To everyone: sorry for not updating this thread when I said I would. I'll be going through my external HDD and uploading all of the updates I have onto Mega. This includes the Windows ME updates provided by @RoboSkirt (seriously, much appreciated!) and some (not all) Windows 95 and 98 updates in Portuguese. I manage to scavenge a lot of them through archive.org and a heap of other collections. These include: Internet Explorer 4.01 SP2 Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2 Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 Windows Media Player 6.4 Windows Media Player 7.1 Windows Media Player 9 You get the picture. I've also got Windows POSReady 2009 updates, since that has also gone EOL in the meantime. Windows 2000 also includes a whole lot of Hotfixes not released on regular Windows Update.2 points

I have already looked at what functions it needs and there were only a few missing in ntoskrnl. I also noticed that it requires WinUSB. Both of these will be added to KernelXE when they are confirmed working.2 points

That is possibly due to it detecting Vista. I believe that it will refuse to update if it detects XP/Vista. The fix is to set NT 6.1 in Application Verifier (which will also fix Aero Glass in Opera instead of that XP appeasing junk).2 points

Since it is working fine, I added it to the folder but haven't decided to update the installer yet.2 points

Please switch to another provider. It's the embodiment of modern web design hell. Requires a recent version of Chrome to work properly, downloads the entire file into RAM, and evidently y'know, isn't going to be nice on legacy systems. At all. JDownloader2 is also not the solution. It's a horribly cobbled up piece of software with a malware-esque installer, written in a language developed currently by a company that is beyond untrustable when it comes to the FOSS scene (messing up everything they've touched except VirtualBox essentially), and for some reason it won't bother to respond to half the UI options. Maybe it's just me. Sorry, this is absolutely necessary it's something that's really been bugging me for ages, hence the whole thing originally being in capitals... It's also worth noting MEGA is really popular in the software piracy community because its owner basically doesn't care, it offers a lot of storage for a free platform that doesn't bother to monitor its files and it comes from MegaUpload's owner so yeah, ethics here are 'making money off a bad user service for direct downloads of pirated content' once again. Like its predecessor it's equally garbage, it seems, I remember MegaUpload years and years ago back when the main 3 were it, RapidShare and MediaFire, only the last of which still exists and is actually a pretty viable alternative upload site these days since it still works over HTTP, isn't too horrible ad-wise compared to the likes of its old ilk from back then, etc. Alternatives I can think of MediaFire (this one works over HTTP in fact); Dropbox (remember to link with the parameter ?dl=1 as older browsers would just break); Yandex.Disk (using a HTTP web proxy will let you DL files even in IE8 really easily); Google Drive (not a fan because Google monopolises everything but hey); zz.ht (for smaller files ~100MiB as the owner messed stuff up, is based off pomf software)1 point

There, the Mega link is updated. Enjoy Since this update repository is now a bit more generic and not necessarily NT 5.x oriented, I'm not sure if the topic should be moved. I'll leave it up to the moderators to decide it. Also, I don't know how to put a link in spoiler tags, but I think they would be appropriate for the repo link. If anyone wants to tell me how to do it, I'd appreciate it.1 point

Thank you very much for this! Your work is really helpful to the portuguese software preservation/retro gaming community. Sadly most of these updates were lost time and this is the only place where we can find them as of now. A few weeks ago I also found this Portuguese Multilingual User Interface Pack for Server 2003 64 here: https://vl463l.s.cld.pt It also installs on XP 64 but only translates some UI elements while the rest stays in english. Not sure if it's worth something or if you already got it but it's here. Feel free to add it to your updates repository. Once again, thanks very much for providing us this rare updates in the Camões language :D1 point

I didn't switch to XP until 2010, updated from Windows 2000, as 2000 was getting harder and harder to use as so many things had become incompatible with it. I therefore went straight to Professional Service Pack 3. The UIs were very similar of course between 2000 and XP, and could be made to look pretty much the same, and it's still my favourite UI to use, still set to this day to look like the Windows 98 UI, which I still use as well! I have Windows 10 on the machine as well (the specs are in my signature) and I've got used to the Windows 10 UI, with the help of Classic Shell (now Open Shell), but it will never be as good IMO.1 point

Just made a 2046 MB VHD with same partition layout and installed on Compact LZX mode my Mini-10x64 on it and it Rambooted flawlessly on UEFI, This probes I was right when I said there is a 2 GB limit imposed to items loaded on Ram on versions grub4dos-0.4.6a_for_UEFI-2020-11-26 and 2020-12-05 I opened an issue on https://github.com/chenall/grub4dos/issues Related to can't map --mem more than 2 GB on Ram: https://github.com/chenall/grub4dos/issues/248 alacran1 point

Weird. I did the same things as you. Removing opera took away the aero glass, but putting it back also put the glass. And also, it appears that CryptRetrieveTimeStamp and CryptVerifyTimeStampSignature need to be added to crypt32 to get LibreOffice 7.0.3 to work. I'll get on that.1 point

You have to set it for opera.exe. Also, Application Verifier was purged when MS removed non-SHA-2 signed downloads: http://web.archive.org/web/20200802190511/https://download.microsoft.com/download/B/6/D/B6D4DF81-0C26-4BA5-BD57-50B7C0935421/ApplicationVerifier.amd64.msi Some people were speculating if the SHA-2 deprecation had something to do with the extended kernel release...1 point

