I, also, do not remember having to fear of sudden BSODs... but I did develop a habit of saving constantly. So there must have been something else that generated that behaviour.

I haven't seen this problem, at least here. How many hours is it off by? I have had this problem on other sites before, but I just change to whatever time zone makes the board time match my PC time.

I always wondered about the photos people can take where you can see the milky way. On some nights I can see a "blur" in the night sky that I suspect is the galaxy edge. I can see stars fairly well in the city. I used to hang around at an observatory, but it was at a time before I knew viewing the galaxy was possible.

It is possible that something is incorrect within the construction of the system, or that the power supply isn't 100% ok. I don't want to use a power-outlet comment as I don't know what country you are in. But in the US, just because we have outlets with a ground plug doesn't necessarily mean that the plug is grounded. But I don't think that is a problem. I did a fair amount of unplugging and replugging things in yesterday (relocated equipment to another room) and I also can often see a little spark or hear a sound when plugging things in. This is because the outlet is active and it is a natural phenomena that the electricity will jump that gap on insertion. HOWEVER, I do not get zapped. That is the real concern, not that you can see a little spark or hear a sound. I wouldn't recommend a towel, cloth or paper. You would want to use anything rubber, even one of those rubber things you use to help you open jars. But that is just a work-around. What is the environment like where your systems are? Do they sit on carpet?

Well certainly someone here knows about Macs because I certainly don't!

Here is our batch/scripting section: http://www.msfn.org/board/forum/66-programming-c-delphi-vbvbs-cmdbatch-etc/ This one is for installation packages and finding silent install methods: http://www.msfn.org/board/forum/80-application-installs/

Well that certainly isn't good. Does it do this connected to any outlet? Do other power cords connected to those outlets do the same thing?

I've heard that CFLs have had greater lifespan if left on 24/7 and that their "early failure" is due to turning them on and off. I heard about it on the radio, and I haven't researched it myself. I can say that the one I have installed in my back hallway has been on 24/7 (barring power outages) for the past 5 years or so. But the other ones that are in the switchable lamps have been replaced more than once during that time.

There is the potential of electrical damage with any of these plugs, primarily the power. It DOES happen but is usually a rare occurence. The only real problem you'd likely run into is those one or some times of not inserting or removing a plug at the proper angle.

Well that link wasn't cited, as Tow users should have marked. I don't think I've used eSATA before, except for accidently plugging a USB mouse into it.... And I'm skeptic of that 50 connections thing with a standard SATA port. I've surpassed that on many boards, cables and hard disks. The only casualties have been some HDDs where the plastic around the connector breaks, meaning the locking clamp has nothing to grab on to. When hardware designers do these tests, they probably aren't using people. So I'd guess that it was on average 50 connections before the robot tester would break the connectors. Anyways, I think these values relate to physical tolerances of the plastic or metal.

Well a stock PE might not be able to do it. Have you tried using a Make_PE3 or one of ChrisR's projects?

If your Explorer.exe is crashing (see errors in Event Viewer) you can create a memory dump for it: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/130005-creating-memory-dumps/ For the USB plugin, I have not seen a format option to immediately appear... only the "scan to fix" which I just got used to closing. And this "hook" menu, I'm not sure what that is. If you can provide a screenshot, it may help.

I'm thinking that a more advanced linking/junctions would be needed. I haven't tried it but Windows already has links to objects with large paths. If your application requires a specific working directory, you may have to consider that too. Otherwise, see if you can relocate or reinstall the program in a custom location. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-symlinks-in-windows-vista/

It took PCs some years to get over having proprietary parts and now just about everything is interchangeable. Phones, Notebooks and Tablets should eventually end up in the same boat, but will likely (like their PC counterparts) cause some large names to fall from the top.

LEDs taking over for regular bulbs is a great thing coming, but it doesn't replace all of them. For example, some pinball games do not look good with LEDs and the old style bulbs are getting (from what I heard) harder to get.

Well, to be fair, no. I saw my post AND its attachment, and linked to it in the other thread. Then all of a sudden it disappeared ... and reappeared later at a different address. If you don't believe me look links in the other thread May be the upload went wrong (not my fault ) and LATER the board software cleaned up duplicated posts Your duplicate post (the one with the attachment) still exists. That was how I was able to find the link to post to where your attachment resides. It could still be possible that this thread could be merged into that other post, but it was unknown to me (at least) that when the duplicate topic issue happens, what would happen if an attachment were specified. Anyways, the reason why that particular duplicate topic was deleted (unknowing of its contents) was that *this* topic had replies and the other did not.

You mention that you have tested on both Windows 7 and Windows 8... does it also crash on the Windows 8 client? How did you install this version of MSTSC on the Windows 7 PC? Was it from this? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2592687

Well it "was" Does this work? http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&attach_id=38469

Well, the crash dump (and the op) indicates the OS is Windows 7 SP1, but the binary for mstsc.exe identified is from Windows 8.0. You might be able to get better help if you are able to make the actual .dmp file available for analyzation.

Any Way Of Disabling Bluetooth Passkey Requirement?
Tripredacus replied to Ex_Brit's topic in Windows 8
I don't use dual boot myself, but I am thinking about how Windows 8.1 could even be aware of another OS. The only normal thing that could make sense is if your multi-boot is controlled by the BCD, and Windows stores BT data in the Boot files. THIS IS A GUESS, I have no idea how that works and I never have used BT input devices before. I can't even test HID-pair with BT and Win 8.1 because I do not have any BT input devices. Are you using BCD to handle your multiboot or one of those other solutions?
