    Welcome to MSFN
  5. DVD Echo did an excellent job, however it is no longer sold. Have you tried the new TMPGEnc v2.520.54.163 ? ... TMPGEnc Plus also comes with useful inbuilt MPEG editing tools. Multiplex & De-Multiplex tools to combine or separate MPEG files into audio & video component streams. Facilities to combine multiple streams simultaneously. Merge & Cut enables you to easily divide one MPEG file into multiple files or merge separate files into one new file. http://www.puresoft.co.uk/tsunami/
  6. Virtual Dub Guide starts here: http://www.doom9.org Virtual Dub procedures starts here: http://www.doom9.org/virtualdub_procedures.htm Direct stream copy is explained in the procedures.
  7. Computer parts to a small degree. Cheap Software. Yesterday, I decided to get one of those CD Cases that holds 256 CDs because I ran out of storage space. My wife collects coins and stamps, but I contribute from my travels.

  9. I understand where you are coming from and agree with you to a point. Some of the updates did more harm than good, but they are few and far between. We sort of have to look at Microsoft's core update theology. They provide the updates/patches with one caveat. That is the target PC is loaded with Microsoft software excluding 3rd party software. Software that has modified the registry settings or changed the role of the operating system is usually at the root of the reason why a PC does not accept the update. Than again some of the updates were just miserable failures regardless of 3rd party software. I ran WinXP on one of my home PCs never connected to the internet without any updates till this year. Very few applications from other developers are installed on the machine. It runs flawlessly. Another machine ran WinXP without any updates till SP1. It has a mired selection of software from other developers and a slew of beta programs on it. Never a BSOD on either machine. Matter of fact I have not experienced a BSOD on WinXP but once and it was of my own design. I pushed it too far on purpose to see how much it could take. Safe? Yes and no. I wait till an update has been in the wild for at least a month before I apply it and only after I am confident that it is safe. Thats just me. The recent patches that M$ released that fix the problem with hackers exploiting a PC are probably necessary for all of us. Are they really? My PCs that have my financial data, credit card numbers, etc. are not connected to the internet. The only thing a hacker could make use of on my PCs connected to the internet are DDOS and the like. Unless of course they consider a few family photos something of interest. Safe computing in this day and age is easy to exercise.
  10. What did you get? Happy Birthday GH.
  11. So what did you decide on Drew?
  12. What Conan said. InCD works well on some people's PCs and seems to not work at all on some people's PCs. Un-install Nero and reinstall without InCD. You really only need it for packet writing. Be sure to remove the Ahead directory in program files before re-installing Nero. Some people have found it necessary to remove all instances of Nero in the registry. If your PC has one hard drive, one CD-ROM, and one CD R/W you don't need InCD. Just make sure the two CD Drives are on separate IDE channels, and the CD Writer is the last drive letter in the chain. Burn everything with Disk at Once (DAO) if possible. Also, disable XPs burning engine and un-install any Roxio CD Recording software. The newer versions of Roxio CD Creator and Nero 5.5.x do seem to co-exist together, so un-installing Roxio may not be necessary. I find Nero does it all when it is the only CD Recorder software on the PC. But thats just me.
  13. It is the sound a doctor makes when he discovers a alien inside someones arm Vicky, Like your sig. First time I have seen that done
  14. Yea, read up on this years ago and I believe there is something to it. When I was 10 yrs old my Dad sent me to a shrink becuz I had a bad habit of blocking out the world around me. Seriously. The shrinks used the ink blots on me, the wood blocks, wired me up and monitored my brain waves awake and asleep, all kinds of stuff. They deduced I was a MSFN Junkie.
  15. My wife. All they have to do is take one look at her and they will know they have found the missing link, er mammoth.

Yea, saw it many years ago if it is the original one. Good movie. Wharf rats can get that big. When I was working my way thru school in a Mexican restaurant as a cook our garbage cans attracted a lot of wharf rats. After work we would sit on the back loading ramp and take shots at them with pellet rifles. Mean lil bastiages they were and huge. They would run straight at us, get pinged a few times, shake it off, and run back to the cans. All this becuz the girls in my home-town were uglier than the wharf rats and didn't hang around the garbage cans to often
  18. I lean toward the LG for games. Here is a copy of a past post of mine, http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=10118 LG is definitely my personal LCD of choice. I own the 15 inch LG Flattron LCD 568LM. It is a gamers monitor. Games look great, but text pages sux. I do not use the DVI, but plan to get one later this year. The above link is for the bigger monitor, but has some interesting comparisons. The reviewers were very surprised to say the least. So was I. Some people do not know it but a 15 inch LCD is the same screen size as a 17 inch CRT. The 17 inch LCD screen size is the same as 19 inch CRT. Just something to know when buying a LCD.
  19. Did a search for a review and ... MultiSync LCD1760NX Review: http://www.gen-x-pc.com/lcd_monitors_revie...and_compare.htm There's one thing we really like about the NEC MultiSync LCD1760NX: You can swivel its screen from side to side, while most only tilt forward and back. Otherwise, this 17-inch LCD fails to impress. Without intuitive controls and sufficient documentation, it's difficult to use. And though it performs well when displaying standard office apps, exhibiting excellent brightness and contrast ratios, it performed poorly on DisplayMate tests. The button that launches the LCD1760NX's on-screen controls is labeled Exit. And that just begins to describe our difficulties. We needed several minutes to adjust the phase settings, and the installer CD fails to walk you through installing the driver, which you'll have dig up from the Web. The real issues involved performance. We noted a color shift in DisplayMate—the same problem we saw with the 17-inch ViewSonic VG171. The NEC unit also had trouble displaying subtle shades and couldn't keep its pixels still during tests; we ended up fixing this problem by manually adjusting the monitor. At $550, the LCD1760NX isn't all that expensive, but you're better off with one of the other 17-inch models in this price range.
