My Windows XP OS Addons and Update Pack (2023)
Zorba the Geek replied to Zorba the Geek's topic in Application Add-Ons
I have found a satisfactory solution to the problem of the battery driver not found message after the completion of the Windows installation. I have added this line to HIVECLS.INF to set driver signing to "ignore": HKCU,"SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Driver Signing","BehaviorOnFailedVerify",0x10001,0 and this line into HIVESFT.INF to set driver signing to "ignore": HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Driver Signing","Policy",0x00001,0 Here is the complete entries in the entries.ini file: [EditFile] HIVECLS.INF,AddReg,Addline6 HIVESFT.INF,AddReg,Addline7 [Addline6] HKCU,"SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Driver Signing","BehaviorOnFailedVerify",0x10001,0 [Addline7] HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Driver Signing","Policy",0x00001,0 RunOnce values added to HIVECLS.INF reset driver signing to the default "warn" setting at the end of the Windows installation. Previously I used an Optional Components section in an inf file to copy batt.dll to the System32 folder near the end of the Windows installation. Now I can eliminate these inf files and sysoc.inf will not be clogged up with masses of entries for the Windows Components removal addons. This should complete the Windows Components removal addons which now produce no entries in setuperr.log and System File Checker does not flag any missing DLLs. I just have to rebuild all thesel addons and upload them once again.- 93 replies

