  1. RunAs Professional http://www.mast-computer.com/c_9-l_en.html This may be handy for limiting access to applications that can be ran on a XP machine with admin rights. An example might be Microsoft Money. Once in a while you might allow your spouse or children to use your XP machine with admin rights, but you do not want them to open and use MS Money. Configure RunAs to use a password to open Microsoft Money. Short description: For Windows 2000, Windows XP RunAs Professional is a substitute for Microsoft's command runas. RunAs Professional solves the problem that normal runas does not support the commandline parameter password. Now you can use RunAs Professional to install software, use it in batch skripts and much more. If you use RunAs Professional you can start an application with other credentials without log off and log on. Visit RunAs Web Site: http://www.mast-computer.com/c_9-l_en.html

  13. Do you have an Anti-Virus program such as Norton or McAafee? Check the settings as they will scan the floppy drive on start-up and shut-down. Also, are your Windows Updates up-to-date? There is a Windows XP Update that fixes this problem.
  14. If it still does it after checking the BIOS Boot Sequence open Windows Exploer, insert a floppy diskette, open it, give it a few seconds for the light to go off, eject it. Still in Windows Explorer switch to drive c. Close Windows Exploer and reboot the machine. Come back here if that does not fix it.

  18. Yes it would cause problems because the files in the sys32 would not link to the files on the destination PC. It has been done by many tinkers all over the world, so not a bad question. Keep tinkering or we will never learn, huh
  19. We understand how you feel because most of us here are a lot alike in many ways. The majority of the people's intelligence levels here are on a different and maybe higher level compared to a lot of people. We digest and understand information that some people cannot even begin to understand. Some people just do not have the gift to make it happen. Much of our skills and learned knowledge come from years of hard work. That knowledge in itself is too valuable to put a price on. However, it needs an outlet. We need to discuss it all with others like us. There are many forms of people here that fit that category because this is an open forum. We run into all types of people here and it will always be that way. Some will rise to higher levels and some will reach a level where they become incompetent. The later, is a scary conception of ones self. That sometimes makes people act as if they are above the others. We must learn to deal with people like that in our own ways. Hopefully, those people will learn to center their thoughts and find a way to focus. Otherwise, they will continue to use a shotgun approach to problem solving. Some things they will solve and the majority of other things will never be solved. Learn to rub elbows with all walks of life. Take a chance and learn from other peoples misgivings. In the end your results will be of more value to you then the rest of us. It is called personal gratification. Rise to a new level.
  20. It is "not" that M$ writes programs to be compatible with 2nd and 3rd party software. It "is" that the rest of the Windows World writes their products to be compatible with M$. That is at least the case with the majority of products. Alas, there have been many cases when M$ collaborated with IBM, Symantec, and a few others to insure compatibility on both sides. This past year M$ has made their BETA programs bigger and opened it to a wider population. In a few M$ articles posted here at MSFN and at winbeta we have seen M$ thank those beta testers and admit they now have a more stable M$ Office Suite to include M$ Server software. It is all about input from the Microsoft users that really makes it more stable and user friendly. I have never known Bill to totally ignore the world in that regard. He has simply had the time and resources to dedicate to us as a whole this past year. Oh well, we are getting better. Yes

Yep. The search function is a nice improvement, but still needs some work. When XP first touched my knobby fingers I spent hours using the search feature. Made a lot of notes back at the time. Still, it is a nice, but often overlooked highlight of XP.
