  1. Another spontaneous thought... 8-) If you just change a single or a few prefs, and post those lines here too, some users might prefer to just add only those lines themselves instead of downloading and exchanging everything again. But that's just my kind. Certainly some other users will greatly prefer the download.

  2. Win 10 v1909 essentially IS v1903 with some run time switches thrown. Same underlying OS build. As those of you who have been through the upgrade have seen, it was only a minor install that didn't take long to download nor restart. Not an in-place upgrade at all, but just another update. I admit NOT swapping out the OS underpinnings is perhaps the first impressive thing Microsoft has done with Windows in a long time. Hurrah! It would be awesome if BigMuscle would rebuild an optimized version of Aero Glass for Win 8+ that loosened the compatibility check and allowed v1909 just the same as v1903, without the dialog, though we can of course hit the [Cancel] button for now as a workaround. Let's hope he still has the interest to continue to develop Aero Glass for Win 8+. BigMuscle, if you're listening, it would also be cool if you'd add a version check circumvention based on a registry entry (assuming you don't already have one) just in case something like this amazing continuation of Windows compatibility should ever happen again. Thanks! -Noel

  3. I think the readme idea would make more sense. Not everyone knows how to open a JS file.

  4. It's been a while since I've logged in here so I'm glad to see you're still posting. I really hope that you and the family are doing well and that some sort of comfort is starting to set in. Rudy's death really hit hard for me for several reasons. One of them because even though I wouldn't consider him a great friend, I still considered him a friend and I really respected him. But also, because of what led him to passing away. Heart problems run in my family. I'm 30 going on 31 in a few months and I'm also extremely overweight. I was literally in a race car speeding towards heart problems and other awful stuff. Since his passing, I started eating healthier and a lot less. I stopped binging all together and no longer have the desire to stuff myself full of sweets. I also joined the local gym and I work out four to five times a week now. Since the end of September I'm down 22 pounds and I'm feeling great! My knee no longer hurts when I walk and I'm not completely wiped out after walking only four blocks. I still have a super long journey ahead of me but considering how hard life was getting for me and then Rudy's unfortunate passing, it really started clicking that I needed to do something otherwise it won't be long and I'd end up joining him. So while this is really for me in the end, I want to dedicate a part of this to Rudy's memory, a great man taken from us way too early.

  6. Just as an aside, Partition Wizard 11.5 installed fine for me on XP. It was an update from version 11.4, if that makes any difference.

  7. Sadly, this is indeed true ; Inno Setup v6.0.x+ supports Vista (NT6.0 ?) and upwards... For such cases, I can recommend two CLI tools that allow the extraction of "Inno Setup" installers without running them... The latest versions of innoextract (v1.8) and innounp (v0.49) can both extract up to v6.0.2 of IS; however, there are cases where these would not work (custom modifications of the official IS code and encrypted setups, configured to only install via a proper installation route); unfortunately, I have no way of knowing here (Vista SP2 32-bit) whether either CLI launch under XP... So, you could use the last XP compatible setup of the app (to install in XP), (hopefully) use the unpacker to extract the binaries from the updated version of the (incompatible) installer and then do an in situ replacement (with the proviso the updated binaries are still XP compatible)... Kind of what is done currently by XPers wanting to update Java RE 8 past 8u152... Personally, I'm using, when need be, innounp.exe with the following .cmd file:

  8. https://www.cote.co.uk/ Hehe - LOL!! Am delighted to report that page OPENS in Win98 with roytams old K-Meleon-Goanna74! xD (this is not even KM76, but 74 with engine of Palemoon26/Fox24) And even with all my blocks up, incl blocked global javascript, which means the page looks empty but it does load the source, gets the page title, shows NO security errors, and a mini-content shows up when simply killing stylesheets. And with my usual UA of fake IE7. To avoid misunderstandings, that does NOT mean the page were usable that way, no menus nor FAQ page etc. are displayed, am merely getting a few links to facebook+instagram and phone numbers. It just means the access is not blocked completely. The page is chock full with all sorts of scripts, with interesting source code like using xxx.WRITE (doc.write is blocked at least since FF38, but may be contained due to my old useragent), or html tags "@onclick" Just meaning that pretty much rules out any required modern features or permissions as culprits for the completely denied access. Still suspect the certs, but if true, that makes me wonder if Iron has some embedded ones too? Or (no idea) if weak certs are not disabled in whole system, only by browsers?

  10. Just a handling suggestion again ;-) After reading again the install-instructions on page1, those really look a bit complicated if someone doesn't already know by himself where prefs are stored. Especially if his browser is portable or is not installed in the usual locations. As we've seen, normal users can be completely lost then, start blind guessing and land in completely wrong folders, not even aware that program and profile folders are completely different things. I keep thinking some screenshots of the file explorer would be easier... And perhaps include install instructions inside the zips, as a UOC_readme.txt? That wouldn't require to visit the forum (which may not always be possible or easy for everyone, or just too lazy) and search through long, long text to find the crucial paths. Additionally the paths could be included at the start of the js-files too... Or the readme could just say "Installation instructions also found in file.....js (right-click file and edit to read as txt) Am not quite sure what the system does if users just "open" js-files... Just as idea, in UOC_Patch_38.js something like... // UOC_Patch_38.js for Firefox 38 ESR based browsers // Developed by Looking4awayout - Version vN2I - 2019-11-16 // Forum: https://msfn.org/board/topic/178306-uoc-patch/ // //======= INSTALLATION: // Copy THIS file to your PROGRAM folder, where your browser creates DEFAULT settings: // FIREFOX: C:\Program Files\Mozilla\Firefox (contains FIREFOX.EXE) // \defaults\pref\UOC_Patch_38.js // PALEMOON: C:\Program Files\Moonchild... \palemoon (contains PALEMOON.EXE) // \defaults\pref\UOC_Patch_38.js // K-MELEON: C:\Program Files\K-Meleon\(KM-Goanna?) 11. I haven't posted to this topic yet, but since Tommy's heartfelt post above, let me do so now. I've also been shocked and saddened at Rudolph Lowe's passing. I never interacted with him directly or bought any of his patches, but i greatly enjoyed -- and benefited from -- his posts here, and found him to be an extraordinarily-gifted, knowledgeable, and helpful individual. We will miss him, his insightfulness, and his willingness to share. I'm also happy to see that his work will continue to be made available by his family -- a deep thank you for this. The archives of his software on the web will be a shining star to his memory and work. And i, too, appreciate hearing R. Loew's story from his family. My condolences to them in this period of healing. Nevertheless, his loss will remain an enduring one in our small community here, just as his reputation will be enduring. Rest in peace, Rudolph R. - Doug B.

