  1. MacOS and Windows 7 is only a difference of 6% and Linux is more popular than Windows 8.x? These metrics seem a bit skewed. MacOS is tied to Apple's hardware, which means that it will be virtually impossible for it to beat Windows 7 which was pre-installed on almost everything that isn't Apple's from 2009-2015. Windows 8.x may not have caught on, but Linux is still very much a niche market outside of servers. Netmarketshare tells us a completely different story , which further indicates this.

  3. He did a lot for the 9x community, It's a huge loss. I heard about this little over a week ago but I never bought anything from him or did I know him more or less than other people around here. Ya we don't know anything about his estate, or if anyone inherited his intellectual property. We don't know if his programs and drivers will continue to be available or become abandonware, with no way to acquire going forward. Id say it's probably better to give it some time and see if his work is taken over by new management. if not than everything he did will be lost forever, unless its archived for the public. I did archive his entire website last weekend in the wayback machine, but most of his stuff wasn't free.

  4. Hardware acceleration work only DirectX 9.0b (FX5*** & x700-x1250) theoretically and DirectX 9.0c+ (GF6***+ & x1300+) the fact. FX5*** - problems with Youtube. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_graphics_processing_units Firefox 54 last working with Direct3D9

  5. You can use a tool like PowerStrip , Custom Resolution Utility or AsTray Plus to squeeze more pixels into your native display resolution. It will be blurry though, and you may get some flickering. The better method is gonna cost you - replace the display itself for one with a higher resolution. You may need to also replace the display cable and (not likely) the CCFL inverter. If you decide on upgrading, first find the model of your current display - you can use softMCCS , Aida64, or just disassemble the lappy and look at the sticker on the back of the display. Then look up the display specs at panelook or a similar site. To change just the display you'll need one with the same Signal Type, Voltage Supply and Backlight specs. You may have to change the cable/inverter if you get a LED display, or one with a different (but similar) LVDS signal. Make sure the voltage stays the same though. Good luck! P.S. ifixit has a display replacement guide.

  7. ... Many thanks for this find! However, the installer checks the OS version and blocks the installation on NT < 6.1 : One can extract the installer with 7-zip and run the browser.exe main executable directly on Vista SP2, however I still prefer myself "installing" and running the truly portable PAF package I linked to previously... Best regards

  8. It would certainly be a great shame if Rudolph's work now became permanently unobtainable. We don't know the circumstances of his death of course, but if he knew enough in advance what was going to happen, he may well have taken steps to preserve his program archive and make it available in the future as part of his legacy. We can only hope that he did have a chance to do that.

  9. My sincerest condolences. He was one of MSFN's most talented individuals. I'm still in awe about how he was able to do so much for the Windows 9x series of OSes. He will be missed greatly.

  10. No, I have a Vista 64-bit netbook and want to use the language pack for that. Also SM 2.49.5 still supports XP x64/Vista x64 as long as you use the x86 version of SeaMonkey.

  11. This is a common pirated build of XP SP3, with added themes, drivers, and removed components (which are superfluous in the author’s opinion). Logos and a link in the system properties clearly indicate this. The word Lite usually means that most components, services, and standard drivers are removed or disabled.

  15. (OT, but relevant to MSFN ) ... attached image not showed To have an imgur photo upload display inline inside a forum post, please choose under the Get share links option the BBCode (Forums) entry, of the format: [img=https://i.imgur.com/[7-digit-code].jpg] ... and try to avoid their new beta photo uploader: https://imgur.com/upload?beta which is now being offered as the default ; the beta uploader uses much more resources here (CPU+RAM) compared to the old one: https://imgur.com/upload so the latter should be bookmarked and preferred in older hardware+browsers! Of course, the old one will cease to exist sometime in the near future, till then though, it's the obvious choice for me...

  16. To complete @VistaLover's post and as a proof, I will post a screenshot of the bookmarking feature working perfectly with Firefox 45 ESR SSE (latest build) on the RDD. The Netscape thingy and the custom icon are just edits done by me to "retroify" the look of XP further.

  17. @Vistaboy : Please do what @looking4awayout did (and it's the thing I always recommend when troubleshooting): create a new pristine FxESR 45.x.x profile, devoid of any extensions; safe mode only disables extensions and some gfx related features (e.g. HW acceleration, if applicable), but doesn't negate the existing prefs.js file inside your dirty profile! You didn't tell us how your existing profile was initially created; often times, profile corruption due to mysterious extension interactions/conflicts, extension upgrades/downgrades and profile migration from different browser versions (from a higher Fx version to a lower one, not to mention between Firefox forks) may be the source of difficult to dissect issues... BTW, can you still bookmark a URL via other approaches, e.g. the "star" toolbar button? Best regards

  18. Hi - I do hope you're fine ; however, what you report is nothing to be in awe of and/or exclusive to NM; "mixed content protection" has been implemented since Mozilla Firefox 23: https://blog.mozilla.org/tanvi/2013/04/10/mixed-content-blocking-enabled-in-firefox-23/ https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/mixed-content-blocking-firefox In Italian: https://support.mozilla.org/it/kb/blocco-contenuti-non-sicuri Auguri

  19. I have tried the UOC Patch on my Pentium M laptop (Asus A6000) with the latest update of Firefox 45 ESR SSE, clean profile and no extensions, and I'm not having any issue, sites bookmark just fine. Sorry for your issues, but I can safely rule the UOC Patch out as the culprit.

  24. Just finished a test of direct apply of UUP files (build 18980 x64). WinNTSetup 4.0b6 performs this task with no problems (using WimgAPI 18362). (Actually, I always wonder why a lot of people bother to convert preview UUPs to an ISO, all this effort can be spared, just use direct apply, either with WinNTSetup of Imagex). I wanted to test the manual method as well (using imagex.exe from the command line, or actually from a gui/ script thingy), and to my surprise this still produces the errors below. So for manual use, I still use version 15063. Any idea why this would happen? Command line: imagex /apply pro.esd /ref: g:\uup ImageX (any version after 15063) produces errors like this: [ ERROR ] Restoring ....filename.... again {Error = 6) Error restoring image. The handle is invalid. Once again: WinNTSetup is not to blame, just wondering what's going on here...

  25. Hi everyone, So today rockstar released a new launcher for their games. Including my favorite GTA V. There's small catch. It no longer supports Vista. I have found a bypass, but I'm not sure for how long this is going to work. You need to uninstall the new launcher. Grab the old one (Vista saves folders history maybe you can find it there in "Installers" folder) and install it. Now you need to delete "PlayGTAV.exe". Copy "GTAVLauncher" to your desktop and name it "PlayGTAV.exe" and put it to your gta v folder. That's it. I have tried it only on steam version so i have no idea if this is going to work on dvd version. Cheers
