  2. I don't know exactly when the problem started, but presumably it's been around for a few years. Perhaps this defect was there from the very beginning, when firefox forks were able to play video on their own, without third-party plugins, as it was in firefox52. And I think you have already written about it in this thread. The problem occurs when you don't use mythical hardware acceleration, which as you probably know doesn't work on XP. example. on a particular machine: 480p video is playing - CPU utilization is ~20%. When changing the speed in the player, the CPU load increases to ~60-75%. I mainly use your basilisk. The same defect exists in palemoon and probably in all your other browsers.
  3. https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/115.30.0esr/win64/en-US/Firefox Setup 115.30.0esr.exe That's for Firefox ESR 115.30, I couldn't find a Czech version.

  7. I have an updated W7 vhd that I boot loacally and I want to now use it in a VM (VBox). Since the BCD for booting was loacated outside of the vhd, I used Winntsetup to redo the BCD as shown below. The problem is, when I use the vhd in a VM, it starts to boot, but BSODs with 7b. When I try safe mode, it also abends. The last entry I see on the console before the BSOD is Classpnp.sys which is a storage class driver. So I assume I have a disk or controller driver installed in the vhd that doesn't work in a VM which may be causing the crash. @JFX or anyone else that might know how to resolve this, or something to try, please let me know.
  8. Is there a download link ?
  9. Notice: seems need some more time on ironing out front-end (win11) related revs from upstream which hopefully can be done in xmas, but UXP related changes are in and hopefully new build (without those front-end changes) will be available this week.
  10. Well it was at least discussed..
  11. if you think the problem exists in my browser, you may at least try bisecting when the problem starts occurring. without doing so, there is no way to find where the problem is. and BTW Centaury doesn't share same UXP engine as my builds so it is incomparable.

  13. Only Desktop processors have reached ESU. For now the drivers continue to get updated as some Intel 8th Gen Mobile processors are still supported until September 2026. But in the end ironically all 7th-10th processors still benefit from these drivers... so good thing
  14. I did it for testing (manually applying 3dyd's changes to the source of official PyInstaller 6.17.0) and converting into a wheel (built with 32bit toolchain from here on Windows 10). pyinstaller-6.17.0-py3-none-any.whl (for XP) pyinst-6.17.0_yt-dlp_x86_XP.7z
  15. roytam1 the question is about changing speed and CPU utilization. And it's not even a question, it's a bug ! and it's very old. And you've been written about it many times, judging by the topic. this problem is not related to YouTube and AV1. This is about regular video on websites - h264. I will also suggest you a certain direction for fixing it. In Centaury browser (https://github.com/Feodor2/Centaury/releases) there is no problem with increasing CPU load. And this browser is also based on basilisk.
  16. no clue, check for upstream if problem persists. (but remember, youtube pushes AV1 content which is too heavy for old machines.)
  17. @roytam1 I believe that he is asking not about xpi min-ver issues, but rather his issues with video playback in Serpent.
  18. As I said before, if it is just target version problem, you can just lowering minimum version in xpi. They have their own decision about minimum version and lowering it may or may not work, so just test yourself.
  19. ESU (Extended Security Updates) != EOS (End of Service/Support)
  20. It's wuaueng.dll regression for calculating updates metadata chain, specifically these functions CUpdatesToPruneList::PopulateSupersedenceInfo CUpdatesToPruneList::AddSupersedenceInfoIfNeeded they fixed it for Win 7-8.1, but they never backported the fix for Vista/Server 2008

  22. Hello Anton12, you addressed your request to blackwingcat personally. Since he didn't respond for a while now, I will share my thoughts which might or might not help in getting somewhat forward with the issue. The standard "TLS 1.3" was published in 2018. The last official updates for Windows 2000 are from 2016. The last updates for Windows XP are from 2017 (I think). However, there were still updates published for Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 back in 2018. Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 is based on Windows XP and therefore is somewhat compatible with Windows 2000. So it would make sense to check whether there is an update for Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 which adds support for TLS 1.3. It would be a start to work on a solution for Windows 2000. If there is no such update, then it would be nice to know, when and how Microsoft added support for TLS 1.3 to Windows/Internet Explorer for a version as close as possible to what we have in Windows 2000. This type of research can be done without having any skills in programming. But it still helps the person whoever ends up writing the patch. There aren't many who have the skills to backport new features and write a clean and working update for end users. So the todo list of those persons are usually pretty full. Any help to reduce the burden from the bottle neck is often appreciated. Adding support for TLS 1.3 support in principle is one thing. A clean integration into the operating system is another thing. For example being able to activate/deactive support through the internet options like with the other standards would be nice, too. However, it adds more work to the undertaking.
  23. ... Well, this isn't a very reassuring answer, you do realise that ... Don't know ; perhaps @user57 is on the right track on this (or even @cmalex, safe may he be, knows more ); the question to be asked is why did it magically appear in the latest yt-dlp WinXP compiles, whereas it wasn't present (needed?) all that time before? ... Can't tell; my AV solution gave it a "clean bill of health" ; you can try to see if the WinXP packages launch and function OK WITHOUT it, then take the necessary steps to remove it altogether; I'm not being paranoid (I think ), but I'd rather not have it there, if it isn't indispensable... Best festive wishes ...
  24. Yeah I remember years ago, I used to be very against using old OSs such as XP because of security update issues. Then I relaxed on it, but over the time morphing my stance to just include Vista and up. Now, with my fully ditching any trace of Vista or older, I stick to JUST keeping Windows 8 going. I don't care about the security updates so much. It's just that I like how Windows 8 looks and feels vs Windows 10. However, I've really started to see Windows XP as archaic. It's odd for me to think that in 2025, Windows XP has ANY place on a running PC, but this time around, I'm not really worried about how others feel about my expressing that opinion. It just is what it is. When I made a comment in one of Roytam1's threads about using Betterbird vs MailNews or Interlink, I was reminded that the goal was to have a client running on XP or higher. My first thought was, "Oh yeah - that!" It feels more like an irritation that won't go away, rather than a goal to aspire to.
  25. fileextd.dll its a old rare file that provide some functions that xp useally dont have - it can be seen as kernel extender i dont know its origin either some say its from the xbox and a official file while other say its a handmade file by someone maybe we get some more information about it what i know is that it is shown as used library on microsofts website: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/api/winbase/nf-winbase-getfileinformationbyhandleex then "Kernel32.lib; FileExtd.lib on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP"
  26. I am on GitHub. But... You won't like this answer. I technically no longer subscribe to "keep XP alive" or "keep 7 alive". The endeavor is a great endeavor, don't get me wrong. But what we end up with instead is spoon-feeding a sect of society that *CAN* afford a newer mode of internetting (and most even confess HAVING NEWER) but think that they are somehow "entitled" to the rest of the world keeping their XP or 7 capable of "everything".
  27. This is not my question there but thanks in any case.
  28. Why would I upvote something that doesn't work with yahoo and paypal? Never heard before! This topic caster helped ne a lot. I want to upvote him, sorry you're not happy with it. I'll give you a like for agreeing with an obvious statement though. If you're on github, if you like this browser, help us to reconvince the creator.
  29. Very sharp observation. 👍️ I have no idea how that might have happened... The build environment is still the same Python 3.11 from @cmalex. What is that file supposed to do. Can it do any harm?