I've had this problem for a long time. The Help and Support Center does not let me enter any text into the search box in the upper left hand corner of the window. It doesn't even have a blinking cursor in the search box. Also, when I press the Index button on the task bar, the Index pane comes up on the left side but there is nothing there except for a placeholder in the upper left corner of the pane. The "Home" window, which is the first window you see when you first start the Help and Support Center does show the items "Pick a Help Topic", "Ask for Assistance", "Pick a Task" and "Did You Know" with their associated items under them except that "Did You Know" shows nothing under it. All the links under them work. I might be wrong but I seem to remember there was a security update for the Help and Support Center due to MS finding a security vulnerability in it that would let a hacker take control of your computer. Is this true, and if so, can it be undone or is this problem something else going on? This is in my XP Pro SP3 MCE version and I have the same problem in my XP Pro SP3 (non MCE) version on my other drive except that on that drive the problem is even worse as nothing is displayed in the Help and Support Center window other than the title and the task bar buttons and the Search box which has the same problem. My system is a parallel installation with both drives having XP Pro SP3 with the exception that one is MCE and the other is not. Here is what the Help Center log says: 2025/10/18 16:51:36 ############################################################ 2025/10/18 16:51:36 2025/10/18 16:51:36 Script error: 2025/10/18 16:51:36 2025/10/18 16:51:36 Message : Unspecified error. 2025/10/18 16:51:36 Url : hcp://system/panels/NavBar.htm 2025/10/18 16:51:36 Line : 708 2025/10/18 16:51:36 Character: 2 2025/10/18 16:51:36 Code : 0 2025/10/18 16:51:36 2025/10/18 16:52:09 ############################################################ 2025/10/18 16:52:09 2025/10/18 16:52:09 Script error: 2025/10/18 16:52:09 2025/10/18 16:52:09 Message : Unspecified error. 2025/10/18 16:52:09 Url : hcp://system/panels/NavBar.htm 2025/10/18 16:52:09 Line : 708 2025/10/18 16:52:09 Character: 2 2025/10/18 16:52:09 Code : 0 2025/10/18 16:52:09 2025/10/18 16:55:38 ############################################################ 2025/10/18 16:55:38 2025/10/18 16:55:38 Script error: 2025/10/18 16:55:38 2025/10/18 16:55:38 Message : Unspecified error. 2025/10/18 16:55:38 Url : hcp://system/panels/NavBar.htm 2025/10/18 16:55:38 Line : 708 2025/10/18 16:55:38 Character: 2 2025/10/18 16:55:38 Code : 0 2025/10/18 16:55:38 2025/10/18 17:13:45 ############################################################ 2025/10/18 17:13:45 2025/10/18 17:13:45 Script error: 2025/10/18 17:13:45 2025/10/18 17:13:45 Message : Unspecified error. 2025/10/18 17:13:45 Url : hcp://system/panels/NavBar.htm 2025/10/18 17:13:45 Line : 708 2025/10/18 17:13:45 Character: 2 2025/10/18 17:13:45 Code : 0 2025/10/18 17:13:45 2025/10/18 17:30:27 ############################################################ 2025/10/18 17:30:27 2025/10/18 17:30:27 Script error: 2025/10/18 17:30:27 2025/10/18 17:30:27 Message : Unspecified error. 2025/10/18 17:30:27 Url : hcp://system/panels/NavBar.htm 2025/10/18 17:30:27 Line : 708 2025/10/18 17:30:27 Character: 2 2025/10/18 17:30:27 Code : 0 2025/10/18 17:30:27 2025/10/18 17:32:08 ############################################################ 2025/10/18 17:32:08 2025/10/18 17:32:08 Script error: 2025/10/18 17:32:08 2025/10/18 17:32:08 Message : Unspecified error. 2025/10/18 17:32:08 Url : hcp://system/panels/NavBar.htm 2025/10/18 17:32:08 Line : 708 2025/10/18 17:32:08 Character: 2 2025/10/18 17:32:08 Code : 0 2025/10/18 17:32:08 2025/10/18 17:49:53 ############################################################ 2025/10/18 17:49:53 2025/10/18 17:49:53 Script error: 2025/10/18 17:49:53 2025/10/18 17:49:53 Message : Unspecified error. 2025/10/18 17:49:53 Url : hcp://system/panels/NavBar.htm 2025/10/18 17:49:53 Line : 708 2025/10/18 17:49:53 Character: 2 2025/10/18 17:49:53 Code : 0 2025/10/18 17:49:53 2025/10/18 17:50:16 ############################################################ 2025/10/18 17:50:16 2025/10/18 17:50:16 Script error: 2025/10/18 17:50:16 2025/10/18 17:50:16 Message : Unspecified error. 2025/10/18 17:50:16 Url : hcp://system/panels/NavBar.htm 2025/10/18 17:50:16 Line : 708 2025/10/18 17:50:16 Character: 2 2025/10/18 17:50:16 Code : 0 2025/10/18 17:50:16 2025/10/18 18:01:34 ############################################################ 2025/10/18 18:01:34 2025/10/18 18:01:34 Script error: 2025/10/18 18:01:34 2025/10/18 18:01:34 Message : Unspecified error. 2025/10/18 18:01:34 Url : hcp://system/panels/NavBar.htm 2025/10/18 18:01:34 Line : 708 2025/10/18 18:01:34 Character: 2 2025/10/18 18:01:34 Code : 0 2025/10/18 18:01:34 2025/10/18 18:30:45 ############################################################ 2025/10/18 18:30:45 2025/10/18 18:30:45 Script error: 2025/10/18 18:30:45 2025/10/18 18:30:45 Message : Unspecified error. 2025/10/18 18:30:45 Url : hcp://system/panels/NavBar.htm 2025/10/18 18:30:45 Line : 708 2025/10/18 18:30:45 Character: 2 2025/10/18 18:30:45 Code : 0 2025/10/18 18:30:45

I have not witnessed the extremely poor quality again. A live 1920*1080 video with motion is now around 3700 kbit/s. It is still low but in the ballpark of what to expect online. zBq_krhKbW4 (static scene with a speaking person and illustrations) is about 850 kbit/s in "TV-S", and I perceive it as soft and washed out.

I highly suspect that you will be DISAPPOINTED. I have been *VERY* disappointed in every "tiny" os I have ever tried - BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT REALLY TINY AT ALL! If you are SERIOUS about seeking a truly optimized, tweaked, debloated Windows, then WINREDUCER-EX is the ONLY real solution.

Here's something interesting that I stumbled upon yesterday: tiny11builder https://github.com/ntdevlabs/tiny11builder Hands-On: Tiny11 Builder https://www.thurrott.com/windows/windows-11/301235/hands-on-tiny11-builder I am definitely going to make use of this, and I am very thankful that someone created it and made it available for free.

