  1. I am forever grateful to you C-Girl for not spoiling the surprise. The reason you started the thread might be because you are a nice person who wished to share in the excitement of a book you found interesting with our mutual friends. Cheers
  2. zivan56, 18kbs, I am in Germany ADSL
  3. Free vs. Pay depends on how much security your client needs. If the PC is to be connected to the internet and intrusions are expected then tell the client to spend the money to protect the system. He will be grateful in the end that you advised him to do the right thing. On the other hand, if his system is exploited and his system and/or data is corrupted and/or stolen he will chastise you for not advising him to spend the few bucks for a software or hardware firewall. Would the client recommend you to prospective clients in the later?
  4. You go C-Girl. What classes are you enrolled in? Want us to hack the exams for you
  5. Yep, water is fine Welcome to MSFN
  6. LOL. I took it as a meaning something entirely different. Normally, a emotion icon such as the one you used (it means puke) is intended to describe the subject of the post, i.e. What a Cool new site for me to explore, Hi LOL, get the idea.
  7. Did a Google search "free firewall" and this came up, http://www.free-firewall.org/ Scrolled down to the bottom of the page and found this link "free firwall list" that leads to this, http://www.homenethelp.com/web/howto/free-firewall.asp Seems most of them have 30 day trials.
  8. Here is a link to some of the firewalls we tested a few days ago. Should give you a good idea of what works. http://www.MSFN.org/board/index.php?act=ST&f=21&t=6713 The firewall included in XP is good, but since you are using W2K I would suggest Zone Alarm.
  9. LOL@AaronXP. Reminds me of my wedding night with my first wife

    CD-RW Problem

No its not safe unless you make a backup first. MSFN Guide "Backup your Registry". Once you have a Registry Backup you can always return to the registries previous settings. This is a very easy registry modification, so it would be a good base for learning more about the Windows Registry.
  11. Nice to see candytron again. I remember it was done in part with lightwave and some of the music loops.

    CD-RW Problem

From AXCEL216's Site. If one of these two fits your situation visit the web site for the fix. http://members.aol.com/axcel216/xp2.htm#GBYC GET BACK YOUR CD/DVD This is a two part BUG fix. 1. BUG: Users of CD/DVD (re)writing software (Roxio/Adaptec Easy CD Creator + DirectCD, Ahead Nero Burning ROM etc) may bump into error messages such as "No ASPI devices installed" while using any of these utilities. This is due to a flaw into the Adaptec ASPI Layer settings. ASPI stands for Advanced SCSI Programming Interface, but this applies to ALL (E)IDE/ATAPI/SCSI CD-R(W)/DVD-R(W)/DVD-RAM drive owners. 2. BUG: After installing/uninstalling Roxio (Adaptec) Easy CD Creator v5.0x, v4.0x or older and/or DirectCD v3.0x on/from your Windows NT4/2000/XP system, your CD-ROM/CD-R(W)/DVD-ROM/DVD-R(W)/DVD-RAM drives may get suddenly lost. The CD/DVD drive icon(s) may disappear from My Computer, Windows Explorer and any other disk/file browsing app. Also, if you try to view/open/run any CD/DVD based folder/file, you may encounter several popup messages linked to one of these error Codes: 19, 31, 32, 39 and/or 41. Hope this helps. If not let us know
