Software 9.02 Opera 44 (later versions currently do not work) Palemoon 28.x Rocket League Thunderbird versions 53 and later Waterfox Classic Waterfox Current Whatsapp I will continue to update this list as more software is made compatible. Feel free to contribute your own additions in the form of a reply to the topic, and I will add them ASAP.

  3. There are many reasons Windows 7 is an objectively superior OS to Windows 10 and why I will use it until I die. This is one of them: Naturally, Windows 10 users won't get this notification. That would, you know, actually improve the UX, so that would be anti-Windows 10. Guess you'll have to wait for the Sunday paper to tell you what you missed.

  4. Just an FYI that NortonLifeLock has reversed its decision and is planning to continue delivering SDS (virus) definitions and other protection updates to the legacy version of Norton Security v22.15.x for Win XP and Vista beyond 28-Feb-2021. See NortonLifeLock employee Gayathri_R's announcement today (08-Mar-2021) at Maintenance Mode for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 SP0 for Norton Security Software, which states in part: ---------- 32-bit Vista Home Premium SP2 * Firefox ESR v52.9.0 * Malwarebytes Premium v3.5.1-1.0.365 HP Pavilion dv6835ca, Intel Core2Duo T5550 @ 1.83 GHz, 3 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS

  5. Check in BIOS setup and disable all the hardware you can, leave only the HDD you're installing to. Did you try booting Win98 after the BSOD? Maybe it would skip some problematic steps on the second try...

  6. maybe because of the settings? or because the inf/cfg files are already inplace, in vista there are instances where those files wont be created.

  7. Shouldn't need one. Before enabling ICS, get the network working. You will need a cross-over cable or two normal cables plus a hub or better. Win10 Help should have many articles and tutorials. Search on "ics".

  8. <OT> Official link from author: http://browser.taokaizen.com/download/Advanced_Chrome_Windows_v54.20.6530.0.zip I'm out of breath in these forums saying that, in reality, Advanced Chrome v54 is NOT actually Chromium 54, but more of Chromium 48 under the hood... The percentage of Ch54 in it is quite small (just like Serpent 55 is actually, originally, a fork of Firefox 53.0a1, not Firefox 55.0!) ... Also, from https://browser.taokaizen.com/ 05 - Jan - 2018 .- Updated Custom Build to 54.20.6530.0 New on version 54.20.6530.0: Crash bug fix. Removed dynamic user agent, you can install Chrome UA Spoofer extension to change it. Not vulnerable versus Meltdown and Spectre. ... meaning that AdvChr54 advertises itself to YT as Ch54, not Ch48/49, and is thus being served incompatible polymers... I have an existing old installation of User-Agent Switcher for Chrome v1.1.0, by setting up a new custom UA of Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.0) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/49.0.2623.112 Safari/537.36 naming it Chrome 49 [C49] and using that as a general UAO, yt then loads (after a wait of 10 - 20s, that is...) : However, if you haven't installed said extension in the past, you're just out of luck: Evil Google have recently (2021-01-19) re-uploaded it on CWS as a CRX3 only package, meaning it won't install now (you can try the archived file on https://www.crx4chrome.com/crx/515/ ). If the XP people want a current-ish Chromium engine, please use the Chinese-made, Russian re-packed, versions of 360 Extreme Explorer 11/12/13 (see relevant XP forum threads) ... </OT>

  9. <OT> According to https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/viewClient.html?name=Chrome&version=49&platform=XP SP3 Google Chrome 49 under fully updated XP SP3 should support the TLSv1.2 protocol, BUT with a limited number of cipher suites; supporting the protocol natively is one thing, but supporting ciphers to go with it is another ; Chrome 49 relies on OS crypto libraries for ciphers and the OS cert store for root certificates; XP doesn't support ECC suites and SNI, these two handicaps limit even more the amount of HTTPS sites that can be accessed... PS: Just compare the record of Ch49/XPSP3 (above) to Ch49/Win7 (below): https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/viewClient.html?name=Chrome&version=49&platform=Win 7 </OT>

  13. Hello all, in this poll I would like to ask which are the best/worst versions of Office in your opinion. IMO, the best is Office 2010.2007, 2000 and 2003 closely follow (in descending order).

  14. GT/GTX 10 Series does not have drivers for XP so performance will be very nearly 0. Vista performance with 10 series is crippled. If memory serves, DirectX performance is miserable. Any 10 series will work fine with 7, though. Perhaps you should consider a GTX 980ti. It works wonderfully with XP, Vista, and 7, and is only a bit slower than a 1080 would be.

  16. There is also another way to do it. It's pretty roundabout, but it works even with machines with more than 1GB of RAM. You can install Win98 in a VM, then apply rloew's RAM patch to it and copy the patched VMM32.VXD from SYSTEM folder and VMM.VXD and VCACHE.VXD from the SYSTEM\VMM32 folder to a separate storage device, like a USB stick. Then, after you proceed with the installation on the system you wish to install Win98 to and finish its first phase (the one with Windows 3.1 UI), when it asks you to reboot you do it and instead of booting into HDD(and continuing with the installation) you should boot from a boot disk. Then you'll have to replace the files in the SYSTEM and SYSTEM\VMM32 folders on the install machine with the patched ones. Proceed with the installation after that.

  17. I'm feeling : (Somewhat) Good. I know MSFN is an awesome forum (no other forum has been like this) with lots of wise people who are ready to help noobs and enthusiasts (I'm a PC enthusiast and not a complete noob) but some people pick fights within topics and that brings the discussion to nowhere, and this is frustrating. Someone (not going to name that person) has already fought with me, misunderstood me and is now very hostile but I don't care as it's not my fault if he misunderstands me. I'm hoping that this behaviour is discouraged. This is all I ask.

  18. Windows 8.1 does this as well. I really hate Windows 10 UI in general. I like aero, but I also like colorful borders that Windows 8.1 has. Windows 10 is just ugly.

  19. Nobody has updated the main list for over a decade, so here's my importing of softwares: https://retrosystemsrevival.blogspot.com/p/latest-versions-of-software-working-on_20.html There is a lot more to be added for the sake of preservation. I still need to color-code, fix alphabetical order, and import a lot of software.

  20. Of course! With all due respect, you young people are too much sensitive nowadays. Aggressiveness one gets from a drill sgnt. Destro is slightly rough, but he only gave you reality with no frills. Getting any rather recent motherboard running XP (and worse, XP x64) nowadays is a hard, frustrating and time demanding task. If someone is hard at work with it, we'll always offer suggestions, propose tests and help troubleshooting. But it cannot be done in abstract. Thats about it.

  21. I don't join many forums anymore. I used to back in the day. I was a Pokemon fan back in the day as well so I bet I joined about 3 non-popular ones and one high profile one. I've also joined several ToZ of forums which I'm still a fan of the series to this day obviously. Then here. I've been a mod and admin at several of them as well. And for a few years I owned my own vBulletin forum which I ran and had a few friends as admins as well until we just let it go since it wasn't getting the traffic anymore like it used to.
