  1. Like they said ... when a mouse or any device closes programs in this manner it typically means you have a trojan/virus on your system. One of the programs you are installing is possibly infected. After formatting the hard drive (be sure to include the master boot record) scan all of the programs before and after installation one-at-a-time to find the infected program. Then you know which program is infected. As a precaution I would perform a second format after finding the infected program just to be on the safe side just because I would feel better about the future stability of my system. Some of these bugs can be pretty sophisticated and there are other remedies, so if that does not work let us know. If the viri scanner tool that Drew submitted tells you the name of the bug please post the name of it here just out of curiosity reasons please.
  2. I just bought a Seagate Barracuda 120 GB. It is very quiet and has some sort of cushioning system they claim makes it better for recording music as it helps eliminate the hiss associated with hard drives. I really do not know if it does what it claims to do or not as I do not record music. It is quiet though and has performed nicely for the past two months as a file server. All my other hard drives are IBM DeskStars better known for data storage and real work horses. I would always opt for a hard drive with a 8 MB cache instead of a 2 MB cache. It is also important to select a drive that matches your motherboards ATA specification as previously suggested. Without looking at the model etc I would look for any major manufacturer hard drive with these minimal specs: ATA-133, 7200 RPM, 8 MB cache if possible. Even if the motherboard does not support the ATA spec (mine is ATA-33 in the above configuration) you would still be prepared for the future if you find it necessary to change the motherboard. Hope this helps. edit. the 3 year warranty is also desireable.

  10. An interesting read, but an old one, July 2001. Kind of long. Maybe a text attachment next time or just a brief synopsis and a link to the article. I believe the same article was posted on MSFN a long time ago, but can't be sure. You may want to use our search feature when the articles are this old.

  14. Pays better than minimal wage? How long does services last? One or two hours maybe? So, give blood once or twice a week (How much do you get for that?), go to church twice a week ($15), and add it all up. What, $25-30 a week? Okay, do this for a year, will it buy me a new Vid Card or something
  15. Don't know. Used the trial on XP Pro and found it will not make copies of copy-protected discs.
