  1. Dropbox links still work, but only after you modify them like this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zjkrwoupc5vr4sx/screenshot_test.png?dl=0 Has to be changed to: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/zjkrwoupc5vr4sx/screenshot_test.png Has to be clicked on however; doesn't display. And then do "insert image from URL".

  2. Well I'm glad that experiment worked anyway! I'm still suspicious of quotations here. That last post you link to I cannot edit either, and the only thing I can see perhaps slightly unusual about it is that it contains split quotations. Now there's absolutely no reason why you shouldn't be able to do that of course, but I am wondering if the system doesn't like it for some reason.

  4. I finally got my driver to work in 256 color mode! However, it locks up the system when changing resolution or color depth. I'm also having issues with SoftICE not handling resolution changes correctly. Whenever my driver changes the screen resolution, SoftICE's output becomes garbled and unreadable.

  5. I no longer use NM27. My browser usage is 98% 360Chrome version 13 build 2206, 1.5% BNavigator, and 0.5% Mypal 27.9.4. I grew impatient of bugs in NM27 pointed out over two years ago still remaining unresolved. And too much of the internet is so focused on "Chrome" that I felt it was finally time to jump on that bandwagon. But only after extensive tests as I did not want to throw blind trust at anything Chinese or Russian. Not to conjure up any images of Rocky Balboa versus Ivan Drago

  6. Thanks, it is now snowing here! The only thing I can see at all odd in that post is that there appears to be what looks like part of a quotation box at the very bottom left. I wouldn't expect to see that, so maybe something is corrupted in the code for that post.

  8. There could be a resource conflict. The display driver is installed first before the network card so did you try removing the NIC while SDD is working then install it again? With SDD I think that the original OS OpenGl.dll has to be removed/renamed.

  9. I think this is not caused by the forum update, but something outside (say, http server software, operating system, etc.) since it acted normally in 31 Jan.

  10. Have you verified in https://msfn.org/board/attachments/ that you still have eligible attachments space? The cumulative size of your MSFN file attachments must not exceed 1.95MB... I use imgur myself: https://imgur.com/upload NB: if you prefer the older GUI, much lenient on older hardware, create the following two cookie files { "domain": ".imgur.com", "expirationDate": 3808238400.6028, "hostOnly": false, "httpOnly": false, "name": "frontpagebetav2", "path": "/", "sameSite": "unspecified", "secure": false, "session": false, "storeId": "0", "value": "0" } { "domain": ".imgur.com", "expirationDate": 3808238400.6028, "hostOnly": false, "httpOnly": false, "name": "postpagebeta", "path": "/", "sameSite": "unspecified", "secure": false, "session": false, "storeId": "0", "value": "0" } then import and protect them via a cookie extension (several exist); once the photo upload succeeds, from the opened page choose Copy -> Get Share links -> BBCode (Forums) -> Copy : [img=https://i.imgur.com/uosmAtz.jpg] However, I suspect many of your issues are caused by your use of NM27, which isn't fully compatible with MSFN 2021...

  14. I've come to the opposite conclusion over the years. Sadly most files at external hosters tend to get lost very soon, while forum attachments survive as long as the forums. Unless of course, if some users exchange them all the time for lack of space. Perhaps a mixed strategy would be best, external hosters for only temporarily interesting stuff, and forum hosting for longterm important screenshots. And of course, I keep seeing tons of giant full-screen shots which could easily be cropped to the relevant parts. (Little plea: everyone using those &%$ embedded iframes for crossposting, I mean linking between 2 msfn posts, please consider adding additionally a plain normal link. Otherwise such links are completely invisible and inaccessible for lots of users, especially with older versions) (bugtest edit-4) .

  15. @ArcticFoxie , @we3fan Being signed-in, just load: https://msfn.org/board/attachments/ There you'll see that as a "free" MSFN member, you're only entitled to a maximum size of ca. 2MB of file attachments: I can't seem to be able to find the link now, but, AIUI, once you make significant donation(s) and/or become an MSFN sponsor, that attachment quota may be upped, but, as @UCyborg said, the best thing to do is use external image/media/text hosters and use here just the "Forum share" links...