  18. Images often downloaded separately from the email that contains them because they're so large. Outlook uses IE to download these images. If IE can't download an image you'll get the red X, but there are lots of reasons IE might not be able to download from a particular server besides a certificate problem. For example, there may not be a TLS cipher that both the server and IE support. You may find that installing @heinoganda's version of ProxHTTPSProxyMII will resolve many of those download failures.

  19. Nothing new in this post; it's just a summary of what's been discovered so far about this issue. To play Instagram videos in your FF (or FF-derived) browser, you need three things: Most obviously, you need to be able to play MP4 videos. This won't be a problem with @roytam1's UXP forks (NM and Serpent) since he includes his MP4 video DLLs in the build. For FF 45 though 52 or SeaMonkey 2.49.5, you can install the Adobe Primetime CDM according to the instructions pinned atop this forum; either method works. (Those instructions were recently modified slightly to work with SeaMonkey.) You need to set your user agent to spoof FF 56 to instagram.com. You can either set the general.useragent.override preference in about:config to Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:56.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/56.0 or use an Instagram-specific user agent. FF versions before 56 work too, down to a point, but basically nothing on Instagram works at all if you spoof any version newer than 56. If you're not using NM, Serpent 52, or SeaMonkey, you need the following code in file userContent.css in the "chrome" subfolder of your profile: Note that this code is changed somewhat from @mixit's original fix; Instagram changed some of their random class names, requiring an update. Instagram will probably change them again someday, and we'll have to get @mixit to update his fix yet again.

  20. Going (completely) Off-Topic, I just repaired a window handle. (though we are still talking of windows ) Looking at it, there were no pieces broken, there is a counterplate fixed with two M5x10 screws to an aluminum "body", simply the thread had worn off and the screws had no more grip on it. Looking at the thread on the body I saw that it was much deeper than the length of the screws, so I thought to try using a little longer screw, thinking to use a M5x15 , and went to the hardware store and bought 20 (twenty) M5x16 screws ( they had only these, slightly longer, ones) for the price of 0.60 Euro (VAT 22% included), i.e. 0.03 Euro each ( not so cheap per unit) . I got back and re-assembled the thingy with the new screws (that fitted perfectly) and the window handle works and is perfectly solid. Assuming that the hardware store price for a little quantity such as 20 for these screws is 3 or 4 times the cost to the window handles manufacturer (excluded VAT) the original cost must have been around 0.007 or 0.008 each or less and the difference between a M5x10 and a M5x16 probably in the 0.001 to 0.003 Euro. Evidently an engineer decided that in order to save 2*0.025=0.005 Euro in the manufacturing of a device that is sold for 12-15 Euro (to the window manufacturer) and which I paid actually more like 30 or 40 Euro (as part of the finished/installed window) he was allowed to introduce a defect/weak point. This defect costed to me besides the 0.06 Euro (I still have 18 spare screws, so I will be able to fix another 9 handles when they will break in the same manner), almost an hour of time and a trip with the car to the hardware store (think of the pollution this caused). But all in all it's fine. What really troubles me is thinking/knowing that the next engineer will notice that the recessed screw hole is too d@mn deep for the M5x10 screw and - in order to optimize manufacturing time (saving a few hundredths of second when drilling and threading the hole) - next batch will have less deep holes, so that the handle will not be repairable in this simple way anymore. jaclaz

  21. Change is inevitable. Necessary. We have increasing needs for tech. Embracing change is not what this is about. Creating incompatibility to suit business goals is not right. Our parents were appalled at planned obsolescence. Now we're told to accept it. Embrace it. Our tech becomes obsolete even before it can wear out the batteries! Using Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt in the name of "security" as a way to herd people into doing what they would not do is deplorable! Yet for the most part we find ourselves powerless, because people who predicted this and warned against ceding control were marginalized. Ridiculed. Pushed aside. -Noel P.S., the latest incompatibility I've noticed: RDP from an older system into a Windows 10 v1903 system and your mouse jumps around when the cursor graphic is changed. It didn't do that remoting into v1809. The protocol has been good enough - indeed excellent - for decades. It doesn't have to change. Aero Glass just gets shut off and requires regular reinstalls, even though it works fine. Presumedly because some jerk inside Microsoft wants us NOT customizing our Windows look, because that goes against their current Marketing direction. Who the &%$& do they think they are? We could talk about the atrocities Apple is pushing on people... No more 32 bit programs. No more putting things where you want them on your disk. Can't reach your Documents area even though you've shared it? Oh, right, that's security. P.P.S., I'm typing this on a perfectly good Digital LK250 keyboard circa 1985. And there isn't a better one built today. Stuff doesn't HAVE to go bad just because it's tech.

  22. You might be better off using wined3d to translate >=DX10 calls to OpenGL. This way it's a nice workaround for DX10/DX11 only games on XP.