My Browser Builds (Part 5)
DanR20 replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
@roytam1, thanks for fixing the mailnews Outgoing Server settings. This app still works very well with gmail so glad to have that working again. -
I'm on dotexe's discord server, they explained why they left GitHub. In a discussion, dotexe shared their interest in self-hosting their stuff to not rely on third parties. So VxKex is available on their personal website (http://thrashnet.org/projects/vxkex/ / no HTTPS) with the source code hosted on their FTP server (thrashnet.org:21)

Sorted! Got the old XP version and this works a treat thanks so much for this hack!!!🙏

Can't install new Version of Startallback stuck at 3.9.9
skyer1224 replied to skyer1224's topic in StartIsBack+
Well i got it fixed incase people have the same issue. I though maybe it was something to do with windows so I installed start11 trial and man i disliked that one lol. The start menu opened up correctly though. I uninstalled that cause i didn't like it. Restarted and installed the newest version again of SAB, but for some weird reason it installed correctly this time no clue why. Now everything is working correctly. -

Also the start menu will not open when i click on it only when i push the windows key on the keyboard. Also i cant change the theme of the start men u even when i select one it stays at the ugly windows 11 default one. Why i tried updating SAB and I'm stuck. Need some help. -
UWP Metro cr-apps are a bastardization of computing, so that's a feature, not a bug.
-
I tried it through Patch Integrator v4.2.3 with options = 5,6,K,R, but I replaced AHCI with Universal 32bit AMD AHCI driver v1.2.1.321 mod+signed by Fernando, went through the stage of loading the installation via a flash drive created by WinSetupFromUSB-1-10, formatting works, copying too, I select in WinSetupFromUSB-1-10the second stage, the gui installer begins, but it throws this bsod 0x00000050 ntoskrn8.sys PS. Chipset A320 and AHCI VEN_1022&DEV_43B8

Most probably this guy decided to leave Github because sooner rather than later it will share fate of Skype.

I installed the October 2025 update yesterday, and StartAllBack now has a weird problem – taskbar on secondary monitors isn't hiding, and it's also transparent: If I disable and reenable auto-hiding, the problem goes away until my monitors go to sleep (which causes the primary monitor to disconnect), then the problem reappears. Bug: Metro apps do not show up on the recently opened programs list on the start menu. Using windows 11 25H2

Honestly, I don't know how it is a bad news: since Piriform acquisition by Avast quality of this tool dropped significantly and most accurate description of it would be bloatware. I would advice you to use superior in every aspect HDCleaner from here: https://kurtzimmermann.com/hdcleaner_en.html

Yes I have used Windscribe service for six years now. I went a few months with their 10 GB monthly free plan and paid for a year Christmas special and then a 3 year Black Friday special twice. A paid service is better but I still have over a year of time left on the plan and I am not paying for another service. The 'free service' will be OK in my situation. I went to the VPNBook web site and will check that out more. It might be better. I like the one that I mentioned earlier. My Win 7 notebook still works with the paid service. My time with Win XP is slowly coming to an end anyway. I had four Win XP notebooks in 2010 and now I only have one left ... the best of the four which I rarely used till the last few months. When my paid subscription finally runs out next year, I will just use 'free' service. I have heard from customer service several times but I am not able to connect. They sent this info ... not sure what the 'extension tunnel' is ... might not be for my situation. ..................................................................................................... Our browser extension tunnels your browser traffic, not your entire device. That means your Chrome (or Firefox, Edge, whatever) traffic goes through Windscribe’s servers, while your other apps (Steam, Netflix app, etc.) use your normal internet. But it’s not just a mini VPN - it’s loaded with cool features, like: Ad & tracker blocking (because ads are the fungus of the internet). WebRTC Slayer - prevents your real IP from leaking. Time Warp, Location Warp & Language Warp - fakes your timezone, GPS and language to match your connected location. Cookie Monster & Split Personality - nukes cookies and rotates your browser’s fingerprint so trackers lose you faster than your last ex. It pairs beautifully with the desktop app for Double Hop, where traffic goes through two separate Windscribe locations for extra privacy. You can read more about the extension here on our website. (Scroll down until you see it) You can also get the extension from here: Chrome - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/windscribe-free-proxy-and/hnmpcagpplmpfojmgmnngilcnanddlhb Firefox - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/windscribe/ Edge - https://microsoftedge.microsoft.com/addons/detail/windscribe-free-proxy-a/dkkdbpgldnmkhcliffjpajcfdjkcaddf For windows XP, you can probably get our old MV2 version browser extension to work. But this is not guaranteed. ...................................................................................... Maybe some others need a 'free VPN service also so they have this information now.
