Not every site needs tweaking, only some. And once set, the prob is solved automatically next time. But one can certainly assume there are a lot MORE sites which are happy with gecko/Firefox as without. So personally I'd keep the compats enabled, to save a lot of tweaking, but of course that's bad for Goanna statistics ;-)

Your screenshot shows you've set compatMode.version to FF70.
It's no wonder if some servers send you code which really requires FF70...
And that compatMode for AppleWebKit certainly affects some sites too.
It's a complicated balance which compatModes cause more good and which more harm, but have no own experience there. Perhaps other users of your browser can contribute more insights.

Mcinwwl posted about the distorted audio issue:

"It still affects all the videos on VOD.TVP.pl. Polish national TV provider, might be geofenced. It was reported first time over a year ago by @kitaro1, so won't likely change..."

In about:config, click New/string:

general.useragent.override.vod.tvp.pl

then value:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:55.0) Gecko/20100101 Goanna/4.0 Firefox/55.0

This works on Serpent55 / Moebius here, with test link "Ceremonia Otwarcia" on vod.tvp.pl:  https://vod.tvp.pl/video/eurowizja,ceremonia-otwarcia,45326534

- no more distorted audio, no geofencing...

And I do not have this setting, but very good vod.tvp.pl: http://prnt.sc/q063dz

http://prnt.sc/q064it

NM and serpent are good now.

As from last Thursday I seem to be having the same problem as @caliber but on you tube. See image attached.

I can still watch the videos and some times have to refresh the page in order to do so. Strangely enough around midnight youtube thumbnails load not always all of them. Also cannot sign in to YT nor gmail. The connection has timed out google server is taking too long to respond. I receive 0 pings from gmail. Other streaming sites that I use work fine.

Any Ideas on that ?

Cheers

Same applies to serpent 52, firefox 52.9, mypal, google chrome.

@kitaro1,

...so you have your general native user agent similar to mine, and you don't use extensions that can change it, like uMatrix, or User-Agent Switcher, Random User-Agent or other UA spoofer.
I use uMatrix, that's why...

Firefox has become totally useless over the past month but it was not the site was refering to.

the main YT site is full white and you can only watch a video if you have a direct link to it.

@Tangy, @caliber,

Look to change some rule in your extensions, and look to not block javascript entirely...

First, to test, disable your JavaScript extension and other defenses:

Test your JavaScript Browser Information by browserleaks.com: https://browserleaks.com/javascript

 JavaScript Inspector Know what JavaScript reveals about your browser: https://webbrowsertools.com/javascript/#javascript-uri

Then I don't have problems with youtube.com home page, all videos are here and I could play them all.

Then all Firefox based browsers roytam1 made I use, are very good, and better each week.

- and I would like here and now to warmly thank dear roytam1 for all his efforts, to supply us with these always better browsers each week! Keep up the GREAT work!

And thanks also to the other famous members who give us all so much valuable professional advices!

Here on kangax.github.io you have, in the first line, your current browser characteristics:

@msfntor Thank you ! I do not block any java scripts. From the link you provided

JavaScript Detection

JavaScript Enabled✔ True

Inline Scripts✔ True

Same-Origin Scripts✔ True

Third-Party Scripts✔ True

What worries is that gmail does not respond at all. Is the end nigh ? Got two PC's (Win xp & win 7) connected directly to a modem. Win 7 no problems at all.

Cheers

@caliber Yes, I am fully aware that ff52 is garbage. I'll be uninstalling it soon.

Obrigado.

There was this mysterious issue with the game store sites https://www.gog.com / https://www.origin.com and since a few weeks it also got to https://www.epicgames.com.

When there is a free game giveaway, and you click the "GET" button. On the usual XP browsers nothing happens, no way to proceed. Normal Firefox 52.9.0 ESR has this issue and palemoon-27.9.7...xpmod has it as well. Changing user agent identification does not help.

Fortunately basilisk52-g4.4.win32...xpmod does show the checkout page and all the rest, so that is awesome. Thanks!

Edit: epicgames is a good site to test this now, Since they have an active giveway pretty much all the time.

Did you mean router, or modem? I really hope there is a router between your computer and the modem.

@Tangy,

Now I think about your computer problem, that with time your computer gets more and more loaded and warmed up, maybe you don't have enough RAM or a weak fan. Rescue for you is a Windows restart. Clean the computer from dust, especially the fan.