  19. I also have to share that Win8.1 works flawlessly on a cheap MacBook Air clone that I with a Pentium n4200 (Apollo Lake CPU based on Kaby Lake CPUs) with all drivers (installed using Driver Booster) except the Intel HD Graphics 505 driver. The stock MS Basic Display Adapter driver is used, and mysteriously, Aero Glass for Win8+ works! Windows 10 was sloooooooooow on that laptop, compared to 8.1 which is a lot faster.

  21. The irony of my enthusiasm for Windows XP is that, originally, I didn't want to use a XP machine as a personal computer. I was still in high school and the family computer ran 98; I did a lot of DOS gaming back then and so I fretted over losing the ability to play games and use programs I liked by switching to XP. On the other hand, I personally had the roughest OS experience with 98, though that's likely because, being a family computer, I shared the 98 machine with people a lot more careless than me when it comes to computer security. (I've hung onto the family's first IBM-PC, a Gateway P5-120 running Windows 95, so I can still enjoy DOS gaming and run DOS and 16-bit programs.) However, I wound up getting a Gateway XP machine as a graduation present. I quickly grew to like XP for the simple fact that I rarely ever had any software-related BSoDs. In all my years of using XP (and then XP64) the vast majority of BSoDs and system issues I've encountered have been due to failing hardware and not an issue with the operating system. For the most part, the times XP did go off the rails, it's because of something I know I did. And for the most part, I've been able to fix those mistakes without resorting to a wipe-and-reinstall. Similar to my concerns over losing the ability to run DOS programs, I was resistant to upgrading to Vista. In fact, I deliberately sought out and purchased an OEM installation disc for XP64 on Newegg back in 2008, when an aforementioned hardware failure necessitated overhauling my computer entirely. I figured going XP64 (and yeah, I was already aware of XP64's reputation for lack of software/driver support) would future-proof my machine once computing truly moved to the 64-bit era. (Alas, I didn't account for APIs ...) Also, having a 64-bit operating system that used less memory than Vista and future Windows OSes (XP64 needs at minimum 256 MB; Vista, 512 MB but 1 GB recommended) meant that I had more memory for multi-tasking and the sort of memory-intensive work that I do, namely multimedia production. XP64's rep for lack of driver/software support hasn't really been an issue for me. There's only been two notable exceptions, both games: Civilization 4 and Phantasy Star Online 2; in the latter case, Sega seemed to *specifically* deny XP64 the ability to run any PSO2- related executable. But out of over a decade's use of XP64, those have been the only issues with programs during XP's support cycle. (Of course, programs made after support ended are another story.) The good folks here at MSFN have really helped in keeping XP64 viable in these post-support days. I'm especially grateful for guys like @Sampei.Nihira who have called to attention vulnerabilities and security threats and how to protect against them; it was through him I found out about NoVirusThanks' OSArmor, which I now use on all of my machines, XP and not. In recent years, following hardware failure in the 2008 setup, my girl got an overhaul using some of the best hardware available to a SABERTOOTH X99-based system, thanks to @XP-x64-Lover's efforts in sourcing drivers. (She's now got maxed out with 128 GB of RAM, by the way, which are XP64's natural limits as well as that of the X99 chipset.) And according to one of my friends ... my enthusiasm/stubbornness over using XP has a Steve Jobs-like "reality distortion field" that's been enticing others to do the same!

  22. @VistaLover You must consider looking into buying a Sandy/Ivy Bridge i5/i7 laptop (any Lenovo Thinkpad, Dell Latitude/HP Probook/Elitebook). They will give you the best value for the money you can buy them for on Ebay or some seconds market. They have full support for Vista. You can avoid spending lots more on newer craptops that support Win10 and Linux only.

  23. I created a Windows XP X86 Spanish repository with all critical updates for Windows XP. I included also IE8 and WMP11, but I didn't include updates for those products. It just has the unofficial Spanish SP4 and the updates released after 31 mar 2012. I also included the txt where I found the links, I think all the files are archived on Waibac Machine. Here are the links to the repository. https://www.mediafire.com/file/ymsgagqz120zj9k/XP+UpdatesESN.zip/file http://web.archive.org/save/https://download1350.mediafire.com/ub9uev0co7dg/ymsgagqz120zj9k/XP+UpdatesESN.zip
