  1. You lie... You are not on a 100/100Mb connection.
  2. What is up with these forums. It takes a good 30 seconds for pages to load and I am on a 100/100Mb connection.
  3. W2k, XP adn W2k3 are all very different OS's. W2k3 is a server OS for starters. It is not meant for and should not be used for a workstation OS. Xp is similar to W2k Pro but it does have many differences. They are all stable OS's and should not have to be reinstalled as often as you say you have to. If you are having to re-install that often then it is due to either the apps and or tweaks you are loading or hardware.
  4. Windows-hints.net is a site that is dedicated to the MS Windows family of OS's as well as the apps that run on windows. We are a community that is just beginnign and would love new members to help us grow. Please stop by and check us out. MSFN Admins.... If you would be interested in affiliation please PM me. Thanks penguin
  5. If you are copying to a computer on the local network there will be no slowdown. At this point you are connected thru the switch that is built into the router. Your speeds will remain at 100Mb full duplex. Your transfer rates will only slow when you are making multiple transfers.
  6. to see exactly what is hogging your memory open up a command prompt and type "tasklist" . This will list each process that is running and how memory it is using. You should also think about increasing your memory. 256 is way too low to run XP and enjoy your experience. Even more so if you are going to be running 30 apps at a time. Memory is cheap. Double it to 512 and you will notice great improvement.
  7. The regedit i posted a few posts back will enable load balancing on any NT based OS.
  8. The final version has been posted for download.
  9. If you are using a router then you do not have to have both PC's on. The router will be providing the access point instead of the other PC.
  10. If you are just running it as a desktop OS there is no advantage in running W2k3 instead of XP. The default install is a bit faster running than XP but once you tweak and install everything you need to make it function as a desktop OS then the speeds are about the same.
  11. Unless you are using some older hardware this would not do anything for you anyway. If your NIC and your switch support full duplex then you can transfer and recieve at the same time while getting full bandwidth. If you are just wanting to be able to increase your total bandwidth by installing multiple NICS you can always Load Balance them so that they split up the work. System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetBT\Parameters] Value Name: RandomAdapter Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value) Value Data: (0 = disabled, 1 = enabled)
  12. LH is still over a year away. The current releases don't have anywhere near all the features implemented that the final product will. By the time everything is implemeted much of the hardware that the current pre-alpha can run on will not be enough.