I also modified an existing function to make it more true to the Windows 7 equivalent. It appears that this modification didn't go as planned, so that part has been reverted (the new function remains) and the file updated.1 point

Most thankfully , you decided not to merge official issue #1684 changes, so perhaps, for clarity, you should've added that in the "reversals" of your latest UXP builds, e.g.: - Reverted "Issue #1684 - Move global user-agent override to networking component. (b863bd2ed)" Your praiseworthy efforts are highly appreciated once again !1 point

I added that function. Seems to be have some issues which prevent Opera 72 from launching with sandbox for now, but it works fine with --no-sandbox.1 point

Any idea why x86 systems don't have that problem with Haswell ? By the way , I'm not sure if you remeber , back in the day (I think in 2007 Vista already had the exact same black screen of death on some systems , they even had a patch , but it was deleted from servers. It had the SAME logon failure error. Some people wrote that the reason was the changed activation process , I do not know if that's true . I never had it with my Core Quad during that days. Take a look here : https://www.gfisk.com/windows-vista-logon-screen-of-death/1 point

@mattrix: Oh dear! How did this happen? What was it exactly, that destroyed your Windows XP? Maybe evil Javascripts? There are cases, where just loading an advertisement screwed up a Windows operating system. Just because the advertisement company was hacked and the attackers spread the malicious software like an advert! That's why blocking everything, you didn't ask for, is important. I still use the old NoScript V5 as a browser addon, but it is reported to break some sites (which I can't confirm). uMatrix is more common nowadays. UXP stands for Unified XUL Platform. I think this is a program part, that the Firefox used once (however after abandoning UXP, the once bright Firefox was only worth extinguishing...). But the Pale Moon browser was specialised in maintaining XUL. And some of Roytams browsers are based on Pale Moon. Still I highly recommend to ask all questions about the new Windows XP browsers here in the MSFN forum in Roytams Browser thread. The different browsers have a different look and feel. On the screenshot, you can see a 32-Bit New Moon, version 28.6.0, with NoScript V5 enabled (see the bar at the bottom displaying "Scripts Partially Allowed"). It works flawlessly for everything I do online, but you have to try it for your sites. Say, what hardware do you use? What kind of processor?1 point

I dunno. I'm kind of neutral on this particular topic of file hosting sites. However, I will agree that there's lots wrong with the modern internet, particularly the (in my opinion) overemphasis on security. I can understand the need for good security for important things like online shopping, banking, and other such things. But why does every single website need to be forced to use protocols and cipher suites that only a few of the newest browsers (namely Chrome and its derivatives) support?! It's not like they're ALL dealing in sensitive info! For example, I don't see the point in Wikipedia using strict TLS1.2 and 1.3 (at least for the public side); for users logging in to create/edit pages, I suppose it's fine. c1 point

Good topic, MEGA.NZ is usable with 3.7GB of ram its success depends a bit on the browser your using(even try configuring through about::conf and settings+addons) I found personally. It also depends on how many programs in XP for instance you have in the background. I have had some fairly decent luck using serpent X86(roytam1) to download files in the browser using MEGA.nz(usually no more than a few GB's). Now the piracy aspect is controversal, it is based in Auckland New Zealand so the regulations may be different which goes back to the possible reason for the point you made. Plus I found that now the very generous free 50GB of storage with free accounts has passed. I created my account a long time ago, and someone told me very old MEGA accounts aren't affect, will have to check. Personally like yandex disk, but one final question besides MEGA.nz which do you believe has the most security and privacy? Have a great day or night, -Saga1 point

Very often the issue in these polls/opinions is the exact way people considers the OS. I mean, more often than not an opinion is made NOT (as it should in these kind of polls) on the OS as it comes from the good MS guys, but rather on a heavily re-configured/tweaked/customized/changed/what not OS In the case of Jody, he has a system that is probably very unlike Windows 8 (as conceived and released by the good MS guys) but much more like a "modernized" Windows 7. I mean when passing from Windows NT 3.1/3.51 to NT 4.00 and then to 2000 and then to XP (which remains essentially Windows 2000 with some added bells and whistles) there was not any "shock". From XP to Vista there was some shock, but not on the visual impact of the UI, only at its terrible performances (due to underpowered hardware). From Vista to 7 as well no particular shock. From 7 to 8 . Just have a quick tour here: http://toastytech.com/guis/indexwindows.html and you can quickly relive the experience. jaclaz1 point

Well, if you're just using the desktop - and you're not planning to use the Metro apps or the touch environment at all, Windows 8 does provide some benefits over Windows 8.1 that are as follows: There are no known telemetry updates in Windows 8 that plague both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 Windows 8 does not have any known CPU blocks (which affected update support). Then again, Windows 8 went out of support in January 2016, so any updates you get will be manually applied from Server 2012 anyway (you can get these from the Microsoft Catalog) No GWX Nags! So you have a Windows version that's fairly modern, and that Microsoft leaves pretty much alone. You can't run IE 11 (but that hardly matters). Windows Defender still protects the system with updated definitions.1 point

Hi greenhillmaniac, A few years ago (February of 2011, so a few months before the windows v4 site shutdown) I retrieved Windows ME updates in order to install them on a machine that had no internet connection. On the other day I stumbled across these while looking for a file, so if any tuga is interested in this, here they are in their PT-PT glory: http://www.mediafire.com/folder/n4cqwuen0b68b/winmillennium-updates Cheers1 point
