  2. Oh man, you edited out the part I was going to comment on, lol. re: 256 MB spare -- it's because some people eat their cereal with a fork and don't realize that a spoon works better. There would be no MSFN without these types of people, the folks that use the wrong tool for the job then come here to get that FORK (pun intended) to do what the spoon has no issues with.
  3. Use JustOff's tool MozJAR Recompressor: https://github.com/JustOff/mozjarr/tree/master All about recrompressing such files was already discussed here: https://msfn.org/board/topic/184051-my-browser-builds-part-4/?do=findComment&comment=1248092 Cheers, AstroSkipper
  4. I noticed random tab hanging with Supermium as well. Slightly off-topic, it's just that I used Supermium slightly more often on XP than Thorium so far. But it could be due to small fixed 1 GB page file since XP is installed on a small 20 GB partition...I think warning about possibly failed memory allocation requests may only show the first time. Those that have these types of problems should check if their page file setting is set to auto. No, you're not smarter than Windows if you think you know appropriate size or worse, think you don't need it at all. If you don't have decently (over)sized page file and settings prevent Windows from resizing it, chances for memory allocation requests randomly failing decrease dramatically.
  5. here is a site of programs to compile and code on wfw 3.11 (although this is only c++ so i don't know how useful that is) i have Symantec C++ Pro 6.1 installed because it supports 256 colors. https://www.streetinfo.lu/computing/programming/windowsold/software/win3x_cpp.html
  6. well the netscape navigator already had java script so wfw 3.11 supports it. there are multiple older ones that have the capability of compiling 16 bit. especially, the ones o that area. the main problem is i don't know what i have to do or how to code because i cant find anything for windows 3.11 yet alone a browser. the idea came from me not managing to bring a dos browser to work under wfw3.11 and there being no newish browsers for it natively. maybe something simple, a few security protocols maybe and https support since that is totally missing in any browsers from that area.

  8. In 7-Zip directories are added as items separate for any files they may contain. You can see they have dates and attributes. Most archivers do this. The XPI contains only files. Each file header in the Zip central directory has a 36 bytes long extra field. With many files and directories, this adds up. Old archivers like RAR do not add this, but the Deflate compression there is worse.
  9. Welcome to MSFN. Write the ID of the device. There are two revisions of the I219, one has a driver, the other does not. As a last resort, you can use a PCI-E Network Card, or USB-LAN if there are no ports available.
  10. Windows 7 has been my favorite and daily OS since 2010. When web browsers (I use Firefox and Opera) or internet functions begin to stop working maybe then I will make the switch to Linux which I haven't been fond of but I hope that day doesn't come anytime soon. I've experienced browsers becoming unusable before with PowerPC Macs and had to give up using the internet on mine.
  11. Does 7-Zip not have reliability troubles with the relevant ZIP extended formats (XPI, EPUB, APK, (I think also JA) etc.)? Particularly, for Mozilla files that use extended Zip formats, such as .ja (I think) and .xpi, it is my understanding that member file order in the archives matters and is optimized by Mozilla process. Mozilla has provided a disclaimer against using 7-zip in creating a singed XPI-file extension (see https://web.archive.org/web/20200105223104/https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Archive/Add-ons/Signing_an_XPI#Prepare_XPI_file_for_signing ) because, as it alleges, 7-zip may change order of files. Have you found this not to be the issue? As a test of compression ability, I have downloaded and extracted https://o.rthost.win/boc-uxp/session_manager-0.8.1.14-sm.xpi then tried to re-compress the extracted content to Zip format with 7-zip, but the compression type and end archive file size is much greater (556,780 bytes is my lowest-size outcome) than yours (552,422 bytes). What am I missing?
  12. Windows GDI and User resources for object handles. 64 KB.
  13. Thank you very much, you are the best!
  14. Dragging myself back on topic, I discovered a workaround for chase.com on Serpent. At least it works on 55; haven't tried 52 yet but it'll probably work there too, at least as long as you use my StructuredClone polyfill via ???Monkey. When you first log on, you get the dreaded: But if you click "Plan & track," then click back to "Accounts," it will come up and work fine! Well, mostly fine; if you have multiple accounts, the "Transfer money" option is broken. You can't select the other account to transfer money to. Have to use a more modern browser for that function to work. But at least it's usable outside of that function.
  15. @roytam1, I noticed that your zip-compressed files such as omni.ja and various provided *.xpi extensions, are compressed in a Deflate-compatible manner, but with greater compression than one usually is provided with typical ZIP compression utilities. How do you get that increased compression?
  16. Which resources? I know you don't mean ram. There are greater limitations, if you are not in 386 enhanced mode. I also remember that having virtual memory enabled, limited you to 512mb of memory. When that is disable, I could see the machine's 1.5Gb (alternative Dos Memory managers). Not that Windows could actually use it. I've read that 256mb was the maximum managed (actively used) before the memory manager would become unstable. But applications like Adobe Premiere (v1.1) required 8mb of ram. And I certainly have ran more then one application, of such demands, simultaneously (cooperative multitasking). But, I do recall the Graphical Display resources being an issue. Also, I think there was an issue with allocating over 64mb of ram (similar issue [but not the same] with DrDos7 multitasking). It would be neat to have a 32bit Dos multi-tasker (like WfW[32bit]). Something like Dosemu, but instead on Dos, using Dos Drivers. Japheth (HxDos) has done excellent work for Dos. It would be interesting to have preemptively managed Dos VMs, supporting environments like Japheth's extender. It could be a hobbyist nerd's playground. Sbemu and VSBHDA are slowly approaching the potential, for forking into an "A.L.S.A. for Dos". It might prove nice targeting a modern(ish) browser, towards an open sourced environment like this. Especially, since HxDos has implemented some of the Win32 environment. If one designed the UI correctly, HxHos is not a Window Manager (no floating Windows), you could implement or port a browser to HxDos' Win32 environment. With VSBHDA, you might even have audio. There is even, now, Javascript for Dos; not that it could be used "well" in a Dos WebBrowser.
  17. I've heard rumor of FreePascal/Lazarus having a Win16 target. This doesn't mean it would be easy, but it is one option.
  18. Rockstar Games Launcher since January 30 is Windows 10 only and refuses to install or function on 7. A few games like Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption II that previously had 7/8/8.1 compatibility and require RGL are no longer functional on these OS as a result.

  20. I can't find this limitation anywhere. Besides, why would anyone install more ram then? Well I tried linux first but my iPad does not give enough cpu power... windows 3.11 also runs slow like on original hardware. Besides... It just wouldn't be the same
  21. I tested a lot of sites like MSFN, GitHub, NY Times, Google, Chip, PCWelt, GMX and so on. TBH, I do not use Instagram anyways but this site indeed does not load correctly. BTW, I have only 1.5 GB SD-RAM.
  22. Thanks. Maybe first line is too long. What if you delete all seven lines starting with ';;' ? BTW: with the verb '$0103B04A;AC_VERB_SET_AMP_GAIN_MUTE;max_vol(default=3C)' I'd try to give you your max volume back as in debug-version!
  23. Hi! sorry about the delay was busy the last few days, I just copied the new file over, and it sadly doesnt want to boot into Windows anymore. Its no problem ill just use the rev2 file, it works great. Thanks again for all your help! You are doing great things for the Retro Computing community!
